Elvis Presley arrives at Lambert Field in St. Louis to throngs of adoring fans on June 28, 1973. Presley would play before a capacity crowd at the Kiel Auditorium later that night. KSDK reporter Max Roby talked with some of the fans.

Many, many thanks for these great shots. I've been an Elvis fan since 1976 and I always think that after all these many years I've seen all of Elvis Presley. But I keep seeing and reading "new" material about Elvis. There seems to be no end. And this despite the fact that Elvis Presley's career was only 22 years old because of his early death. Yes, I am always amazed that there is so much material about Elvis Presley. Elvis' career only lasted 22 years because he died young. And then there was no such media as there are today, and no mobile phones either. Ever since 1976, I've been discovering new material about Elvis over and over again. he was king in everything.

It doesn't seem like local news stations care much these days when a big name comes into town for a concert. I don't recall in recent years them mentioning concerts much let alone going to the airport or hotel to cover their arrival. And keep in mind, Elvis in 1973, while still a big name, wasn't at the peak of his popularity then. Elton John, Rolling Stones, Jackson 5... probably all bigger names at the time.

The reason Elvis got in the car and just continued on with nothing more then a wave, is because of that guy with the m,phone. He was rude, telling and obliging Elvis to stay and chat and sign, because they have been waiting twenty minutes, if he didn't say that Elvis would have chatted and sign, that guy ruined it.
