52:33 Context for the Warhammer stuff. Custodes like Space Marines have always been male, partly because they were made with the Emperor's genetic material. They have a literal sister faction known as the Sister's of Silence that work alongside them. Games Workshop tried to pretend they've always had female custodes, instead of just a retcon like they've done with the Necron faction. In fact, in-universe the fact that the factions are male only is seen as a shortsighted move by the Emperor, it's canon lore that Fabius Bile thinks the Emperor was an idiot for not making a genetic template for female space marines, the Imperium literally had to make military factions that were exclusively female to compensate. I like Nux but holy crap man, he really has no clue what he's talking about. As for the Fallout stuff, I'm fairly certain they're talking about Synthetic Man, and yeah, that guy is actually just a moron.

​@yappertherapper5124 so im a little rusty on the SOS, but I remember that they're essentially a faction of blanks (basically anti-warp/psykers) and they fight alongside the Custodes. Again I don't remember details because GW refuses to actually expand on their existing female factions like the fan base has been begging for (which is funny when this is apparently them being more progressive) The Necrons were a lot more "undead unstoppable army rising from the deep" before they were retconned into having sub factions and given more of an Egyption Dynasty motif. Compare how they are in Dawn of War vs a character like Trazyn the Infinite. A Necron explorer and collector would have been unheard of before. I personally like the direction they went, but a lot of people see it as another symptom of GW removing "grimdark" elements and trying to reach a wider audience.

I've seen people my age (the Gen X/Millennial overlap) try to dismiss Elsagate & its ilk as just like when people would complain about kids watching too much TV when we were little. The big difference, though, is that TV is waaaaaaaay more regulated than anything online. The FCC wouldn't let shit like that "real or fake ding-dong challenge" or tissue paper "censorship" slip by unfined on TV. It's especially stark when you realize that the stuff YT does bother to regulate (mild swearing, discussions of suicide, violence, etc) is treated with more leniency on TV. Just a complete apples to oranges situation. I agree with Raymundo - kids shouldn't be online on general sites unsupervised. And that's including 14yos on Xwitter trying to "explain" complex topics with all the nuance & intelligence of shipping discourse.

Fun thing for the 40k. Since the beginning they have changed the lore. It's a running meme that the cannon changes. If you play dark tide you'll hear them say "OH! I think the doctrine changed on that! That never happened!!" For giant lore points that used to be well known. For example. The first edition had xeno mutant space Marines.

The entire 13th Black Crusade series of books was a massive retcon of a genuinely awesome event where the battle of Cadia was decided by real life tabletop matches and Battlefleet Gothic games. The result was a stalemate with chaos victory on the planet, but imperial supremacy in orbit, and eventually the invaders were eliminated. Cadia stood. Then GW erased it (a decade later mind you) and gave the win to Abaddon. I don't see anyone crying about their battle scores being nullified, but bring up that dreaded "f" word and everyone loses their shit about the tiny plastic soldiers.

Not the best comparison. Amazon's have been a thing for thousands of years in mythology with hundreds of stories written about them. Custodes on the other hand have one sentence that refers to them as all male that was written 6 years ago. Most of Custodes lore doesn't mention gender at all as the writers wanted female Custodes ever since they started expanding on Custodes lore. GW prevented them from writing about female Custodes because of a policy they have inplace that prevents the writers from writing about thing that don't have official models and there weren't any female Custodes models, so they forced to writers to not mention them up until now.

Sargon is massively into 40k, he explains in detail the lore reasons why female Custodes don't exist. I don't play 40k, but my understanding is that the Custodes are an elite guard of super soldiers who are specifically with protecting the Emperor of Mankind, so they're the best of the best. The average man is genetically stronger than the average woman, and considering they're genetically engineering the perfect soldiers, having it be a woman doesn't make sense. At least, not according to the original lore. It's basically eugenics to the extreme. 40k is not a game that _anyone_ is supposed to find themselves represented in. 40k is a hellscape, everyone is bad, there is no good side.

I have a personal friend that works as a programmer on one of the teams developing the algorithm that scrubs content for advertiser friendliness. And I can tell you the corporate attitude they have, it's only going to get worse.But the way it basically works is it's all randomly scrubbed unless an advertiser specifically points something out that they want scrubbed or if one of the employees happens to just see something that they think should be added.Beyond that, there's almost never anyone actually looking at the video or even images. It's completely transcript based, but there are new ones that can take image data and make it into a kind of category transcript to scrub for bad images, but that's not implemented Right now.They truly don't worry about censorship in the slightest and think it could only move culture in a positive direction anyway, so it's only going to become more whitewashed and more advertiser friendly.You're the product. With the Fallout show, I understand why people really enjoyed it as I was actually enjoying the first half of it, but the major plot twist in the last episode in particular absolutely killed any delusions of me giving the show a pass, and multiple glaring points in the story that don't make any damn sense in retrospect really stood out to me after watching the whole season. Yes, there were some big lore and plot problems, and yes I took issue with some of that as a Fallout fan, but I expected a lot of that going in and was willing to still go along with what the show was cooking, just to give it a fair chance. I've got no doubt that some people were big mad for some really ridiculous reasons like Mutahar says, but I feel like most people are being way less critical of the show than I would have expected despite some pretty big problems it had and I honestly don't get why more people aren't noticing or talking about this stuff. Maybe like Muta said: coming off of the Halo show, this shit looks golden, I dunno.

Spoilery rant ahead, entirely unprompted for those interested. The show still gets me unreasonably heated. Also, love the podcast and finally catching up super late, can't wait for Muta to keep bringing up the Fallout show and for me to keep getting tilted a month after the fact lol: ...... ......... ............. ................. The main moment that killed it for me was at the very end with the CEOs meeting that explains Vault Tec's whole plan to destroy the world for honestly jumbled up and confused reasons that barely made sense as they were explaining it. The best I can parse from it after watching it and thinking about it far more than I'd like is that they were planning to win Capitalism by nuking the entire earth to oblivion and being the only survivors? Who the fuck is actually making money here if you go so far as to actually kill all your consumers? And the whole "new world order" schtick where there are no factions doesn't make any damn sense seeing as they literally set it up so these different corporations with their own vaults would grow into the new factions that then compete with one another, so that doesn't make sense either. Besides, that type of stuff is more of an Enclave thing than a Vault Tec thing, but that's getting into lore complaints and the lore is a little vague on the subject anyways so I'll avoid touching that here. Still, the whole scene is just nonsense and is clearly supposed to be taken seriously despite how stupid it is. Even if you were to brush it off as parody, parody does not have to equal "idiot plot" as far as I'm concerned. Besides, for all of the "satire" in Fallout, people seem to forget there is a lot of serious storytelling presenting interesting and thought-provoking questions and subjects throughout some of the games (yes, I mainly mean the west coast Fallout games, though I still find some enjoyment in FO3 and FO4's gameplay despite not liking their stories). By this point, the second half of the season was already wearing thin on me and yet this whole reveal was absolutely the worst part of the show for me. By far, far beyond any lore concerns or concerns about their treatment of different factions, this Vault Tec plot twist was my biggest bone to pick with the show that pushed it over the edge. Also there's just a lot of seeming plot inconsistencies or plot threads that are just dropped without explanation or payoff throughout the entire season, which all have nothing to do with outside lore and amounts to ramshackle storytelling within the show itself. A couple major ones that come to mind are: 1) The fact that Moldaver is supposed to be the leader of the remains of Shady Sands, a settled and civilized people, and was friends with Lucy's mom, even knowing Lucy as a kid. Yet when she comes to the vault to kidnap Hank, she either goes in with a group of random raiders that I have to presume she hires that will terrorize and slaughter everyone there, Lucy and her brother included, or she went in with actual NCR soldiers yet ordered them to do the same thing and also they acted completely barbaric like raiders despite being normal ass settlers or trained soldiers? This point is not explained at all later. She also goes in under the pretense of this marriage exchange thing the vaults do, where apparently no one in the vault cares that they don't recognize anyone despite this being an annual event where they should know the other people, and Moldaver even lets some rando have sex with Lucy under false pretenses before he then attempts to kill her. And yet despite slaughtering the people of this vault who she knows is full of innocent people that don't know about the Vault Tec stuff, she's apparently the good guy in this whole scenario because Vault Tec bad and "communist" cold fusion good? I mean they could have made this interesting but instead it comes off like they did not plan this out properly and made shit up at the end. 2) The water chip is broken??? People treat this like it's just an "easter egg" but like wtf??? The guy literally explains that because it's broken they only have a few months worth of water left and they're all going to die from dehydration soon as a result and it's essentially played for a gag. This is literally the entire impetus for the story of Fallout 1 to happen because your vault in that game is going to die if you don't go and find a replacement, and the maintenance guy's explanation essentially amounts to the same scenario for the show. And yet this never comes up again throughout the rest of the season, even though this should be the number one concern for the people of the vault before anything else. There's more stuff to mention that doesn't make sense if you include lore into this discussion, and a lengthier discussion to be had about Bethesda's possible intentions and motives behind certain choices made in the show, but as I don't expect people to know the lore and context going into this show, these are instead problems that just the show itself presents. Overall, I think the show did a good job of giving the impression of a well made show and the production value did it a lot of favors in that regard, with the first half of the season giving me the impression of a solid setup for the rest of the show, but there's sadly far less in the story that I found as compelling as I hoped it would be. After thinking about it critically for a bit, it was poorly pieced together and things they set up were either fumbled in the second half or straight up not touched on again. I really wish I could have enjoyed this show more, as like I said, the production value and design direction was honestly pretty phenomenal. I think they did an amazing job with the visual and design aspects of realizing the world of Fallout, but yeah the story is honestly just not written at a very competent level and doesn't meet the potential it could have had. I get why people think this is a good tv adaptation of a video game, but I really hope this doesn't become the standard, at least not quite with where it's at. The visuals were on point, but if they could get the writing and story up to snuff then that would make for a better model for future adaptations. Doesn't leave me much hope for season 2 as I'm just left dreading what else they might mess up, because as Todd has insisted at every opportunity, ALL OF THIS IS CANON.

The part is their was women space Marines their motels just did not sell so they retconed them. This was very early into Warhammer's existence. In lore it would work probably. I am also not even seeing complaining in the community it is either the people way into the lore and thinks it can't change for anything or people outside of the community.

The Custodes incident isn't because they're introducing females into it. It's because the long established lore has always made it a male only thing. Female factions do exist, two or three of them I think. I'm not into Warhammer but I've seen enough videos about this controversy to know that the lore for the Custodes goes back to like the 90s. From that point until now they've always been cited as male exclusive. That's why people are pissed. They're actively pissing on established lore to virtue signal. It's almost like they're saying all female factions are fine but we can't have all male factions. Some say it's Amazon's doing. One of their stipulations to produce the show or something.

If your talking 40k yes it's lore from the beginning that women can't be space marines, until now at least. But there is 2 women specific legions that are bad ass and most assasins I know of are women in the universe. Sisters of silence are the females in direct service to the emperor and the only ones with the mental fortitude to see the emporors true form.

The women soldiers you are thinking of from Warhammer 40k are known as "The Sisters of Battle". They are also known as "Adepta Sororitas" and "The daughters of the Emperor". They aren't genetically modified like Space Marines, but their faith in the emperor is so strong that they can sometimes literally become manifestations of God like power. And if that happens, you are so utterly fucked it's not even funny lol. They also usually wield giant F off Chain Great swords (heavy eviscerators) and those are cool as hell 😎 Sisters of Battle are super cool!

Let's be real... if parents would rather let everyone else (i.e. internet, strangers, businesses, teachers, etc.) raise their kids OTHER THAN themselves... then clearly they believe their own children are "inconveniences" that should be everyone else's problem to deal with. We all know these parents exists, and sadly enough, most of them are in self-denial and/or too delusional to ever admit that they are at fault whatsoever. If your children are such an inconvenience to you then give them up for adoption to REAL parents who actually WANT to raise them properly. It's not the internet's job to monitor your kids. Nor teachers, nor strangers, nor businesses/corporations, etc. I would never have kids if I couldn't provide enough time to monitor what they do and raise them the right way.
