Jane H commenting ….. Elvis was a very spiritual man. This is a tremendous performance, going out across the world via satellite …. The very first time this had ever been done. I live in New Zealand & I remember watching the Aloha from Hawaii concert, which this is from. He was just Incredible. When he’s singing this, I find it so hard to think that in four short years, Elvis Presley will be gone & the world will have lost the greatest singer & performer it has had the privilege of knowing. There will never be another Elvis, & 47 years after his death at age 42, we are still getting so much pleasure out of his performances. Thank you for your Reaction. I was crying …. Elvis was such a wonderful singer and entertainer ! Gifted by our Lord above! I won't go so far to say that he always use his platform for the glory of God! But I will say his voice is that of an angel ! I grew up as a young child on his music because my parents listen to it! He died when I was only a few years old ! Thank you for sharing your reaction! I was only in 3rd grade but I still remember it like it was yesterday. We lost such a great. 😢. The reason he sweats so much is his outfits weighed a little over 100lbs. Thanks friend!

Dixie is a song about the southern states and was the unofficial anthem of the confederate states during the Civil War in the 1860s. The other part is from The Battle Hymn of the Republic and was the unofficial anthem of the northern United States during the Civil War. I’m not sure where the “hush little baby” part comes from. But it alludes to daddy going off to war and is bound to die.

'All my trials' is a song from the Bahamas....sung as a gospel song in churches from before the civil war. Had the Confederacy survived northern aggression it would have included Caribbean plantation cultures.

You mention the backup singers, The Stamps, with their super low bass singer JD Sumner... PLEASE, if you want to learn more about their capacity and Elvis personality, listen to a song they sing without Elvis, called "Sweet Sweet Spirit" I'm not that much of a fan of the song itself, but the harmony these guys sings with is incredible. And it's amazing to watch Elvis, The King, standing there in total admiration - at times almost as in a trance, listening to them. Elvis was not only the greatest, he was also the humblest!

Elvis pulled up behind me stopped at a Stop Light in 1975 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was playing a concert that night that I was unaware of (2 years before he passed away). I was in the backseat and I heard some yelling and people with signs came running out of a alley followed by a white Cadillac that pulled in behind us waiting for the light to change. Elvis was in the backseat with people on either side of him and I was so shocked that he just stared at me and I just stared at him. I always regretted not waving at him.

Meaning of this song Trilogy: a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie means the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s. He is perspiring -- the jumpsuit is very warm plus the mega hot house lights & stage lights.

I truly believe God put him here as a joyful experience. It is no accident that he is the number one singer of all time in gospel all over the world.
