And it's too late to fix what we've done here. 80 percent of the fish in the ocean are dead or dying coral reefs are becoming extinct the population is now at 9 billion people and our food and water are filled with harmful micro plastic shards causing all sorts of bad stuff and above all our atmosphere is full of co2 that has begun the meltdown of our polar ice caps causing more sever storms flooding on the coasts. If there's a way to get back to Earth from Mars, I think going to Mars would be a fantastic opportunity. Imagine camping at a place like Joshua Tree but on another fricken planet, with stars at night that would outshine the view from anywhere on earth. Seeing the valleys and canyons old rivers made just like seeing the Grand Canyon. Flying over the ice caps of Mar's poles the nearest water source closest to our planet. Seeing mount Olympus the biggest volcano/mountain in the solar system. Excavating the planet to see if their were signs of past life, drilling deeper than any rover can do right now. And just the sheer excitement of stepping foot on another planet, another world.. is enough for me. But as long as I have a trip back to Earth T_T

What I don't understand about living on Mars is pretty simple. There is no food and no water there. Is it really feasible to transport food Oxygen, and water to Mars, and then export human waste and trash somewhere else? To me it sounds like an absolute money pit of an idea. If we colonized Mars, what would be the overwhelming positive aspect that would outweigh all of the negatives?

Mars has no magnetic field to shield it from solar flares and asteroids like earth does. It’s thin atmosphere consists of high amounts of CO2 requiring special suits and portable oxygen tanks at all times. This is just the top of the iceberg on why it’s improbable. It’s possible, but there are too many negatives that outweigh a positive.

Musk is a very determined person who possesses a high level of intelligence, which he deploys, well. That being said, many of his ideas, while admirable, might not be possible! It is a ‘theory’, whether the atmosphere can be manipulated to our needs. His rockets are progressing but still struggling to land, properly. If you cannot make your rockets land safely, here on Earth where it’s convenient to tweak and work out any kinks, how can you hope to properly land or take off from Mars, where we are so far away from and lack the resources we have here in Earth? Alaska properly mobilize to even assess the problem. I just look at our efforts here in Earth and see our struggles. There’s so much we don’t even really know about the Earth, to this day although we know enough how to survive. Or I should say, we’re fortunate to have been ‘gifted’ what we need, here, to survive! Now, on Mars, even if we get supplies, people and something going. What if something happens there? I am by no means criticizing Musk or his efforts. I am quite fascinated and interested in all of this and really feel him and his team are onto something. I just believe the efforts and timelines involved will be much more than they anticipate!

While our Solar System belongs to the human race, why are we spending so much money and resources to colonize Mars when we have the ability to rejuvenate Earth? Travelling & exploring our Solar system is different than trying to colonize another surrounding planet. "You cannot go out in the universe to claim what you have destroyed here on Earth, for those resources are owned by others. Any in most cases they are more powerful than you. Besides, you will need to establish a greater wealth and stability ever to be able to leave this planet and to explore your surrounding environments." ~ A quote from the New Message ~ Preventing Collapse & the Wars of Desperation. It is not so easy to get to Mars as it is only possible every two years. This was said by a spokesman, a German professor, who commented on the Mars landing of the last US-rover called "Perseverance" a few days ago. That's much easier said than done. One corporation cannot control how the world's governments handle the threat of climate change, but it can help to provide the space exploration technology necessary to provide a backup in case governments continue to fail at acting. Elon Musk already is devoting a lot of money and effort into clean energy to try and save the planet. It's just that he can't prevent other people from killing the planet, so having a backup is incredibly smart.

No such thing as god, brother. Blind faith won’t get you anywhere, only science and hard working people who continue to invent, innovate, inspire and push the boundaries of what is thought to be ‘impossible’ will propel humanity and civilisation forward. Not only to other planets but more notably here on earth. I only wish religion hadn’t brainwashed so many minds, 1.8 billion muslims in the world and most are too deluded to believe in science and engineering. In the past they did but now it’s sadly a resounding no and a massive set back for humanity as a whole. Imagine all the things humanity could do if they just let go of the primitive belief in a ‘god’. The truth is, religion is the weight weighing down the rest of humanity and the sooner this false need for a god is eradicated the sooner we can achieve greater things that will benefit the whole of humanity, but peoples fear of death and their inability to accept it without hoping for something else after will hold us back. The fact is we all die, just accept it and move on, no need to bring fairy tales into it with a bearded white man floating on a cloud of water vapour at it’s centre.

If we have people on Mars then humans won’t go extinct and would even be able to start back up life on earth. Like it or not in the next 100 to 200 years something bad is going to happen. If you claim love to live a comfy life here on earth where all wil remain the same, i'm suspecting you might not get what love is about. Hate is what's easy my friend, hate is what drives people to stay indoors belving themself safe and in fear of taking risk. Love is all about taking risk. The hate of change, the hate of doing work, the hate of taking responsibility, or doing whats need to be done. the hate of all the others whos always the ones to blame for all the worlds problems. So no, its giving up hate for a chance of Love, a love for a brighter future for os all, the kind of love that allows for hope.

Flowers, butterflies.pets, wild animals. Why? Why to lie oursels and our childreen for these gifts from our God.? This is the most important time of all the times, that the humans are confront. The humans are intelegent creature of because God created them with live integrity and dignity. Why not to thank God when we eat ? Why not to ask him for the things you did not anderstand from his word,. the Bible? The idea that conditions on Earth could become so bad that going to Mars would be a better option is very fanciful. Mars may look fairly pleasant in the pictures from the surface but if traveller from Earth stepped outside their expensively constructed habitat they would encounter only cold airless death. It would be incredibly difficult and expensive to build a fully self sustaining community on Mars. The International Space Station cost over $100 billion and takes several billion a year to support. It can only house a handful of people at a time and relies on Earth for food and oxygen. In this century we could imagine a research base on Mars. But a thriving colony of hundreds of thousands of people who are largely self sufficient and also managing to find something to export back to Earth to pay back the insane cost of putting them there would surely be the job of centuries if it could happen at all.

It's about eventually being able to go further into to space, you build a colony on mars and you're further away, eventually you can travel further down and have stations on moons, and hopefully someday humans can even travel beyond the solar system

@@stevens1-o7s But if the goal is to travel to other stars, then nothing is gained by having a colony on Mars.... You COULD maybe argue that a Moon-base will make it easier to build certain structures in space, but Mars is too far away and too complicated to be of any use in a future 'star mission'. Also, it seems much more likely that 'living in space', i.e. outside Earth's atmosphere, would be best done in O'Neill Cylinders or other spinning and shielded habitats, rather than on the surface of planets that will shorten the lifespan of most people by 25-50% or so. But hanging over the whole space exploration adventure are TWO big questions: 1. We CANNOT travel FTL - so how do we see our stellar future? 2. What reason would a million, or a billion, people have to leave Earth, rather than to fix and protect Earth, limit population and get a dream planet?? If we can't fix Earth, then we will just export the SAME problems wherever we go.

No, if you can’t naturally survive in a space then it is not for you. Damn.

It would be better to spend the time and money fixing the problems we already have on Earth, than doing this.

I have a plan to colonize a planet around Alpha Centauri by 2075. That's about as realistic as his. We willl be lucky if we have a colony on Mars in a hundred years.

To be honest I prefer to be on earth and lay down on the beach, going to live on Mars its full of desert and wearing astronaut suit doesn't look comfortable to me. 😏
