Elvis Movie Review

This movie caught my attention when I saw the preview for it it Doctor Strange 2. Elvis has always been a big part of my life and when it came to this movie, I really wanted it to be good, and I'm so glad it was. Please, if you're a fan of Elvis or even if you're just interested, go and see it, it's very much worth it.

I am 76 and I don't recall ever hearing Col. Parker talk, but by the time he met Elvis he had been trying to hide any accent of evidence of ever being in Holland or anywhere else for close to 30 years. I think they needed Tom Hanks to look as much like him as possible because Tom Hanks as Tom Hanks being that nasty would have been more unbelieveable.

Hank Snow hated Parker. He talked Gladys Presley into signing the contract, but it was with Hank and Parker. When Snow realized what Parker was doing to all of them he tried to help Elvis get out of the contract with both of them, but Parker had actually had them sign 2 contracts that day.

I am from Texas and have been doing research on old newspaper clippings about Elvis and I am almost finished with 1956, so far. The race part was much worse in the deep south, but in Texas the Satanic, immoral stuff was very big. I had a preacher who had a bon fire to burn everything Elvis. He went from being described as strange, different and wiggly to demon possessed in Apr 1956 after the Milton Berle show. The funniest thing was before he was in the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fair in Oct, 1956 they were calling him "The Gymnastic Vocalist". His drummer got thrown in the Orchestra pit by a mob of girls in Kansas City, which maybe where the drummer going off the stage at Russwood came from. They couldn't do every show where there was crap going on. The wiggling of the finger came from a show in Florida where a judge said he could move side to side, but not back to front. There is a video of him using his thumb and in the first sitdown part of the 1968 Comeback he talks about it and uses his pinkie finger and sings a little of "Hound Dog" like Austin does at Russwood and there was a riot at Russwood you can tell by the headlines. The part with the RCA stuffed dog happened in LA and it was worse than in this movie and he was nearly banned from LA. .

There is a lot of stuff on-line and several books about Parker and he was much worse than portrayed here. Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller wrote all of Elvis’s early songs including “Jailhouse Rock”, “Love Me” and “Hound Dog”. They made the mistake of suggesting something to Elvis without going through Parker and he fired them and then tried to get them back and they refused. In fact Parker didn't even like for Elvis to meet the composers and he never met Otis Blackwell who wrote Don't be Cruel. Priscilla, Jerry Schilling and other have said Parker was charming and buying birthday cards and stuff, but that is what conmen do. If they didn't appear charming they would never pull of the con. The comment Priscilla makes to Elvis about him being covered with ten feet of snow if he talked to Parker in person is true. She said he did not like being confrontational and if he had a problem with Parker he would send someone else because every time Parker would make him feel guilty or something else and get his own way. .
