I really like the hurdy gurdy and want one myself. Where do you buy a good one and what do they go for? Seems like they arn't really a common instrument, or cheap for that matter.

Depends on what you're aiming for, but they surely aren't cheap if you want quality. They resell for almost the same price, so if you're an absolute beginner, good gurdies start around 1000 euros, and good instruments for those that have been playing for a while go for between 1500 and 3000 euros. You can try googling the name of your city/state/province and 'hurdy- gurdy' or whatever it's called in the country you live in. The channel that gave me a lot of info about the gurdy and the motivation to find out where and how and how expensive was the channel of Patty Gurdy. Check her out and good luck on finding your gurdy! (I just emailed a group in the Netherlands where you can rent a gurdy and take gurdy lessons, so I'll be starting to learn how to play this quite soon!)

Is the trompette string what I always hear coming in at 0:45? I've never really known what that string sounding thing doing the "chugging" rhythm in the background is, the buzzing one.

+DeanMetalAngel666 The trompete strings are activated by releasing the string from a little hook or post, when you activate the string you get kind of a "persistant high drone" then if you crank harder you get the BUZZ, if you want to see how it works type "Hurdy Gurdy Without Words" here in youtube; there's a video that explains how it works. BTW Thanks for the videos helvetion, i'm learning britcom on my gurdy hearing your playing hehe!

You can always start googling to find a gurdy maker nar you (in the same city/state/province etc), or you can try and search on facebook for communities of gurdists. Beware though, before buying an instrument, always get an opinion from a professional. Quality will cost you something and because gurdies are rare and hand-made instruments, they aren't cheap.

salman kabir That really depends on many factors: have you ever played other instrument? How much time do you have? Do you cooperate with teacher or learn by yourself? How much of talent, but also persistence do you have? It's a complex thing. :)

+Francisco Javier Rodríguez García I've been playing for a year (with a teacher) and I'm not nearly as good as this girl! We might be focusing on different things though, my teacher mainly focuses on the coups (the rhythmical buzzing sound), not so much on fast melodies. Playing the keys is fairly straightforward so you will be able to play simple melodies pretty fast. Turning the crank is not too difficult either, you get the hang of it pretty quickly. The difficulty lies in the coups, and of course finger speed but that counts for a lot of instruments of course. Bear in mind that this is a high maintenance instrument: you need to learn how to put cotton on the strings, put rosin on the wheel, adjust the tangents if needed etc. There are a lot of small things that define the sound of the hurdy gurdy, and it takes time to get to know all these things.

Hi! I just record it separately. Generally, I firstly record sound, then video, then I put them together. But in some videos you can see my hand moving along the sound of chien, check "The Essence of Ashes" or "Luxtos". :)
