Elvis Presley and Ann Margret - You're The Boss - From First Take To The Master

The original concept was that within Elvis' 1963 movie "Viva Las Vegas" there would be four songs featuring Elvis' sultry co-star Ann Margret, consisting of two solos and two duets but by the time the final screenplay was drafted both duets had been dropped. On of the songs intended as a duet, "Today,Tomorrow and Forever" would however be included as an Elvis solo rendition.
The other "dropped" duet however was dropped more likely because of it's risque, double entendre filled lyrics which just sizzled with the chemistry between the movies two main stars. So close to the line was the song considered that it did not even appear on any Elvis albums until 1993 and the release of the movie soundtrack on RCA's Double Features series of Elvis' soundtrack Compact Discs.
In August 2018, RCA/Sony through their Elvis collectors label, Follow That Dream, released what should have been the undisputed definitive Viva Las Vegas sessions collection. As per normal for such a release, evident in other similar releases such as Fun In Acapulco and Kid Galahad, an attempt was made to remix and remaster the tracks from scratch. However, may have their doubts about the success of this venture, primarily down to the original process in which MGM made their soundtrack recordings and also because much of the studio dialogue is also missing. It is from this collection, however, that the audio for this video has been sourced.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

Really can't blame EP, mouth dropping beautiful and really met his match. So much through Ann Margaret was allegedly stealing the movie's scenes from EP even through it was his movie and Colonel Parker was pissed. There was suppose to be a total of three duets between the pair but Parker demanded the producers cut the duets to two, I wonder why?? 😂😂

Jumping in late on this but after finding this insane duet it was something I couldn’t ignore. In the history of cinematic history there has never been such a steamy couple. This song, had it remained, would have pushed the boundaries of that time. Having said that, I couldn’t help but notice so many comments that give the edge to Ann. I disagree. It’s Elvis that inserts bluesy moans that translates to “he’s got it bad”. He also, holds back so their creamy vocals are matched. Viva Las Vegas is also a tough watch for me, since long before the internet divulged the inside scoop on this film, I felt every scene had been shot to Ann Margaret’s great advantage. She is a big talent, and in my opinion the story would have been so much more, well everything, had Elvis not been required to play her dupe. I’m left wondering why her character would fall for his. It’s my understanding that director George Sidney was so taken with Ann that he consciously or unconsciously centered the film around her. This might be one of those times when Colonel Parker earned his money when he interceded. God knows that Elvis wasn’t going to.

Ann Margaret admitted in her autobiography that she had an ego in Viva las Vegas, no doubt Elvis also. But that is what makes the film so entertaining. Really, for the first time in his career, Elvis had met someone who could really match him for charisma and talent. That is not anyone's fault. In fact, secretly, I bet it was a relief for EP, and on the surface, he didn't seem to mind 😉. Hence why Ann and Elvis had incredibly strong chemistry on screen and off.
