This is a classic Elvis song! He didn’t need a guitar to set the world on fire! 🔥 ❤. Love this song as he performs it in the 68 comeback special!

Everything is on fire in this song. The accoustic guitar, Elvis voice, the sound. I think big boss man is even better.

When Elvis did the song, he requested to get the original guitar player, Jerry Reed to play on it, a great move, and so he called up Jerry on a fishing trip, he came down in his fisherman attire, and came down to play the song for Elvis.

He went down I 55 to New Orleans, on the Gulf of Mexico, about 400 miles, then East on I 10 to Mobile, Alabama (not far) on the Gulf. What fun it would be to find Jack's place and see Elvis heading that 5 piece band. I would have stayed there and never left.😂 He brought Jerry Reed in to record this because he couldn’t replicate the guitar licks on the original. When Jerry met Elvis he said, "Damn, that was the only time I ever wished I was a girl. He was the most handsome man I ever saw"! Great reaction, Seph. You hear everything and makes me go back to hear it, too!!❤❤❤

Groovy and unique. ❤ Loosely the story of Elvis' career. He actually makes me believe he lived the lyrics! Due to his lean spell it didn't get enough air play, though. 😌

Good one. When this song comes up again - don't skip it. You listen to granny now, ya hear?😄😁 Song written by Jerry Reed in 1967. Jerry Reed is a great country singer and pretty good song writer who wrote a few songs for Elvis. U.S. Male was one.

The Elvis showing what he's made of, when he is in the recording studio and can pick his own songs. Great picture of young Elvis. It's a really groovy rock'n roll song. Imagine him picking his own movie songs...

There is a short video on FB of Jerry Reed telling the story of them finding him fishing, begged him to come in for the song as no one else was able to make the right sound. He is talking to someone off camera as he reminisces & says he walked into the studio, saw Elvis & said "you're the best lookin' man I've ever seen. Kinda makes me wish I was a girl." He said Elvis just laughed.

This is his early recording, but wait till you see the opening number to the 68 comeback special it is absolutely a work art. It's A production number. Pure Southern accent.

Great song & well sung by Elvis! It was originally written & sung by Jerry Reed who was an accomplished musician & fantastic guitar player. When Elvis was recording 'Guitar Man' in Nashville they couldn't get the guitar sounding the same as Jerrys' version so Elvis wanted Jerry to come into the studio to do the guitar work. They eventually located Jerry who was on a fishing trip at the time & brought him into the studio (still in his fishing attire & sporting a beard) to complete the recording. I think that's how the story went. Enjoyed it Seph! 👍😄

When Jerry Reed walked in the hall to go into studio Elvis was standing on the far end of the hall. Jerry ran down the hall and jumped in Elvis’ arm and kissed Elvis . Saying I’m as straight as can be but your are the most beautiful person I have ever seen.

WARNING: Spoiler alert in lots of comments on this one. Guess you'll just have to grin and bear it. I don't think Elvis gets enough credit for his enunciation. Not all artists can sing a fast song like this and have every word understood by the listener. A double banger for sure!!

As said, the song was written and sung by Jerry Reed originally. He is worth a listen: He plays the guitar fabulous in his own finger-picking style, he sings quite well and he wrote his own songs. He also is a funny guy, a lot of songs have humour in them. Most of them are in country-style, sort of, and I think you said you like that too. He also was an actor in the famous and funny movie Smokey and the Bandit. Some songs: Oh! what a woman, Take a Walk, Another Puff, Tupelo Mississippi Flash (and coincidentally Elvis is born in Tupelo....), instrumental: The Claw.
