One of the best songs ever - vintage Costello, in the same league with Joe Jackson and his brilliant song 'It's Different for Girls'

With Morrissey a close second or equal. It's a coin toss. But absolutely, Elvis has a poetic catalogue which is unmatched. Both beyond McCartney and Lennon. It's controversial I know but just read both of their prodigious works. Album upon album of excellence, and both still going.

"But you know you have been captured You feel so civilized And you look so pretty in your new lace sleeves" My girlfriend bought me the "Trust" LP in 1981, but I didn't 100% bond with it except for this song. She later broke up with me and a couple of years after, ended up marrying a guy with a lot of money. Big white wedding, lavish do, etc etc. I watched her leave her parents house for the church in a white Rolls Royce sobbing my heart out. I played this song endlessly for weeks and when I listen to it now it feels like he had a direct portal into my brain. Maybe he did. I now love the entire album and often sink a bottle of red with headphones on, just marvelling at the genius of the man. The marriage lasted about 3 years... Thanks EC 😭

This is one of my very favorite tracks by EC & A’s. I have seen this performed live twice, solo on the 1989 “Spike” tour, and in 1994 “Brutal Youth” tour. (Not with Burt B’, yet that would have been grand, or with Steve an’ -other was at a Tower records in Chicago.) Great lyrics, and the Attractions all groove. When I was in college (‘87-91) i sticky tacked the vinyl album of “Trust” on my dorm wall, so cool 😎🎸

Every day, I look, and there's a new Elvis Costello recommended video on the You Tube home page. Yeah, I've heard them all, but maybe not for a few years. So, I open it up - just to remind myself, you understand - and everytime I do, I hear a classic that sounds sooo recognisable yet soooo fresh. Classy, twisted, poppy, yet sophisticated with none of the over-egged sonic crassness. A lyrical scaple toys with and teases your sensibilities. Bloody joyful

Declan Patrick MacManus (born 25 August 1954),[6] better known by his stage name Elvis Costello, is an English musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He began his career as part of London's pub rock scene in the early 1970s and later became associated with the first wave of the British punk and new wave movement that emerged in the mid-to-late 1970s.[7][8] His critically acclaimed debut album, My Aim Is True, was released in 1977. Shortly after recording it, he formed the Attractions as his backing band. His second album, This Year's Model, was released in 1978, and was ranked number 11 by Rolling Stone on its list of the best albums from 1967-1987. His third album, Armed Forces, was released in 1979, and features his highest-charting single "Oliver's Army" (#2 in the UK). His first three albums all appeared on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
