Well said. It’s also ridiculous to force compliance when the US lacks the infrastructure for widespread EV adoption. I have an EV and when my state attempted to reduce ICE vehicle sales by 80% when we only have 30 fast chargers in the whole state I knew it was a a mistake.

I watch lots of Trump’s rallies. I think recently he shifted his position on EV a little bit. Trump values “greatness” and he regards Elon as a figure of greatness. If you are Elon you can easily convince Trump because you already have the respect and trust from Trump. Meanwhile Trump will never sacrifice 20% of the economy to push some radical policies on EV.

Trump never said he did not like EV's. He has always been about supporting the choices of consumers. He is against the poiiticalization of them, and the mandate aspect, taking away freedom of choice and competition. And he gets it. No matter what we need a steady supply of oil and gas, not only for fuel. Look around the room - anything made of plastics or polymers, which is about 50%of a Tesla, or any car these days comes from oil. @@ricinro In Ontario large pickups ,Jeeps , and SUV's are very popular . EV's may be good for large cities but for the average family , we like our BIG vehicles . The rich will need plenty of gas for their yachts , private planes ect. and lets not forget most of our products are delivered via huge ships from China that burn millions of liters of fuel and we will be able to buy millions of EV's made in China . I don't believe that carbon dioxide is or will be a problem. The real problem will be when the fossil fuels run out. Nuclear electric power will be the best alternative. Electric powered vehicles will be a very important part in the future of transportation. It is a good thing that we get the bugs worked out now. I don't think it is necessary for the government to force anyone to buy them. We have the time to transition slowly to electric vehicles.

Oil will never run out. The process that creates it is deep in the Earth's mantle, not a finite supply of rotting plants. Oil reservoirs that were pumped dry in the 1940s were found to be fully replenished in the 1960s. The petroleum was rising from deep down below the crust. This information is highly suppressed. EVs are just over priced golf carts until there is a massive improvement in infrastructure for charging, battery and repair. 1. A power grid that can support millions of charging locations. 2. Cheaper batteries with longer life and longer range. 3. Repair infrastructure that do not have month's or longer turnaround times.

The automotive new car companies just sent a letter to the President about his insane mandate that every new car that is sold in the United States must be full EV saying that it’s to much to fast! Elon will tell you the truth about the pros and cons of EV vehicles like lack of range on the batteries especially in really cold weather and also more time spent by those who drive a lot on recharging the EV battery compared to filling up their fuel tank with gasoline! The bottom line is everyone should have the freedom to buy whatever they want today or in 2035! And that’s how DJT feels and I’m going to guess that is how Elon feels? The Roadsters is not technologically late. Tesla has a production limitation due to Cybertruck and other money making products. As for Space X progress, is anyone else out there, including governments, able to match their advancement? China was able to land twice on the moon recently but that came about thanks to enormous investment and focus from the CCP so it's hugely different if you were to compare them to Space X which is still a private company.

It has a few benifits , but a lot of drawbacks . Pro's: - Fuel up time - Distance. Cons: - Hydrogen is hard to contain - Extremly explosive in earth atmosphere if a gasses mix during an accident. - Most ways to get hydrogen are from oil particularly cracking, aka braking down a heavier hydrocarbon into a smaller one releases hydrogen. - You can get it from water but it requires a lot of electricity and the process is notoriously inefficient. So basically in that case its storing chemical potential energy similar to a battery. There are other fuels we could fabricate easier if energy wasn't as much of a concern. Methane while still a fossil fuel is cleaner has 4 hydrogen bonds that are broken for energy in combustion produces less carbon dioxide then gasoline which is a mixture of hydrocarbons with 5-10 carbons. Octane for example has 8 carbons and 18 hydrogen bonds. So if we compare Methane has 4 hydrogen bonds per carbon Octane has 2.25 (18/8). Its obviously more complex then this and density matters and all that but generally per gram there is more energy in methane then gas.

With all due respect for Elon, I do recall watching a TV show on the Knowledge Network in the mid-1980's, approx'ly, wherein they showed a Mercedes car running on hydrogen-on-demand. I call it that and don't recall their describing it using that phrasing, but that clearly sums up what they presented. It did require splitting water for its hydrogen, but only enough for its combustion use. This obviates any Hindenberg Effect "fears"/excuses. Then water scarcity could be alleviated by ending deforestation & starting real reforestation, a la how ancient hands planted the primordial seeming Amazon Rainforest, an article by some-such title in Atlantic Monthly from some years ago.

That's nice but there is a reason why hydrogen powered vehicles aren't common. They're grossly inefficient, expensive, PITA to refuel, etc. etc. I would much rather have a gasoline hybrid vehicle than have to deal with alternative fuels. EVs are desirable because they're far easier to refuel than even a gasoline powered car when you realize you don't need a complicated refinery in order to get electricity, just some solar PV panels.

@@peace-c2r you can't run a car on water and to get hydrogen either have to do very energy intensive electrolysis or crack methane. Storing hydrogen requires catalysts and very expensive storage mechanisms that don't last more than 150k miles. There are hydrogen powered cars on the road and they're expensive and they suck.

I’m gonna be honest, I like Trump and I like Elon Musk but I don’t like the Elon keeps pushing this idea that these electric cars are somehow great for the environment and gonna save anything, sorry they’re not lowering missions except directly at the tailpipe. They’re cool. They’re good performance vehicles and they have their place but I just consider it disingenuous that he keeps getting up there and pretending like he’s saving the environment. Sorry, I think we should stop all government subsidies for this type of energy for the electric cars for the wind and solar and people want to use it. That’s awesome. I love the technology. I just don’t think the American taxpayer should be subsidizing it, even Elon Musk said tax on it, but he’ll be happy to take the paycheck because he’s not dumb enough to throw it away when it’s out, but literally billions of dollars off of the back of and he still pushing this narrative that electric cars are going to save the environment, number one exhaust is really only dangerous if you’re breathing it directly it’s not destroying the environment. It’s not causing global warming or climate change and it’s not a threat to anything unless you’re sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic breathing the stuff right as it comes out of the tailpipe, the guy out in the middle of the freeway, driving cross country and a big diesel truck or his suburban aren’t harming the environment. It’s got some advantages has got some disadvantages, Tesla didn’t make it because it was saving the environment, those people buy a Prius, you just mark it for what it is, that is cool electric car, cool, solar equipment, etc. but as soon as he starts talking about saving the world with this technology, he loses me because he becomes a salesman. I like the guy I love what he’s doing at Twitter. I like what he’s doing at Tesla as far as technology but I’m not gonna pretend that Electric cars are saving anything and if I’m president or in Congress, I’m gonna vote to stop subsidies and taxpayer funding of this technology, we’ve already wasted way too much money on it, and Elon needs to sell his cars based on what they are not based on a lie.

What we need to hear from the candidates is their plan to be competitive. I have witnessed people driving those BATTERY-powered cars on the interstate and watched them WAIT to get an available charger, then wait some more to get charged up enough to continue their travels!! I fueled up, ate dinner, took a quick power nap...and THEY were STILL WAITING for their BATTERY to charge!! Or the time that traffic was backed up on the Beltway....with MULTIPLE....BATTERY-powered cars STUCK with NO CHARGE!! Those low on gas got a QUICK gallon to get them down the road to the gas station. The BATTERY-powered ones had to WAIT!! LOL
