Been after a a few wild dogs that we have seen now a few times but haven't had the rifle or a chance to get a shot at them. But manage to put a few more ferals on the deck in the mean time.

Anyone humanely controlling feral animals (dogs, cats, pigs, foxes, rabbits, etcetera) is good in my book. Well done Sir.

It's also crazy to think that human population is way out of control too, but shooting one of them is highly illegal! 😂

In the 1980s I was at Darwin Airport, a blatantly “High Camp” Australian actor “breezed” into the Airport with an entourage, an old “bushie” was leaning on the wall at the entrance, rolling a cigarette, he turned and looked at me and said “The things you see when you don’t have a gun”. I think he meant it!

Its interesting how different properties face different problems. I never kill dingos because ive observed over 30 or more years on the farm, the dingos have caused very little damage. In the years dingos have been culled, we find massive increases of other ferral animals like foxes & wild dogs build up very quickly. The dingos kill them for territory & do not breed up as fast as the feral dogs or foxes, so the dingos are an advantage in our case. In recant years our local governments targeted dingos heavily with poison bates, and the result has been absolutely monstrous explosions of feral pigs which do unprecedented damage to properties and we never had any pigs before the baiting programs in 30 years.

Interesting relationships. KZbin hunting Aussie has left the impression pigs may have population increases severely affected by something and dogs/dingoes seem a likely agent. Getting the juveniles. Would be interesting if that has been researched. properly. Likewise the nature of dogs & intelligence/breed traits makes it likely there are "good" ones and problem ones, & a pack of good ones adopting a property might be a bonus. Something that can't be assessed from the sign unfortunately. Having no pigs pre baiting operations might be a chronological distribution/dispersal issue, they can't breed up if they haven't got to an area. Pest ungulate spread is enhanced with hunting popularity (which coincides with the timeframe), particularly with commercial attraction and guiding. And aggravated by some pest protection laws from governments, and advocacy from recreational hunter lobbies.

Thanks mate. It's in the middle of being edited atm 👍. It is a bit of a home made thing. I got the clamp from my brother that he got from his work and i adapted it to fit the tripod and fit the rifle. A hog saddle would be much better than this but i couldn't justify spending the money when I could make something that does the job haha.

Closer into town I found a Satin Bowerbird, bower, they collect blue items mostly and wattle sprigs, well he had a blue condom wrapper in the collection, funny but sad as well, and lots of milk bottle caps. Shame you couldn't get up close to the Kingy, would have been nice for your overseas viewers. So much equipment to run that property, even down to a laser level!

Yes it's amazing what they will find and pick up and also sad how much rubbish people leave laying around. We don't get the satin bowerbird here. Mostly the spotted bowerbird. But i did see one regent bowerbird here in the 2019 drought. Only one I've ever seen. Yes I've just gone halves in a camcorder with a fair bit of zoom but didn't have it yet then so hopefully I'll be able to get some more footage of wildlife easier.

Transporting the rifle muzzle down in the vehicle risks getting dust in the barrel end, which acts like grinding paste on the most critical part when fired, decreasing barrel life. Plus faster to get into the opposition if spotted out the vehicle window with the business end upwards. Seems likely if near dog areas the earthworks would attract them when it's fresh, a good time & place to trap or bait maybe, or non toxic bait & stalk.
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Жыл бұрын
Usually if i have the rifle in the ute it's leaning on the dash with muzzle up so i can get it out quickly for a shot if needed. And I pretty much always have the chamber empty and bolt closed to keep the dust out. But the amount of dust around especially when I have it on the bike with me behind a mob of cattle, I'd have to put a muzzle cap on to keep the dust out but then would probably forget to pull it out. Not sure how long barrels last but I've put about 7000 rounds through that one since I've had it and it still shoots fine. Yes fresh earthworks do attract them sometimes and I have tried trapping after freshly grading a track but haven't really had much success with that here. I've got the dogs pretty well under control here now. Not a lot around.

@@intothenight1993 A bit of insulation tape over the end is ok in fine weather. Just shoot through it. But not if wet, it can hold water in the barrel and cause a bulge when the bullet hits it, or act like an obstruction. Water in the barrel of one with a foresight will do it too, without the tape due to irregular expansion past the foresight.

Have the muzzle down like in a helicopter. Better to be safe. Working guns get scratched and worn and not that collectible. Trying to keep Australian fine dust out of anything is near impossible on a farm.

@@tonydoggett7627 i prefer to carry it like I do and never with one up the spout so it is always safe. My guns always get knocked around and are never very pretty to look at before too long but they are still work horses and shoot better than me most of the time haha.

@@tonydoggett7627 In Africa, many times, they have hunters on the back of the ute - not to shoot out of the ute, but to be transported to areas where the hunt can start. Many of those areas prefer the rifles inside to be muzzle down, because you can be sitting on a seat on the back, looking down some dude's barrel, which is uncomfortable. Just shows different strokes for different folks.

It is estimated that about 6,600 adults (including 1,400 mature individuals) live in 39 subpopulations that are all threatened by habitat fragmentation, human persecution, and outbreaks of disease. As the largest subpopulation probably comprises fewer than 250 individuals, the African wild dog has been listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List since 1990. Humans in the world over 7 billion
