Im 48, i was 16-17 when this was out.. I dont recall chart positions, though im sure i could find them... ill never forget this song and what was going on in my life at the time... im in poor health now and wont be around a long time..so i try and listen to things to take me out of sadness. Luckily i have his entire career up to 2000 on my phone...in 80s i cut grass to buy his record's .. my god if i could only go back.

The reason why this video is animated: Elton John was spending his time with Ryan White, who was dying from AIDS (contracting it from a bad blood transfusion as a hemophiliac); White died the same month this single was released (April 1990) and thus Elton couldn't film a video. The animation company also did Madonna's Dear Jessie music video.

I could never get sick of Elton songs! Actually, A couple of weeks ago, my 2 cd players conked out on me; & I had a cold, so I could'nt go out ( because of covid). So, I had to wait about 4 days to get a new cd player & now I'm back in business! It was a terrible 4 days without Elton's beautiful singing, Major ELTON WITHDRAWAL! I love it a thousand times more, knowing what Elton John has has to go through, to find love. Romeo and Juliet also each had people after them, who would kill them, bc of forbidden love. So too, it was, in the 1980s. A person could find himself murdered, so a secret rendezvous point where a couple could have fun, and for a few hours, be free of living in fear and able to express love for one another, makes this a more romantic song than "So does the youth, so does the fairest maid," from Romeo & Juliet, more romantic than Brad Paiseley's "Then," and more romantic than Celine Dion's "My heart will go on. This is a blissful and happy, much needed song.

I have never understood why this great record wasn't a big hit here in Britain. It was the follow-up single to "Sacrifice", which was Elton's first solo Number One. But Club... didn't even reach the Top 40, despite being a magical pop record accompanied by a brilliant and memorable video. There's no justice!

'The Place' at the corner of South 1st Street and Keyes Street in San Jose, California. Their motto is 'The longest bar in town' had played this song inside the establishment. Always been hopping after 10PM on weekends at 'The Place' in 1990. A long time ago I still remember today.😄

This song came out at about the same time as my lovely lady and I were wed, and I remember coming home from work and having a glass of wine with her while we relaxed and watched videos on MTV or VH1. Of all the fine vids that year, this one stands out for its sweetness of lyrics and the story of a young couple -- just like us! -- going to their favorite little club; it certainly resonated with we two newlyweds, as we must've watched it every day for God only knows how many times. Now it's 30 years later, that same lady and I are still happily married and MTV & VH1 are (for all intents and purposes) gone, but this wonderful song and video are still out there, still just as entertaining and still just as sweet as it was all those years ago. Happy thirtieth to the Club at the End of the Street!
