Did you remember EC MONITOR and what is the difference between element leader and dorm chief?
@EloraJean6 жыл бұрын
It's not in the video because I forgot that one as well, but the main difference between the element leaders and the dorm chief, is the dorm chief has more responsibility. They are in charge of taking roll, announcing the flight in classrooms, problem-solving when things go wrong when the MTI isn't there, and overall giving out instructions when they need to. Typically the MTI will choose who seems to be the oldest or most mature individual in the flight, as the dorm chief needs to have a good head on their shoulders and a higher patience.

the small pox vaccine can potentially kill anyone. people with eczema may have a higher risk. of your eczema does not affect your day to day life you most likely can get a waiver for it when enlisting. and not everyone gets the smallpox vaccine. only before you will deploy. and even then they do not give people who have eczema the vaccine when deploying.

Do they still got the "house mouse" as a job in BMT? That was my job 23 years ago. Maybe they changed the name.
@davidwise13023 жыл бұрын
I remember the title of "House Mouse" from 1976, but I forget what his duties were -- "Latrine Queen" was self-explanatory as they had to work into the evening to make the latrine inspection-ready (we all had to shave the night before, but as the latrine cleaning progressed we ended up restricted to only one wash basin). I was on the brass-polishing detail in the dorm, my first introduction to Brass-O. We were in the then-new 3-story dorm buildings ( a one-story core containing Admin, messing, and classrooms with wings containing two floors of dorms (2nd and 3rd floors) which also provided cover for open areas under them (cover from the rain). Those were the new alternatives to the WWII barracks that they still had (our BMT study guides included sections for making your WWII barrack inspection-ready). My KP duties revolved mainly around reloading the mechanical cow (ie, the milk dispenser). Plus the KP detail always ate before everybody else. It was only once or twice I had to help out in the scullery -- nasty work. And when we marched, I was a road guard ("Road guards in and road guards out! Road guards running all about! Wish I had a high IQ, I could be a road guard too!"). Do they still issue recruits "Lackland Lasers"? Translucent yellow plastic cones to attach to our flashlights for high visibility for the road guards to stop traffic. My great-nephew enlisted in the Air Force a few years ago, so I looked at a KZbin about BMT. Now they have dummy M-16's to make inspection-ready (don't know if they're like police academies' "Red Guns" (my son is a cop) or if they're real M-16's that have been disabled). Well, that's something new.

The jobs are pretty much randomly given out, except for maybe dorm chief. Usually the MTI will pick whoever seems to be the oldest/most mature. You don't really get trained in all of the jobs, just whatever one you're given. If you're given a job that requires more practice and effort,m such as chow runner or guide-on bearer, you'll get special instructions before being thrown into it.

At what point do you have to choose your career within the Air Force?
@davidwise13023 жыл бұрын
OK, I was active duty Air Force but then affiliated with the Navy Reserve from which I retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Your question just brought my chief out. Sorry, but nobody questions the Chief. Nor the Chief's imparting his wisdom upon you (AKA, "counselling"). The Navy has this traditional career path in which you enlist and serve on ships during which time you become acquainted with the various ratings (ie, skill specialities) by workign with them and seeing what they do. Then at some point you decide to "strike" for one of those ratings, at which point you are referred to as "a striker." The Air Force was (in my time (circa 1976) and I'm sure is still the same) different. Your recruiter schedules you for a series of aptitude tests (The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) ) which is a measure of your already-acquired skills but also, far far more importantly, what you should be able to learn. On the basis of your ASVAB scores, your recruiter shows you a list of Military Occupational Specialities (MOS's) that you qualify for -- in my time that was called our AFSC, "Air Force Specialty Code", so apparently at some point the Air Force adopted the Army's MOS system. Whatever. OK, from my time (1976), when you enlisted in the Air Force you went in having selected a particular career path based on your ASVAB scores. During BMT, career counselors may try to divert you elsewhere, which can be good or bad, depending ... (eg, I had a BA German and a background in several foreign languages plus a Defense Language Aptitude Test score (DLAT -- there was a missionary type when I tested who wanted desperately to get language training and had failed that same test a couple times already, but it was so simple that I completed the hour-and-a-half test in less than 30 minutes. They obviously wanted me for SIGINT work, but my skills with languages is much more with the grammars than with the spoken words). Based on those choices, when you graduated from Basic Military Training (BMT) you went to a tech school for training in your chosen specialty. And then upon graduating form that school, you would go to your Permanent Duty Assignment (PDA) to ply your chosen trade. So what if that didn't work out? What if your dream job in the Air Force didn't meet your expectations? In my time (circa 1976), we had a concept of "cross-training". Does that still exist? Basically, towards the end of your first USAF enlistment you have the option of requesting cross-training to a new career path. In my 305x4 class (Electronic Computer Systems Repairman) we had a Staff Sergeant as a student who was cross-training from some other AFSC..

isn't there something call EC monitor?
@djcammykooma6 жыл бұрын
cren189 every trainee does EC duty. Depending what shift you get assigned, you basically have to stand for 2 hrs guarding the front door to your dorm. Its pretty shitty not gonna lie. Pro tip - dont fuck up the EC procedures.
@EloraJean6 жыл бұрын
Entry Control (EC) monitor is a job everyone in the flight does. There is one person who is assigned to create the weekly schedule, so that's a stressful job because everyone is trying to ask you to switch around the time you gave them. EC duty lasts for shifts of two hours, with two people on shift. You basically are in charge of guarding the dorm, making sure whoever comes inside is allowed to be there. There are procedures you learn regarding how to ask for ID, what to report, etc. It's a pain in the ass to be on EC duty from 2-4 in the morning (or any shift through the night), but if you're on it with someone cool you can end up writing letters or just hanging out. In general though, no one likes it haha

It's a pretty high percentage! I wanna say almost everyone makes it, the reasons people might fail out or have to delay graduation is for medical reasons, or...they just can't take it mentally? I don't know exact percentages, out of my flight only 2 girls quit because they decided it's not what they wanted to do, and two were put in medical hold for injuries they received that prevented them from continuing through the training. Aside from that I'm not too sure what the actual rates of passing are and likelihood of failing, but it's not great.

Talk about engineering please.
@EloraJean6 жыл бұрын
Hey! So engineering is sort of a broad term. There is the Civil Engineer Squadron, which consists of multiple career fields to include firefighters, plumbers, contractors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning technicians, etc. There are a ton of different branches! Any you are particularly interested in?
