The audio is Elvis and his band rehearsing for MGM on July 15, 1970 during the time he was filming his 1970 rockumentary film Elvis: Thats The Way It is, the video is an edit of different rehearsal outtakes that didn’t make the cut so it’s not the real film of Elvis singing this song but a very clever edit

This just shows you that this man could sing anything it make it his own. I bet Elvis singing the phone book would be great. Look at the artist today, so much of it is studio enhanced and when it comes to singing live they can't. God this man was SO TALENTED. The best their ever was!

Stan Jones wrote it in 1948. More than 50 different artists have recorded versions of it...including Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby, Marty Robbins and Spike Jones. Being a lifelong Elvis fan I wish that he had released a version of it.

I heard this on the Elvis channel on someone's satellite radio yesterday and was blown away. From the sound and tone I was expecting a very long epic song a` la "Hey Jude" but nonetheless was impressed with the energy. I love the Beatles and after having listened to Elvis recently feel that he too is super versatile and deserves a look. In the end, despite being a life long Beatles fan, there is only one King of Rock n Roll and after having experienced Elvis for the first time the last few months I know who that figure rightfully is. Very moving, haunting piece. Both calming and exciting, soothing, lilting but above all, haunting. Thank you for posting.

@Bloodpool: Johnny Cash couldn't sing to save his life. His singing was just talking in a deep voice. Singing is a tremendous skill that is independent of the ability to write lyrics or compose music. You can't replace one with another. The reason you can't sing any song as deep as you want is that you have to sing it as its written. If you listen to the original (Burl Ives) you'll see there's a wide range of notes from low to pretty high. Johnny Cash only really attempts the lowest notes cos he knows he'll go miles out if he tries to sing anything higher. Elvis was one of the very best white singers the Western world has ever seen, even better than Sinatra. You can't compare amateurs with the best professionals. Cash was an amateur at best. In this recording there was clearly something wrong with Elvis' mic. I've never heard sound quality as poor as this. It's like you can't even hear his voice or tell he's there without the picture showing you.

The audio is from a real jam session, which was for fun only; and then it was married to re-edited rehearsal footage from the That's The Way It Is documentary. Most of the moves and sounds don't match up. The main thing is that the tempos are matched up.
@RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia
@RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia 4 жыл бұрын
They don't match up at all. Everybody's fingers are in the wrong places on their guitars. And then you see Elvis playing, but before that you don't. Nice try, but this is audio-only.

Elvis DID sing this song with Cash! In June of 1969, in an old 'Watering Hole' in Cordova, Tennessee. He (Elvis) was still trying to 'rekindle' his courage to appear again, and had the upcoming International Hotel in Vegas show in August, 1969, and he was terrified with fear that the fans would not accept the now 34 year old rocker! So, he contacted MANY of his friends, and did 'juke joint' gigs to gather up his courage. OBVIOUSLY, it worked! And the rest, as they say, is history!
