I wasn't sure where Eltham is , before I realized it was Melbourne, I was pretty much convinced it was somewhere in NZ . I was six years old in 1970 , I remember those days quite well , and I miss the way things were then . Seeing that dog wandering on it's own , reminds me of my neighborhood back then , dogs roamed freely and they were your friends, just like the other kids in the street, there didnt seem to be any bother over it.

The very first time we went to Eltham was to visit a guy who had a cool comic collection…that was in January of 77.

Gr8 memories since birth as a kid Grew up in Arthur St in the 70s early 80s
@PatracatsOtherPlace-js2wy6 күн бұрын
Small world!!! I live in Arthur Street! We bought our home in 1981 and have stayed there ever since. I didn't recognise any part of Eltham in that film clip, hard to believe it was only 11 years before we moved here. Main Street was fully made, lined with shops when we arrived.

I was born in sMelbourne in 1966. Lived in Cheltenham, if you can call that living. It was like living in an unsuccessful mining town / slum.

Toyota Corona. First on sale in Australia late 1964, then local assembly from January 1965 at the AMI factory in Port Melbourne. Long Corona production run until replaced by the Camry. Just after AMI stopped assembly of the Mercedes Benz 220 S and 220 SE models. Australian Motor Industries (AMI) were the only Australian owned car company in the sixties and seventies.

Sitting quietly, or wandering the gardens in Monsalvat. Gee that wouldn’t look any different, would it. Beautifully old then and now. Nothing looked familiar in the streets in this vid, it’s changed a tad.

They came later, my Dad and Uncle had blocks of land in Eltham in the 1950's. My Dad sold his block to his brother before I was born in 1964, not sure of the year. He regretted it all his life. My Uncle became very wealthy when he sold up early 1980's.

@ Wow, that’d be worth a pretty penny now. My girlfriend and hubby have lived, not built, bought in Eltham, 2 times lol. It’s a beautiful spot but getting, as u know, built out further and further

I not convinced Melbourne was better back then if this is how Eltham was in 1970.🤢 Dad getting hammered at the Pub, blowing through his meagre wages. Kids running amok, unsupervised in the streets. Mum stuck at home praying for a better life in the Women's Weekly. Different, but definitely not better.
