Everyone: Helvetios is a concept album about a group of Gauls, the Helvetii, who used to live in areas of present-day france and switzerland(where the band is from). The album is a story told from the perspective of one of the helvetii, and in this song a girl has stopped at a shrine to epona, goddess of horses and fertility, to try to find answers to why the tragedy of the roman invasion has happened, and why they have been so utterly routed by the romans.

Technically, it was the Suebi that drove the Helvetii from their lands. Rather than stand their ground and defend their homeland, they chose to migrate to Roman territory without permission. Not saying they deserved what they got but you don't just violate someone's borders without repercussions.

Megfeledkeztél nevedhez hű férjeinkről? Előtted állok most Míg haldoklunk És eléd bíbor rózsát vetek Annyi hű kéz most elszakadt Reményünk elítélten fúl Hol voltál? Ó, most rám szakad az ég Kezed vénül és egyre gyengébb Neked áldozom most magamat Áldozatom meddőn porlad (Rám szakad) Szent nemetonod Kövei közt oly hideg a csend Mint a megtört anyai szív Sirat megannyi holt Reményt és elveszett álmot Hol voltál? Ó, most rám szakad az ég Kezed vénül és egyre gyengébb Neked áldozom most magamat Áldozatom meddőn porlad Áldozatom... (Epo, Epo, miért hagytál el engem?) Semmibe múlunk mi mind (Kezedbe ajánlom lelkem) Így velünk hal nevünk és népünk Hol voltál? Hol voltál? Ó, most rám szakad az ég Kezed vénül és egyre gyengébb Neked áldozom most magamat Áldozatom meddőn porlad Rám szakad...

The sky is falling on me As your hand's turning old and weak I'm giving myself up to thee A futile sacrifice gone sere Epo, epo why hast thou forsaken me? Together we go unsung Into thy hand I commend my spirit Together we go down with our people Were you there? Were you there? The sky is falling on me As your hand's turning old and weak I'm giving myself up to thee A futile sacrifice gone sere Falling on me...

@@kosmici87 From Chrigel Glanzmann: "The song 'A Rose For Epona' appears about in the middle of the storyline - so, it tells about the time when the gaulish war broke out already. The Helvetians decided to leave their homeland and migrate to the west coast of Gallia, to start a new life there. In the time the song tells about, many Helvetians had to face pretty much shattered hopes. And so does the protagonist, from whose viewpoint the song is written: A young gaulish woman. She was part of the helvetic migration, but after the battle of Bibracte, all hopes that she and her people would ever reach their new home were torn to pieces. Furthermore you can imagine: She probably had lost her husband on the battlefields of Bibracte and she had to face fact that she can be glad if their common newborn child would not be killed and she herself would be sold into roman slavery. To sum it up: Her situation was desperate. In this situation 'our' young gaulish woman despairs, can't accept her fate and turns to her goddess Epona... and accuses her for having forsaken her people. This is what the song expresses. On a historical note: 'Epona' was a gaulish goddess which was, among other things, in charge of taking care of horsemen and the cavallery. All over Gallia there were Epona temples where people traditionally offered up freshly cut roses or rose petals to their goddess."

*Epona is the Celtic goddess of Horses* for those that didn't know. Interestingly enough it was worshipped in modern day Spain, France, Belgium, Northern Italy and obviously in Helvetia (Switzerland) by the Celts in those regions and was later absorbed as a deity by the Romans (specially the cavalry), after conquering Helvetia, Hispania and Gaul.
