This is Elvis’ band consisting of Ronnie Tutt on drums, James Burton on guitar, John Wilkinson on guitar, Jerry Sceff on bass. Sweet Inspirations his backup girls. JD Sumner with the bass, and his quartet. Awesome group!

I love seeing young people like you appreciate how amazing Elvis was... he gave everything into his music.. The passion, the Voice, the heart.. just incredible. I'm 2nd generation loving Elvis and I've raised my kids (3rd generation) to love him too. My Mom was 1st generation and she's 82 now and she's in a nursing facility.. but twice a week I take her out and have Elvis on Sirius Radio for her.. It makes her so happy.

What a lovely thing to do for your mom. I'm also 82 and that would be so cool if I were somewhere I couldn't listen to Elvis whenever I want to

That back up group was his regular gospel quartet JD, Sumner and The Stamps. JD Sumner was the bass singer.

This concert was seen by 1.75 BILLION PEOPLE back in the early 1970s, making it the most watched TV programing in world history. Can you imagine how many people have seen it by now.... in 2024?!

Whew that’s a lot of people and that’s such an accomplishment especially since I don’t think TVs were in every household back then. I could be mistaken but if that’s the case it’s even more impressive!

This song could be played as the national anthem or even at a funeral. The lyrics were delivered to perfection by Presley and his assembled orchestra that evening. There is noone today that could capture what Elvis did there on that night..

It is a pleasure watching the way you react to Elvis' songs/performances. Thank you.

Trilogy is a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie are the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian (people of the Bahamas) lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s. This was a charity concert for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund & raised &75,000. Elvis bought his own ticket for $1,000. It is said that there were approx. 8,800 people in the audience.

That’s JD Sumner and the Stamps. JD Sumner was a bass singer who for 18 years held the Guinness World Record for the lowest bass note. JD Sumner appears on the Gaither Homecoming video series. My favourite Elvis Presley song is ‘Without Him’. The sing Without Him is my theme song. It describes my life.

I could be wrong about this.. but I know Richard Sterban sang bass for many years with Elvis and I think he was the bass singer in this concert.. He went on to be with the Oak Ridge Boys.

Thats the stamps quartet and jd sumner with that deep voice 😊❤...cant get any better than Elvis in my opinion 😊🔥❤❤❤❤

Your "Wow!s'" express it superbly. The 3 songs relate to the American Civil War: Dixie (for the South), Bahamian lullaby (for the slaves), and Battle Hymn of the Republic for the North. We used to sing Dixie in school along with God Bless America and other patriotic songs.
