Elvin Jones - drums; Dave Liebman and Steve Grossman - saxes; Gene Perla - bass; France 1973, stretching out on a Dave Liebman original... Thanx to Dan Adler and Kenneth Myron Venezia for the correct title information

I went to see them with these Scottish guys at the Teatro Municipal in Viña del Mar in Chile. I was 15 and grounded, so I escaped through the window and caught the bus to the city. When I got home I copped a hiding, but boy, was it worth it!

@@ethiopianmusicoldies599 yep, two brothers that were travelling around South America. They stopped in my town and hung around with my group of friends. They told me they were going to see the Elvin Jones Quartet. I had seen EJ in the movie Zachariah before, so I tagged along. After a few weeks they continued with their travels. and never heard from them again.

@@elausraliano if they got you to see Elvin Jones - it means that they were divinely sent to you.

Saw this line-up in Toronto- Grossman stubbed his toe on my bandmates tenor case sticking out of the corner of the table- looked down (at us kids then) and said " Who do you dig man- Sonny or Trane?"

Saw them in Viña del Mar, Chile, at the Teatro Municipal, in 1972. At the time I was 14 and was grounded, but I already had my ticket, so I escaped through a window and got the bus and made it to the concert. On my return tough, I got a good old thrashing, but it was well and truly worth it!

That is not SOULTRANE> I think that's BRIGHT PEACE. If you want to hear SOULTRANE, listen to the album or CD MR. JONES. Just trio, where Elvin, Grossman, and Perla tear that shit up. Grossman is 22 yrs old and already an Icon. He's SOO great, I Iove him and hate him at the same time. Bert Wilson told me Grossman sat in at 16 and by that time, he was all ready a mature Pro. I studied WITH Grossman in the 80's. when I wanted to play something by Trane, Breaker, Liebs, and was having trouble, he would listen to it once and know it, play it, no problem. A TRUE PRODIGY

Dan Adler Well I knew it wasn't Soultrane - but I didn't know what the proper title was. Thanx for the info.. Incidentally I saw this quartet at Ronnie Scotts in London and I have to say it was one of the most convincing, committed, live events I've ever heard - Bob
