I was blessed to attend one of his solo shows. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. He played his heart out for two and a half hours and made it look easy.

I have watched this rendition of Burn down the mission Over 100 times and I am stunned every time. His piano ability and style just draws you in. Just brilliant. Eltons music will live on for ever. It is that good.

You tell me there’s an angel in your tree Did he say he’d come to call on me For things are getting desperate in our home Living in the parish of the restless folks I know Everybody now bring your family down to the riverside Look to the east to see where the fat stock hide Behind four walls of stone the rich man sleeps It’s time we put the flame torch to their keep Burn down the mission If we’re gonna stay alive Watch the black smoke fly to heaven See the red flame light the sky Burn down the mission Burn it down to stay alive It’s our only chance of living Take all you need to live inside Deep in the woods the squirrels are out today My wife cried when they came to take me away But what more could I do just to keep her warm Than burn, burn, burn, burn down the mission walls

There are no words to say how good this song is. Simply a work of art

One of my Elton John favorites. Not only are the lyrics meaningful but the song really gives way to some great keyboard solo and great chord progressions. Bernie Taupin and Elton Jonn were quite a songwriting duo and a sorely missed one by me. Understandably in life people go off in different directions but this is one duo I wish would have stayed together a lot longer than they did.

+Teresa Mondragon They *are* still together. In fact, they never fully split up. They've written with other people over the years, but they've never actually called it quits. Elton's newest album, Wonderful Crazy Night, released in January 2016, features Taupin lyrics, as has every studio album for the past 30+ years. In fact, only two Elton John albums, 1978's A Single Man and 1979's Victim of Love, are completely devoid of Taupin's lyrics.

I read he said this concert was one in which he had to practice extremely hard. Because there were no other instruments except his voice, he had no room for playing errors...

Elton had been playing solo shows like these for a while prior to this concert so it wasn't anything he couldn't handle but considering this was being broadcasted on the internet, he was probably nervous no doubt.

Also this was the first solo concert he did since 1976 and his voice had changed drastically since then. So that’s why he was so nervous

@@BassManDan1018 Root Beer Rag is not difficult at all and takes maybe 6 months of experience to play easily. Getting it faster does not take much work

Root Beer Rag is impressive but not nearly as improvisational. Billy Joel has admitted on several occasions that EJ is the better player and plays stuff in chords tbat he dosen't even know how to play in. BJ is still awesome though!

@@BassManDan1018 I’m an Elton fan but I suspect Billy is “technically” a better player. However, as a composer, not a chance. Look how Elton works with only a vocal and piano here - attempting to achieve the same range as November 1971 except he only has his voice and a piano* (assisted, of course)

this is a lame audience! When I hear his 3 minute piano solo near the end, I would expect they would be on their feet, clapping, etc. at least I feel that way!
@belilov4 жыл бұрын
I dont know mate... Interrupting such a performance with clapping and yelling would feel sacrilegious to me. These activities are more appropriate for a big concert, with full band, lights, backing vocalists, fireworks and everything else, not for such an exquisite, small-scale gig by just Mr. Elton John and his piano.
@beniciomoldenado23154 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with Dimitar Belilov. The audience was polite and considerate and they gave Sir Elton a standing ovation, *at the end* which is proper. It is not necessary to jump up and down and whoop and holler. That my friend is lame.
