Seeing your reaction made me reaffirm how much this music and this scene influence us to find out about its place of origin. It's all very beautiful! It makes you want to get to know the country. I'm almost becoming a fan of mountains. xD Great reaction and comments from you! Thanks for sharing with us. Hug.

They have songs in Gaulish, an ancient and extinct language spoken by the Helveti, the ancient tribe living in Switzerland until the Rome Invasion. I think is that language you listened. Next I suggest a very old one, "Inis Mona", sang only by Chrigel, no female vocalist.
@markhoward2811

The song 'Inis Mona' is the Gaulish/Celtic name for the Isle of Anglesey known as 'Ynys Môn' in North Wales, UK where I come from. It has many religious links and even St. Patrick visited it from Ireland and built a church here.

😍Anna Maria Murphy😍Her era in the band is my favourite Eluveitie. Her voice is just..... amazing,and she looks wonderful too. Even till this very day,shes only 32 so still a young stunner! Heard Rose For Epona yet? Thats another huge favourite song of mine. Did you know shes a singer,a multi instrumentalist (everyone in Eluveitie are lol),and even a audio engineer. Anna is the lady with a big L! Want to see her super young?! Eluveitie - Omnos. Super young and super cute. If you havent checked thoose out already that is 😁

As I understand their style is more like the previous song, this is just a typical single more radio friendly as you said. Still love this song and love Anna's voices...the band she and some other members started is called Cellar Darling, it's pretty good from what I've heard.

Hey everybody Sorry to just drop in here, it's maybe a little unusual. But lately I just came to enjoy reaction videos and Thomas' ones are just really sweet. :) But anyway, just a few things for clearing up: Yeah, at the time we recorded "The call of the mountains" we did have a different line-up. The song's from our album "Origins" and it was the last album with our old line-up. Ever since we do have the line-up you saw in "Rebirth". And yeah... @Randall Hidalgo is actually right! :) "Both" are our style, so to speak. As a band we're around for about 20 years now, we've released around 10 albums and we always kept that... how do you say?... versatilely, maybe. We always did really harsh, dark and intense songs and we always did rather simple, catchy and often also slightly softer, mostly female voiced songs. Since our debut album. I think that's just who we are. The only musical "boundaries" we ever set to ourselves are: 100% metal combined with 100% traditional Celtic folk music. That's it. Everything else is fully open. :) And yeah... some people suggested songs off our acoustic albums. So @Thomas: Just fyi, we did two purely acoustic albums (which both are also kept in gaulish - ancient Celtic - language fully; such as that outro childrends choir in "The call of the mountains"), but these were mere "special projects". We're a metal band basically. :) So, everything said, I think. :) Cool suggestions out there! Thanks to everybody! If you're up to bloody flute solo's, you maybe wanna check "King" or maybe also live performances of "Breathe" or "Deathwalker" (or "King"). ;) Take care everybody! Chrigel & Eluveitie

Dude i know i'm late, discovered you lately (like literally today) but yes, their more likely style is more like Rebirth, and you should seriously check their song called Ategnatos, in the same variance of Rebirth but add it some mythologic epicness i would say, you'll love it ! :D Thumbs up earned !

If you liked this one, check out A Rose For Epona (the lyric video explains the story the song is telling and gives context). My most honest advice is to check out their album Ategnatos (song suggestions Black Water Dawn, The Slumber, and Ategnatos). After that just go down their videos on KZbin 😁 Thanks again for another great video and have a fantastic day 🤘😎🎸

The childs quire was propably singing in Gaulish. Dead language used by Celtic tribes. Eluveite used to sing in Gaulish or as I should say the most possible reconstruction of that language. The band worked with linguists and made own reserach to recreate the sound of Gaulish. About their style. Their first two albums Spirit and Slania are more close to Rebirth with power and energy. Next album - Evocation I (2009) with it's continuation Evocation II (2017) are 100% folk albums. No metal. On the other albums they are somewhere in middle ground between Rebirth and Call of the Mountains. They keep great variety of songs, some more heavy, some ballads, some 100% folk, but IMHO the best representation of their late style with previos lineup (with Anna Murphy) is 'King". From early years the most iconic song is 'Inis Mona'. I could recommend whole Spirt, Slania, Evocation I and Helvetios albums. IMHO are the best of Eluveitie. The last one is concept album that tells the story of Roman conquest of Gaul from Gaulish prespective.

hurdy gurdy is what anna plays (the female singer), it is sort of a mechanical violin, she turns the handle and pushes buttons down that impact the strings so you can get massively cool reverb and sustain etc... anna rules, they broke up and anna with the bass player and drummer formed Cellar Darling who are excellent.. and the original band is still also awesome, just different, anna is a singular talent imo... her voice is insanely good like tori amos (check our anna's solo record)

Both styles/eras are great. Having a bit of Trad Irish background, I can attest that even the all-acoustic music is metal as hell. btw, in an enclosed room, the uilleann pipes should be considered a lethal weapon, lol.

Bet when you started your reaction journey that you never envisioned headbanging to a tin whistle solo :) I believe they use uilleann pipes, the same that Troy plays in Nightwish. Fun fact about Eluveitie is that several of their band members were hired after Chrigel saw them playing Eluveitie covers on youtube. Completely unrelated: Whatever Jinjer song you had lined up to react to next, drop it and do the new single Vortex instead. It really showcases their growth & maturity as a band, and the ending is DIRTY. It takes a few listens to really get it, as it has so many complexities in it, but it's an absolute banger. My new favourite song from them.

Great review Thomas! I am a Canadian that has lived in Switzerland for the last 25 years. I am very proud of Eluveitie as an iconic folk metal band that also sings in other languages. In fact there is a version of Call of the Mountains in Swiss German and some other songs in an approximaton of the ancient Helvetic tribes languages. The range of instruments is amazing and they are played by excellent musicians. The singer in this video was Anna Murphy who left in 2016 with 2 other band members and they now have a band called Cellar Dalring. The singer in Rebirth is Fabienne Erni and she has brought a new freshness to the band - she has a beautiful clean voice as well as growls. The scenery in the video is of the Swiss Alps and a visit to those Alps is worth the dream of a lifetime - in real life they are toally breathtaking and are accompanied by typical Swiss well organized transport and accommodation, and efficient hospitality. Thank you for including Eluveitie in your repertoire. I also equate them to a certain extent with the Wagakki Band(already reviewed by you) from Japan which also play traditional instruments in very appealing music. They are two of my very favourite bands. I'm looking forward to your next videos - keep em coming! 🤘🇨🇦🇨🇭

Another Eluveitie reaction, thank you :o)! Through their development over the years this band has a lot of range. For instance they released two folk albums "Evocation I" and "Evocation II", both unplugged. Probably a lot of people would say you should react to "King" or "Inis Mona" and both are very good choices. Personally I would like to see a reaction to "Havoc" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn6Up2BmZahpd68 or "Helvetios" kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZnSpaRsa8hjm8U Both are also great songs from this band and are not so "chewed out" reaction-wise.

This song talks about the Helvetians forced migration to a befriended Celtic tribe on the Atlantic coast of Gallia (todays France) because the Roman Empire invaded their home territory. Another great song is "King", which is a lot heavier and with a great fiddle solo, also from before the line-up change in 2016. Anna doesn't sing in this (she is supporting Chrigel with the death metal screams) and Chrigel does the main singing. The "King"-video has captions with it, so you might activate them when you do a reaction to it. A good live performance is "Deathwalker" from Wacken 2019 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2i6e5ehmdCqqdE with Fabienne Erni (vocals, Celtic harp) and Michalina Malisz (hurdy gurdy). There is a 47 minute video from their live show at Summerbreeze 2008 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5rWZZKghJWZj5o with the "old" Line-up, but unfortunately the sound quality is not the best. I couldn't find one with better quality from that era. At that time Meri Tadic (fiddle, left the band in 2014) was still with the band. Not sure if you want to do a reaction to this or just watch it on your own (to get an impression of their repertoire which is in general heavier than "Call of the Montains"). In some songs Meri sang too, like in "Desumiis Luge" (a curse of Helvetian women against some Roman leaders) from their first acoustic album "Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion". Please don't forget to check out some of their acoustic stuff too sometime, to get the whole picture of the band. Because the acoustic folk sound is a part of Eluveitie too, not only the Death Metal part. Great ones are "Omnos" (from Evocation 1) with Anna Murphy or "Lugus" (from Evocation 2) with Fabienne Erni.
