I still scratch my head as to why Porsche decided to use cheaper materials for the cylinder walls. Clearly, they knew it was sub standard by using better stuff in the gt cars.

Porsche was on its knees when it designed that engine so it produced a bit of a lemon. The ones following it were a lot better for reliability.
