Ed's incognito is so so fun and good. It's short and pacey would have been amazing as a series or a movie. He also worked with Nicolas refn on too old to die young, which is a good show.

Brubaker was one of the first writers I got into when I was first getting into comics in 2018-2019. Criminal, and from there Velvet, Fatale, Sleeper, Fade Out, Scene of the Crime, and currently his Cap run... he's probably one of my favorite writers and a huge reason why I'm still reading comics now. Bless this man. Looking forward to the copy of An Accidental Death I found. Pulp, Reckless, and undoubtedly Friday have been, and are gonna be awesome. I'd love to see interviews with people like Peter Milligan, Garth Ennis, Neil Gaiman, Sean Philips or Chris Bachalo.

Ed knew a kid who everyone thought would become a writer and got advice from him, and is now sharing that advice with us. The kid did not become a writer. The irony/beauty of this is wonderful. Thank you for doing this interview and sharing it with all of us!

Excellent interview. I hadn't seen or heard Ed talk previously and have to admit how chill and non-menacing a writer who does his best work in crime and violence (lol). This was a very informative conversation. I had not really heard of the gardener vs architect approach to writing. Sounds super interesting. Great job as usual Elsa.

Very interesting format. This interview was very nicely runned. And his experience is very inspiring. Comics author that I would love an interview of is Art Spiegelman. How he came from underground comics to maybe the most famous one (Maus) is always interesting, but Art Spiegelman rarely talks about his techniques for doing Comics.

Oh gosh, I would DIE if Art Spiegelman ever agreed to something like this.

Elsa, you have a wonderful talent for interviewing. I was thinking about Matt and Kelly Sue, but they don't usually do interviews together. I thought about Bill Sienkiewicz. His art is phenomenal! I'd love to hear his thoughts on where he gets his ideas.

Excellent interview, Elsa; what you are building here is so important for comics. And your love for the medium shines through in every video and it's infectious. I'd love to see you interview Matt Lesniewski (The Freak, Crimson Flower, Static), Eric Powell (Goon) or Liam Sharp (a LOT of comics).

You talked about Darwyn and the Parker Books, and I think your art style would be perfect to continue those adaptations! Or at least a project very similar (looking forward to whatever the future project with Brubaker is). I know those were very much Darwyn's baby, but I would love to see the series continued in spirit, even if it isn't the same creator.

Absolutely love what you have started here Elsa! This channel is something I didn't really know I was missing! Thanks also for a comment you made on your Case Study of Hawkeye that took me too Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou's Strip Panel Naked, which also is a real treasure trove. I will need to dig into his PanelxPanel when I can justify it in my budget. When it comes to other creators to interview I have so many I think would be cool to hear from. So I made a list (since I get excited and find it hard to limit the amount of suggestions): Writers: Kieron Gillen, Rick Remender, Greg Rucka, Simon Spurrier, Scott Snyder, Kelly Sue DeConnick Illustrators: Andrea Sorrentino, Wes Craig, Jon Davis-Hunt, Christian Ward, Greg Smallwood, Stephanie Hans, Jerome Opeña, Aaron Campbell, Matías Bergara, Emma Ríos, Sean Philips (would be a cool follow-up to this one with Ed), Jock, J.H. Williams III, David Aja, Bill Sienkiewicz, Eduardo Risso, Frank Quitely, Francesco Francavilla, Tula Lotay, Dave McKean Would also be interesting to see you prod the minds of writer-artists like Paul Pope, Mike Mignola and Jeff Lemire on the different approaches depending on if they do both things on a project or just write or draw. If I could dream big hearing Mike Carey or Neil Gaiman, writers very much concerned with the sheer fabric of storytelling in their comics, would make me ecstatic. An interview with a scolar like Scott McCloud on the nature of comics could be fascinating too. Doing some deep diving into colour and lettering, the territory of the often unsung heroes of the creative team, is something I would suggest for exploration. The Stewarts, Bellaires, Wootons and Kleins need their praise too. Looking into the "anatomy" of a good cover would also be highly revelatory. Since the great John Paul Leon died a few days ago a look into his work could be a good start and a nice celebration of his lasting legacy. Sorry I kind of went rambling but your channel really did whet my appetite. Here's to a prosperous life for your endeavours here and elsewhere! Thanks again for this harbour of comics creativity. Pär from Sweden

Great video and moment with a talented author. Some years ago, JASON AARON was everywhere on Marvel productions. i personnaly discovered him on a short story of Black Panther during the "secret invasion" period. He had a relly interesting way to present classical situations in a new way but iconic for characters. I never saw interview of him and i would love to see your questions for him. i'm really interesting in the way to write short stories too. Which seems to be the perfect step to enter in the comics creation. MIKE MIGNOLA seems to be a perfect author to do thats and evocated a background we never saw as a reader, but which feels immediatly consistant. This is my suggestions for author or subjects. Thank you very much for your GREAT work !

What exactly ed meant when he said about 'gardener' or 'architect' way of planning your story ??? Also i would love an interview of brian bendis or kelly tompson.
@ElsaCharretierChannel3 жыл бұрын
Ahead of typing out their script, the architect will precisely (with different degrees of obsessiveness) map out every single element of the story so that everything fits neatly. Their focus is usually on structure, in my experience. The gardener will be more loose in their outline, like Ed does, and will rely more on instinct and the inspiration of the moment to fill in the blanks when they move on to scripting. Is that clearer?
@mikepetro93013 жыл бұрын
