One of the things learned yesterday was GARM had an “exclusion list” of platforms that members of GARM were not to advertise with (Joe Rogan Spotify for instance) If a membering corporation of GARM were to advertise on Joe Rogan’s show for instance, GARM would threaten to keep that company from making money whether the company wanted to advertise with Joe Rogan or not. That essentially punishes Joe Rogan, Spotify, and any corporation that advertises with them. That is deeply Authoritarian in nature and violates antitrust laws. It’s a very distorted view of capitalism with a bad entity like GARM influencing other corporations to follow.

The only way I can see such a thing is if coercion into joining a boycott can be proven. It seems more like Elon is trying through the system to coerce companies into advertising with X because he feels entitled to their business. It seems in the spirit of forcing ideological compliance from companies, minus the degree of actual political power to fully make it happen, such as a certain party in Germany back in the day (one that actually - also - actually did employ a coercive boycott) had for a number of years. So for now, the ploy is desperate. Let’s be sure it stays that way.

It feeds a generation and country of depressed young men and women non-genuine conversations with bots and extremists often offering zero nuance and forcing them into internet media isolation, stumping their social, intellectual, and political development. X is not a global town square, it’s a place where rich and famous people go to enjoy being idolized and having their voices heard.
