When I mentioned these guys as one of the best bands of the era in the '80s a lot of folks looked at me like I had three eyes or something. They've not gotten any better, but music in general has gotten really bad since. They probably couldn't get a deal today, they're too original. Classic sound and superb songwriting never gets old.

I was reading the comments and seen you grew up in Carteret I was wondering if you knew my uncle Frankie or my father Jimmy, if not at least I gave it a shot in the dark but my uncle Frankie used to practice guitar with Babjack way back , anyway like I said either way it's a shot

And on the 7th day God got tired of lisenting to crap I mean rap ((which was coming out of the national sphincter about the ssme time these guys were doing there magic) sat down and burned a fatty and created The Smithereens. These never quite got the acknowledgment or respect they deserved, although the album 11 did go gold with over 500,000 copys being sold. We miss you Pat and the creative genius that WAS The Smithereens. I never got to see you guys live but listen to your guys music almost every day and speaking of God isn't lisenting to The Smithereens a cure to exercising all of of lifes demons. I know its in their. I think its in the chapter called : If you don't believe what I believe your all gonna burn in hell.. I think its time to take another hit off the pipe here and crank up The Smithereens.

SIMPLY FIERCE! My favorite song by my favorite band! I agree with anyone (from New Jersey as I am or otherwise) who says that Pat DiNizio blows Bruce Springsteen out of the water. I could not agree with that more! My #2 Smithereens fave is Top Of The Pops.

Goodbye, Pat. I hope you never felt underappreciated. Smithereens should've been more widely known, in my opinion. And they should still be. Great deep cut, for those of us who chase that sort of stuff, too.
@timford35993 жыл бұрын
@George Trapp All of the boys were WAY underappreciated and NEVER got their due. It's too bad because IMO Jim Babjak is one of the most notable guitarists of that whole "Garage/Grunge/Rock 'N Roll" era and yet they were the unassuming "Bar Band" not quite pretty enough to gather wide spread acclaim like, say-Bruce. I love 'em more than Bon Jivey, Bruce etc. RIP Pat...

Depends what you define as a 'hit' -- A Girl Like You made it to 38 on the billboard charts and that was the highest position of any of their singles. Only one of their albums even broke the Top 50 ('11' reached the heady heights of no:41 in 1989). A tremendous band but really only very limited success sales wise.
