I'm so glad this song exists! My biological father was a bad guy, so my mom raised me by herself until I was 5. My mom met my step-dad, they got married, and in 2018, he adopted me. My dad showed me the "My Boy" version, and then I found the "My Girl" one. I am now learning it on guitar so I can play it when our adoption celebration comes around (March 30th!). Cool way of putting it. Love it. Met mine at 4. Mom and I were datinf then, and I remember we had plans for our 3rd date, involving the bike. Her father called last minute, to cancel visitation that afternoon, so she called to cancel. I told her to get both of them ready, changed, got to dog, and hopped into the car, and went to pick them up. Picked up lunch, had a picnic on the beach, one that allows dogs, and she and the dog played fetch in the lake (golden collie croos, that loved the water. And children. Watched her when mom was at work, and moved in together a year later. Married 4 years after that. My pnly regret was missing those first 4 years

My bio-daughter is 47+, and my husband (her Dad) has raised her with me since she was 5 1/2 years old and legally adopted her at 6 1/2 years old. As it turned out, we never had anymore children, but I know in my heart, mind and soul, that even if he had been blessed with children of his own, he would have still loved her, our daughter, he very same... as his own. My daughter had cancer at 20 and it left her unable to become pregnant so I always expected to not be a grandpa. It broke my heart to see how much my daughter wanted to be a mommy but would never be pregnant. At the beginning of 2023 my daughter had been cancer free 6 years so her and my son in law started the process of foster and hopefully adoption and on May 31st they received a call from the socialworker that a healthy 12 hour old baby girl was available to be adopted. Our little Stevie needed parents since her birth parents weren't ready and had signed away their rights. Within a few hours my daughter and son in law were in the hospital and stayed with our little girl untill they brought her home a couple days later. I am so thankful to the couple who did the right thing and used the Safe Harbor Law and safely surrendered that beautiful little girl to the hospital. The love and joy little Stevie has brought to my family is undescribable and she has made my family whole. I'm the proudest grandpa on the planet and would give my life in a second for that little girl the love I have for Stevie is so different than when me and my wife as teenagers had our daughter. I'm not saying I love my baby girl any less than my granddaughter but I guess as a teenager I hadn't matured yet. People say the love for grandchildren is different and that is so true. The love I have for that little girl is so powerful. It seems like my heart can't contain all the love I have for that little girl.

my step dad had me from 2 years old. After my mom and he divorced 53 years ago we kept our Dad / daughter relationship until he died June 26th 2019. He was anything a girl could wish for in a dad.

My father passed away before my son was born and also my daughter so they never got to meet him but I know that they would have loved him. I'm thankful for the great Father & Mother in-law they grew up with and my mama, they was/were the best as my wonderful Mother in-law and my mama both has been called Home 5 years ago and 4 days apart from each other but they did everything with both of my children who happened to be my in-laws first grand kids. My father in-law Ray Clark is still with us and we are truly thankful. My Boy & My Girl says a lot for those who are great step parents and Elvie sings/tells it better than anyone. Glad I caught you at the Opry last night....

I lost my dad when I was 8 and this great man that God bless my with mom with he became my dad he loves me and sister like his own that what a real dad his and I love him so much because my kids call him grandpa and I call him daddy because he love my mom he gave us a better life that a real dad
