Elvis recorded this song a couple months after Priscilla left him. He actually told her in person that this was for her. They loved each other until the day he died. Elvis also recorded "I miss you", a song about Priscilla written for Elvis by one of his close friends.

All of singing was done without an auto tone. That's why he is the King of 🎸🎸🎸 rock and roll. He was never out of time or pitchy. The best of the best. And that's why he is loved and miss so much. I'm so happy some of the younger generation is liking his singing like we do. God bless and welcome to the worldwide Elvis fan club.😊😊😊😊😊

Love to see your smile light up as you listen to our dear friend! No disrespect to the great Willie Nelson, but Elvis makes this song his own ,(as he has done with so many others)! Knowing his humility, I believe he means it as a tribute to the original artists! You too are our dear friend & we appreciate your awesome reactions! May you be blessed!

Wow! You didn't even have to say a word to see the powerful impact that song had on you. It seemed as though you didn't want the song to end! Elvis's voice & the way he influenced a song was his greatest gift. There is till no other like him. A blessing taken way to soon. You MUST hear his version of How Great thou art. It will bring you to tears.

So pleased you are back with another Elvis reaction. Missed you. You seem such a sensitive, caring and respectful young man who appears to appreciate the voice of Elvis. Hope you do more - lots to choose from. A few of my favourites ‘The Fair’s Moving On’, ‘Suspicion’ - ‘Surrender’ - ‘Fame and Fortune’ - ‘There’s Always Me’ could go on listing lots more but that’s a start.

Love Elvis, but I gotta say...I ADORE Willie Nelson's version of this song. He wrote it, too, and his version is my favorite.
@laural.enright47805 жыл бұрын
The saddest thing about Elvis is that there so much more there than eventually he was given credit for. Unfortunately, he became a bit of a bit of a parody of himself, very commercial, so it became hard to see the genius of his work.
@laural.enright47805 жыл бұрын
@vanstar I think it was partly the difference in managership. Col. Tom did a lot of things to help further Elvis' career, but he also did a lot that hurt it. Like that three picture a year movie deal. Those first five movies or so were fantastic, but then the rest were just spit out, including the music (which often wasn't very good and while he gave them his all, it just became stereotypical. He really became a brand. Also, the Beatles had four people they could draw support from whether in business or creatively. Elvis only had himself. It's a shame

With the famous live, in-studio video, this official vocal take was overdubbed with the Philharmonic several years back... However, its the 1972 mastered single which is best, with the overdubbed guitars, no strings, which this plaintive song does not require... Again, RCA dropped the ball not pushing it as a big single for Presley, they not knowing how to promote a 50's icon still great (& gorgeous) in the early 70's... Criminal misstep!

Have you discovered the astonishing Angelina Jordan yet, the girl who started singing jazz while still in her cradle, & won Norway's Got Talent at age eight? I could suggest many of her covers from age seven 'til now, as well as her three original songs, but for the moment, I'll just suggest you react to her quiet, heartfelt version of this Elvis song that she sang in memory of her grandfather who passed away recently. Amazing does not adequately describe this girl's voice & range. You will love her more & more if you listen to her.

The Willie Nelson version (recorded later) is often on lists of the greatest county songs of all time. And I agree - as it's perhaps my favorite. The Elvis version is good - but I think Willie's is more iconic now. It's a classic.

just for comparison - do this same song by Willie Nelson - much more emotional and less produced - really gets to the essence of this song. Love the King, but on this song, the Red-Headed Stranger did it best.

The song was written by Willie Nelson. Willie's version is stripped down and intimate; the Elvis version has everything including the kitchen sing. Too many bells and whistles for my taste.

Nelson Didn't write this song, he wrote a lot of GREAT songs, but not this one, And I personally prefer Elvis's version. Nelson's version is right for sitting on a bar stool crying in a beer, Elvis's version is right for moving a woman's heart. ( In my humble opinion.)
