This is a case that should be retried.....how does one party in an offense committed by three parties get the ultimate punishment? Girl's Father....How did his daughter have a phone yet she was underage (one needs to be above 18 to have a registered line/phone Girl..... She lied to Elvis about her age. 😳😳😳😳😳 Am am boy child and I really advocate for boychildren to be judged fairly and accorded fair hearing. Thus being said, the law is loud and clear that ignorance is no defense and here, Mr. Elvis was guilty of having carnal knowledge with an underage girl. His plea that he didn't know is no defense and as such, he was convicted. He was accorded some leniency in being sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime. It is unfortunate but the law is always harsh in order to deter others from doing so. If he was let's say 18-19 years old then it could have been something else but he was above 20. Now, last month, I happened to have met a fine lady during my nature walk and we hit it off very well, and after hours of talking, I asked her her age and she blushed it off that she was all grown up and that she had cleared High school(State House Girls) and hence her own woman. I insisted that she tells me her actual date of birth and it turned out to be in the danger zone, she is to turn 18 years next month and it was such a relief that I dodged a jail sentence if had proceeded to date and have carnal knowledge with a minor. I just told her that we can only speak again in April and she must have at least a waiting card if not an ID. We must always verify before some of these things to avoid any and all loopholes that can send us to prison.
