Met my high school girlfriend when this song came out, played it on my Pioneer Supertuner 8-track tape deck in my 1968 Camaro when we went out. This was when music was MUSIC. Elvin Bishop's name was on this single...but without Mickey Thomas, this great song never becomes a CLASSIC...and THIS vocal performance ( including the female BGV) is an amazing example...and this guy sang like this EVERY NIGHT...he can STILL sing like this, and it's nearly 50 years later!

Elvin knew that. He was kicking it around for a year or more. He brought in Mickey as backing vocalist, when he needed another song for “Struttin’ My Stuff”, the producer suggested Fooled Around, but he could never make it work in his blues singer/guitarist style. He suggested Mickey take a stab at it, because he knew a tenor voice would work well with it. The result was pure magic.

If you are fortunate enough to call yourself a 'baby Boomer" like I was, we grew up listening to the greatest assortment of musical talent that any generation had the privilege to enjoy...and we saw them in person. The list of artist that have earned the title of 'legend' is long and incredible. From Woodstock to the Beatles to the Rolling Stones to Jackson Brown to the Eagles and so, so many more'. Our parents were often referred to as the 'Greatest Generation', well, we damn sure are the luckiest. Our playlist will never grow old or die....who are your favorites?

We fooled around listening to this awesome song and music. We truly FELL IN LOVE and got married. It was fate. Last night, I heard our song by Elvin Bishop. Again, tonight, and it made me think so strongly of my love, my husband in heaven. I was just awakened again with this music playing I FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE by Elvin Bishop. I lost my husband my love in 1996 here it is now, 2024 and I've heard the song Twice in the past 24 hours that tells me he is my angel in heaven and he is sending me a message to remind me we fooled around and fell in love.💜💛🤍😇 now it is okay for me to move on

Golden? More like UNOBTANIUM, nowadays people think Taylor Swift is vocal excellence. Even though Adele or Beth Hart can blow her out of the water. I worked for a radio station in '85 and got to hear Ann Wilson warm up before a Heart show, she shook the walls, concrete, and unplugged!! Her sister Nancy apologized and said Ann was under the weather, lol. I was 12' away and my chair was shaking ffs!! If that was under the weather, I'd be scared to hear her that close when she was on point and one hundred percent.

When I was 15, living on my own in Madrid Spain in 1967, I had a little plastic record player. I had 4 LP records that I played over and over, while learning the guitar leads. Paul Butterfield was one. Mike Bloomfield was the main guy, but Elvin was in that band, probably the youngest guy there. So, in a way, Bloomfield and Bishop taught me blues licks on the guitar. This song came around years later, but it's one of the best written and sung songs in R&R history.

I was thinking about this. It is one of the most killer blues based vocals. I alway liked Edgar Winters “Dying to Live” from White Trash, too. Greatest in Rock? I dunno, that’s subjective you have Steven Perry what made it look easy; Greg Lake and Jon Anderson in Prog Rock. Man, too many singers in too many categories. Start naming them only to realize the ones you’re forgetting. What do you do with McCartney; Roderick David Stewart? I think Gilmour and Waters did great vocals, but there was so much to Floyd. Then you start thinking about black Yanks and… well it staggers the mind! But thanks for bringing it up!
