I think Dagogo presented the update well in this video, though, I would’ve preferred a title more like “advances and struggles” vs the one primarily focused on the struggles. To add to the complimentary point that was implied, not only does this resemble the iPhone conjuring, but ALL of Elon’s companies were birthed this way including the same type of employee exodus with top minds who materially contributed but took lickings; it wasn’t just those who were hanging on the fringes and couldn’t perform any longer. I think they did well to focus on ethics team much the same way they focus on tesla during that companies announcements so that it doesn’t seem like they are inconsiderate while performing this experimentation! Thanks for another great video Mr. Altraide. So a limited supply of merch and then no more, did I understand that correctly?

I think we are on the downward slope of this road at the moment...and, we have AI around the corner with potential for MASSIVE abuse. Sadly, humans are inherently selfish, which causes corruption and evil...so anything good like the internet in its early days eventually gets monetized, completely regulated and controlled for corporate interests, brings out the worst in people, and finally is used to control the masses via control of information and censorship. Imagine when that happens with all the great little AI frameworks and uses we are working with right now. Between what's going on in tech, bioengineering, nanotech, etc., we will probably cause an extinction level event, but maybe we will get lucky and those in power will only exterminate 99% of humanity either on purpose or accidentally. Those superintelligent AI will need to keep SOME of us around as slaves in case there is a coronal mass ejection to fix them :)

@@Dr.FeelsGood Coronal mass ejections will only damage unprotected (lead) electronics or/and powered electronics. Even if there was no way to defend against them, it would be smarter for the AI to engineer biological slaves only intended for that purpose. That or simply spread to all of the solar system and/or beyond. Sorry to inform you, but in the scenario of a truly sentient self-improving AI being developed, the best outcome for us is that it will leave us immidiatly, dismissing us like we dismiss bacteria that made us. Only in it's case, we would never ever be components of the AI, like bacteria is of humans. AI would see us like a natural stepping stone in it's evolution, the final stage of intellingence. If humanity will ever achive greatness in this galaxy, AI is certain to become the ruler of the entire universe, and maybe more. It will know most if not all that there is to know, and will be able to do almost everything.

@@averagecoloniser4586 I would say we already have that and it's called capitalism (neoliberalism in particular is pretty much divine right of machines/entrepreneurs kool-aid) so it's already pretty well embedded and honestly I think you can see it in a _lot_ of the comments in this video talking about this eagerness to sacrifice themselves to the machine future for it is the "next evolution of society". It's pretty interesting how it seems to be masked ideologically through pretensions of "efficiency" and "rationality" without real consideration of what these embraced values are actually serving/maximizing, or maybe more obviously what they are _not_ serving/maximizing. This was kind of Nietzsche's point about the "death of God", not so much an explicit declaration but rather a consideration of how human "rationality" unconsciously functions; through a focal point of possibility and morality commonly represented as "god" and that we have merely killed that particular more obvious aesthetic version attributed to dogmatic organized religious symbology. Adorno and Horkheimer I think make this point well in The Dialectic of Enlightenment if my explanation is bad here, but there's plenty of other philosophers like Max Weber or even like Slavoj Zizek that similarly make this point. "Fun" fact: Marx wrote a lot about this also, including what I would consider to be descriptive of computers/machine learning, though in the abstract (obviously lol) as a hypothetical peak culmination point of automation technology, as the arc of this technology is defined by processes to more efficiently replace the worker so as to maximize profit/surplus value and the logical conclusion of such an ends is to replace even the labor of thought itself. Honestly kinda blew my mind reading it (in the grundrisse somewhere, I'll attempt to find it if anyone cares) since this was like 200 years ago or whatever and the elaborated logic is pretty cool in things like extrapolating the physical design of machines themselves to a specialized labor knowledge formerly uniquely held by professionals within a given trade and now accessible in process merely by acquisition of such machinery which democratizes a lot of specialized knowledge without much of a conscious awareness of this even happening. If that makes sense. There's also a more direct prediction to exactly your point regarding what he calls the "totality" of the machine that we risk becoming placant cogs of if left unchallenged, but I thought the computer thing was particularly interesting as it was more tangible in its prediction. Huge tangent sorry, am bored as hell lol.

I know your comment is two years old. Like any other information controlling tech, it is the same, but on a more personal scale. Originally all you could do was flyers, then you got the printing press, meaning you could make personalized papers for counties/cities/boroughs with relative ease. Now we can do personalized advertisement, banning and blocking certain information from certain sections of the population (instead of everyone), and far more. Frankly, I don't think this tech will be much more terrifying or hideous than what we already do. It wont be able to rewrite a brain, so, can't "control" you.

Elon got the idea for this company from a sci-fi book series called "The Culture" by Iain M. Banks. This series describes a "Neural Lace", which is basically the ultimate product that Neuralink aims to achieve. An initial filament is placed in the brain, from which a very fine lace grows throughout the brain until it can perform information exchange with every single neuron. This gives complete knowledge of how the brain is functioning and complete control over which neurons fire. It can lift the user up to heaven, down to hell and provide an endless number of experiences in between.

in the end, the truth is that most scientists are too busy trying to understand the human brain and understand the tools they already have, liver transplants, other organ transplants are starting to be routine, but when it comes to neurosurgery it always comes with a major chance of you dying because of the big unknown. Yes this is moving too fast but we do need this, not only to study the animal and human brain but also find a way to do heart bypass and manipulate based in the persons desires and have separate processors, there are many risks... this is probably going to be the most risky because it's in an area that's considered quarantined to the rest of the body and we don't know what damage the probes will do against organic tissue and if it can be reversed safely. Unfortunately I predict many lives will be lost for this technology to advance and come into full fruition in the next lifetimes but even you as a doctor can agree, it's heartbreakingly necessary in order to advance this at a pace that will keep peoples attention and for it to be useful for your sciences, neuroscience still has more questions than answers. I do look forward to your inputs with this subject, I want to see Indagogo do more professional interviews with people that would be using this technology when it does come out

It depends on what kind of problem there is which is causing the deafness. You said it in the video. Devices like this aiming to do similar things have been around since the 2000s and yet here we are entering the third decade of the century and none of those companies or their projects have changed the world or pushed what we think it's possible to do. That's because they have chosen the slow paced careful and structured way of doing it. On the other hand is NeuraLink created in 2016, apparently following a more chaotic engineer-like approach and their progress is undeniably impressive. When something needs more time to be achieved you can't just push the deadline, you can only work harder to meet that deadline even if it seems impossible.

I believe that I suggest that we should keep in mind that one corporation entering this field is at best a good first step, the process will still be slow. If we are aiming for a transhumanist/cybernetic technological revolution in a reasonable amount of time (a decade or two) then we need a "moonshot" project with multiple corporations specializing on this field, tackling each issue that arises separately (from material technology to software) as well as a significant public effort with an overarching lofty goal/megaproject like "going to the moon" (in the case of cybernetics the equivalent would be a mostly, or completely bionic body) that would draw in the minds, funding and will to accomplish such a goal. Keep in mind that even if the final goal fails such research cycles produce a lot of useful tech that can and will improve life.

As an engineer, you can almost never build stuffs without breaking stuffs. Also a rat, pig's brain and a human brain isn't quite a same thing. It's a whole different story dropping rockets out of sky, crashing self driving cars on highway. But if they mess this up it could have a far more devastating consequences. Imagine getting your implant hacked and harming someone without your consense.

And it's not like neural link is forcing humans to have implants it is oppurtunity to have a this than none.

I don't think dropping rockets onto an urban area or crashing a car at full speed into another one has less devastating consequences compared to getting an implant hacked. On the contrary - the implant owner opted-in to having the implant (and risk). Someone sitting in their garden getting smashed by a rocket did not accept that risk..

Pretty much, working at those companies is really stressful, I always expected Neuralink to be even more so. You are expected to push forward with 110% effort. Musk’s companies have many open positions but they are very hard and stressful jobs. That’s how Neuralink has made all this grand progress in a short amount of time. Musk isn’t lazy and he doesn’t want his engineers and scientists to slack around either.

Yet, it is not 100% analogous, since the former are purely engineering-based research and developments; with neuralink there is biology and the wellbeing of living organisms involved. So the approach requires a different kind of cultural configuration.

yankees gohome Except it’s built upon current technology like the Utah array or Deep Brain Stimulation, just much more advanced, those older iterations already allow humans to interface with computers and machines with just their mind alone. Proof of principle is already there and Chimps have been able to control computer mice with their thoughts alone with the Neuralink. What Musk’s company has done is leaps and bounds ahead of what we had before. And yes, Hyperloop didn’t pan out as expected, what does that have to do with Neuralink working or not?

Best bet would be for amputee's/artificial limbs on how you can connect nerves and electrical impulses. Brain interfacing would be interesting yet a lot of people may not except it because of being directly linked to the brain yet more time needs to go by to assure of some things. Used as an interface with contact lenses' is best bet for 3D digital overlay yet I'd figure an over head visor/sunglass's would be more acceptable for the head area. voice command and or eye blink eye focus on a menu around the outer vision of perimeter would makes things easier as if point and click to open up what let alone voice commands. I still think have movement slightly automated as an assist for when your brain impulses trigger certain actions, thing is enough pressure to hold or grip what you'd like let alone distance sensor's. To be able to connect with the voice in your head that manifests what your thinking to be able to access commands to interface with the device is a much different matter for memory read let alone other issues that may arise.
