I just saw this video. I was blown away of all the footage that included my brother, Guy. It’s been 11 years since he died. I have a hard time with this song because I can just see him being lifted up on stage to those wonderful synth sounds he was creating. But I so appreciated seeing the closeups, his smile, his set up. I remember him arranging his keyboards like that in the basement (thanks Rick Wakeman) when he was in high school. Yes, I’m an emotional mess right now but at the same time appreciative.

I saw him many times in concert with Elton, including this tour in 1995, and came to appreciate his talent as an arranger through Elton's stage work. Know his contributions continue to be enjoyed by millions around the world - many fans consider this band to be one of Elton's finest.

The Funeral For A Friend intro used more live parts than before as you can see and hear Guy Babylon playing the brass, strings, choir, and Arp parts on his keyboards. It's hard to do fully live and in the 70's and 80's playback was used right until Elton started playing the piano.

Love him, hate him, be indifferent about him but you cannot ignore him - when EJ is feeling it he is on fire! He will give every ticket holder in that vast arena every cents worth of the ticket they bought. He always delivers a heart stopping performance backed by seasoned and highly skilled bandmates that will take the performance to the next level. It is the pinnacle of live modern rock music - SO GOOD!

This is the best ever Elton John / Bernie Taupin music ever. Back in the day, I saw a couple performing a dance routine on ice to this and it was outstanding. At the end, the audience went crazy. I have tried many times to find it on the net with no luck. I will keep trying, it was fabulous.

The roses in the window box Have tilted to one side Everything about this house Was born to grow and die Oh it doesn't seem a year ago To this very day You said I'm sorry honey If I don't change the pace I can't face another day And love lies bleeding in my hand Oh it kills me to think of you with another man I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan But my guitar couldn't hold you So I split the band Love lies bleeding in my hands I wonder if those changes Have left a scar on you Like all the burning hoops of fire That you and I passed through You're a bluebird on a telegraph line I hope you're happy now Well if the wind of change comes down your way girl You'll make it back somehow And love lies bleeding in my hand Oh it kills me to think of you with another man I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan But my guitar couldn't hold you So I split the band Love lies bleeding in my hands And love lies bleeding in my hand Oh it kills me to think of you with another man I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan But my guitar couldn't hold you So I split the band Love lies bleeding in my hands

Summer camp, 1974. I was ten. The old dude that was the bunk counselor was around 16. He would play rock (AOR) album's all night as a way for him to sleep without any regard how it may have impacted the 20, or so ten year old boys. Until... he played the best of all of Elton John's albums. When the needle scratched it's groove into the song, "Funeral for a Friend", I felt that my newly discovered "me" was about to embark on a musical journey. Pro Tip: When diving into Sir Elton's music, best to work backwards from this album.

Just imagine this being played to Wolfgang Mozart - first just the sound (I wonder if he could even identify more than the piano and drums) and then again with video as well . . . He would be absolutely blown away by the arrangements and depth of sound especially in the synthesizer intro, and again seeing there are only seven performers . . . and no sheet music . . . and no conductor either !!

I love the song but was it wiht Elton and always singing with his lips against the mic.? Does he not have confidence in his sound people or something ...?? Weird. Also,, this version is super hurried and fast... what's up with that? Sounds horrible.
@gordonm70387 жыл бұрын
rick rickster That's a mic technique that doesn't always work. It's about spitting out the wordies so they convey the heart's feeling. Great when it works!
@joeysahouria50586 жыл бұрын
Also, to make up for the higher tempo (not hurried), they added more solos. DO YOUR DAMN RESEARCH.
