I know this was three years ago so I am sure this isn't news but...Some of their songs are sung solely by the girl with the Hurdy Gurdy. Call of the Mountain is a great song that she sings. Her name is Anna Murphy. Anna, the drummer Merlin and the balding guitarist Ivo all left the band and started their own band Cellar Darling. Eluveitie still rocks though! I saw them live last year (2019) and am supposed to see them again this year but that may get postponed for obvious reasons. Great reaction! 😁

In case you'll read this -- I highly recommend to listen to an Eluveitie album as a whole. (In private, obviously. :-P) If you like bands bringing their own culture into their music, well, they put the history of the Celts into it (including Early Celtic text parts), for example the war of the Roman Empire in Gaul ("bellum gallicum"). If you listen to "Helvetios" as a whole, it gets fucking deep and sad, man. ^^
@SnoRider10147 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I just came across your youtube channel. Like it and enjoyed your commentary on the couple vids I've watched. elVAYtee...that's how it's pronounced. You should check out a few of their songs where they sing in ancient Gaulish (as opposed to modern Gaulish lol). Anyway, this is a great folk metal band. Unfortunately, several members, including the hurdy gurdy player, who does sing, split a while back, so I don't know how they'll be moving forward. When you mentioned the accordion, I started thinking of Korpiklani, but it looks like someone else suggested it. AND...now that Netta Skog has replaced Emmi in Ensiferum, they have an accordion player too :).

Did some research on the lyrics, this is what I've found. 1)I am the crown of Gallia...Ambicatus is my name There is an old Celtic legend dating to around the mid fifth century BCE which talks of a king by this name who is credited both with the founding of Milan and instigating the easward migrations of the celts into Norther Italy and eventually into Turkey. He was apparently the high king of the Gauls. Noting the political structure of the Celts during the time of the Romans (the earliest known written records of the enigmatic people) and their behavior under the leadership of Vercingetorix (arguably the closest thing to a "king" which the Gallic Celts had within written history), it is likely that this Ambicatus was a military leader not dissimilar to the afore mentioned general who headed up a powerful military alliance (a feat not unprecedented, as Vercigetorix for all intent and purposes did the same with what was left of Gaul during Caesar's conquests). 2)I am the oak in the nemeton...I am the will of our gods Nemetons (Gallic for Sacred Grove) were areas of Druidic spirituality. From what I found, they are areas of great natural power (in the druidic sense) where druids could more easily communicate with nature. furthermore, claiming the identity of the "oak in the Nemeton" simply is another way of saying that he is the king of kings, as oaks are often represented as being tantamount to royalty within the woods. Thus, being an oak within a nemeton means being the greatest that could ever be. This is further exemplified by the fourth line in the chorus, claiming to be the embodiment of the gods' will. 3)I am the servant of Atumnos' children I could find no sources talking about Atunmos directly, though I did find some which connected it etymologically with Annwn, the welsh "otherworld" or home of the gods, similar in concept to Olympus. This basically is just reinforcing the two lines surrounding this one, stating that this figure, Ambicatus, is the greatest king of the Celts. My sources for those wondering: 1)www.druidenwissen.ch/nemeton/?lang=en 2)www.ecoenchantments.co.uk/myogham_oakpage1.html 3)deomercurio.wordpress.com/tag/antumnos/ *and* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annwn

If you like this,you HAVE to check out the Scandinavian Bands FINTROLL,MOONSORROW and KORPIKLAANII.I SWEAR you love it !.....and :The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin.

The Hurdy Gurdy is an instrument that has been seen in varying forms historically as far east as southern china, as far west as maritime canada, and as far south as the northern coast of africa and the middle east. It probably owes its' inception to the middle east, but it's widest use has been in celtic music, possibly due to the influence of Maritime Canada's primarily Irish immigrant population when in the 1700s "celtic" music became something codified.

I recommend the band Finntroll. They are a big influence in the folk metal scene. Any other folk metal band who was formed after them, owe their folkish sound to them. They began doing black metal fusing folk elements and now they are more diverse. The songs are sung in Swedish, cuz it fits better with their themes (trolls and other legends). Check out the song "Solsagan", it's a raged folk/black/symphonic metal piece.
