Elton John and Princess Diana's deep connection has been well documented as they supported each other through some of the toughest of times. This included Diana's very public divorce and the assassination of their mutual friend, Gianni Versace. However Gianni's funeral would mark the last time the two would ever see each other as Diana would be killed in a tragic car accident just 6 weeks later.
A heartbroken Elton decided to gift the Princess with a fitting tribute on the day of her funeral with a personalised rendition of 'Candle In The Wind', this was later released and became the best selling single of all time with all profits going to Princess Diana's charitable foundation. In this video, Elton John discusses their close bond and why he will never sing his song dedicated to her ever again in public.

True, I remember when they took away her title thinking that would stop our love for her. So foolish of them to believe titles and robes were why we cared so deeply for Diana. There maybe Kings and Queens by the numbers but only one Princess Diana. She loved the people, small, big,poor and different not because it was her job because it was in her nature. I think just a lot of emotional strain, speaking with a lot of Italians while over there he unintentionally picked up the accent. It’s a sign of feeling deeply connected with someone to unintentionally mimic their voice.

If she had not infiltrated the British Royal Family, no one would have ever heard of her. She never did an ounce of charity work beforehand and the day after the divorce was finalized, she dropped 100 charities from her list, keeping only the 6 that brought her the most attention. Of course, she kept the one that you mentioned. She knew too many potential cases, including her last "boyfriend".
