My wife and I watched his Elvis tv special when it aired in 73. That was the first time I heard the American Trilogy, I cried. I have heard this 100 times since and still cry. I am a Vietnam Veteran. Maybe it touches a veteran different, I don't know, but when I hear this American history fills my minds, all the struggles and victories.

@hockemyer thank you for your service and wishing you and yours a year filled with laughter..I am 74yrs old was I guess "a hippe" on the East Coast, I say that because no we didn't hand out flowers etc, we just sang in the park and by the year 73 in July had my one and only son..2 grandsons now, and yes, it was a hard time for you all in Vietnam, a whole different war, ::sigh:: I want you to know my mother and I attended a Veteran's day parade & it was the first that Vietnam vets were part of it and we made a conscious vocal of applauding and hopefully supportive words of being proud. As a kid parades were for fun though we had a huge flag on certain holidays..etc, I'm am happy to be replying to you & probably yes you have your individual feelings, hopefully not to brush away the struggles, they make the victories brighter. Like cloudy days & the sun comes out. ~ sending my best for this year of 2023 you and yours have more laughter, hugs & love. ~ 💞💫💞

He's crying as well & sweating b/c he puts his ALL in every performance he does! There is NOBODY like Elvis, he had it ALL & was VERY humble til the day he died. Elvis makes you feel his music b/c he's so passionate when he performs. I was 7 yrs old when my WHOLE family watched this concert, my mom who just ADORED & LOVED Elvis so much had 2 beautiful paintings of him hanging in our den. RIP Elvis we love & miss you.

So many bloggers think Elvis is crying, when in fact, he was just sweating. The man was working hard usually in his shows and either nervous or it was just damn hot inside the auditorium.

It's amazing that the women can see his tears. The men are saying it's sweat. Well, there were at least 2 men that saw his tears. But no matter what song he sings, it brings up some kind of emotion inside of you. That is one of the many things that I admire in Elvis. Being a man and not afraid or ashamed to cry in front of anyone. Seeing a man cry makes me cry.

I have said it many times. Elvis was not the King of Rock and Roll. He was the God of Music. Elvis mastered so many genres that calling him King of one genre would be to minimize his contribution to others such as gospel, rockabilly, pop, country, R&B, etc. Kings reside on Earth anyway. Elvis Presley was quite simply the God of Music. The most iconic and influential entertainer of the 20th century and any other century that follows. With over a billion records sold, his influence continues to rise with every generation. I was 12 when he died. I don't remember him much, but I do remember the country standing still the day he died.

He was not crying -- it's a lot of perspiration -- the jumpsuit is very hot & the stage lights are super hot; you can see it coming down from his forehead underneath his hair; i can see you perspiring also. The meaning of the song is a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie means the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” (a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War); and “All My Trials,” (a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950's). You closed your eyes & missed the closeup expression on his face right after the flute. A Suggestion -- when watching Elvis you can't close your eyes -- you never know what he's going to do & you'll miss it. Btw, he started wearing other colors later on. Thank you for your reaction.

3 things he had his beautiful handsome face his name Elvis Presley and most of all his great incredible powerful voice some of his songs cut deep in my heart that I cry listening Elvis is the greatest singer that ever lived how famous was he? Led zeppelin John Lennon jimmy Hendrix Elton John Cher BB King nail Diamond little Richard chuck berry and many many more singers and groups saw him in concert many movie stars saw him in concert many government people half million people visit his home each year there's only two that have done world wide live TV Elvis 73 concert 1:6 billion people world wide live the other the Beatles 1970 rooftop world wide live concert 600 million people saw them the Beatles 20 number one hits Elvis 18 number 1 hits in USA but in Europe the Beatles 17 number one hits Elvis 21 number one hits Beatles 178 million albums Elvis 159 million albums but from 1954 to 1964 Elvis sold 500 million records because his manager wanted it that way? The Beatles sergeant hearts club band album with all the faces on it they asked John Lennon why Elvis face was not on the Album? John Lennon said the other 3 agreed not to put his face because he was to famous Elvis was a humble man he said fats damino is king of rock and roll but Elvis also said Jesus Christ is king of kings I've been watching TV for over 50 years and Elvis is still selling records on TV why ? Over 200 famous people have visited his home Opera singer Pavarotti said he wishes he had his voice Elvis still sells 2 million albums each year there's alot of information on Elvis like many famous people it's called what they said about Elvis app ? Yes there's many singers and groups that do stadiums hundreds of thousands of people? Iam waiting for one singer or group to take this challenge going live world wide??? Enough said 👍👍👍🌟🙏🌟

This trilogy was "written" by Micky Newbury. He's was the best songwriter that you've never heard of. I read this song as a statement on how devastating war can be. The war depicted here is the American civil war in my opinion. Do yourself a favor and look up some of Micky's songs, any of his songs.
