God. I forgot how good Sonny Fortune is. I haven't heard him in years. Definitely one of the most underrated sax players in jazz. I saw him live in 1972. Freaking great. They all are!

Sonny's playing is irresistible, Everytime he plays he takes you to the spirit world of ancestors, magical fantasy and unchained joy. Bravo to him and to the other great spirits on this session. Sonny, I'l see you when I get there and we can hang out and visit the other cats like we used to when we were confined to world of the tangible.

Who could rock a white jacket and bow tie like Elvin? They’re all great but it’s frightening to think that three of the guys up there changed their instruments for all to follow. Two of them flat revolutionized them (McCoy and Elvin) and Freddie pretty much. I once heard Freddie say in an interview that Elvin was his favorite musician.

It is such a thrill to hear F. Hubbard playing with Elvin (and McCoy, of course)! That's a super change from Hubbard's playing with Tony Williams (and H. Hancock)! Miles and Trane schools! Both great!

Just, great... such a great find. One of my favorite Trane tunes, too.

Thanks for this beautiful video! Old lyons of jazz at their best. Also beautiful close ups of faces.

It just hit me; Elvin plays the "wrong" accents, and they suddenly become the best accents imaginable!

@Andres Moreno and the always-amazing Sonny Fortune on the tenor sax - for him, a tentative solo start but now at 4:00 mins the man is flowing

No face time for the bass, unfortunately. I didn't see one single shot of him. Very enjoyable video nonetheless. Giants at, or near, the height of their considerable powers. Thanks so much for posting.
