Such a stand out song and performance. Magnificent voice, skilful, engaging accompanying guitar and apparently extemporised piano playing that complements Elvis' interpretation. Great gradual revelation of all the feelings behind the words. My favourite bit is the phraseology which highlights the rhyme and build up to the reveal at the end: "If she came I would hold her/ Because I need that shoulder ..... to lean on/Yes I really do..... I need somebody/And baby that somebody ... is you. Then the gentle, wistful humming at the end. Brilliant.

Maybe you should read " Destined to die young". Elvis had MAJOR health problems from birth. There is WAY more to that story. His mom, Grandma Doll & 6 of his 8 uncles all died in their 40's. He took perscriptions to deal with his Genetic health problems, his enlarged paralyzed colon, Glaucoma, Antitrypsin Deficiency, a condition which can result in lung and/or liver disease both of which he had severely at the time of his death. Elvis was never a smoker or drinker. He had Together with the immune system disorder, hypogammaglobulinemia, which plagued Elvis all his life and caused him to constantly fight various infections. His “inherited” weak heart, reactive arthritis, and the impact of his nocturnal lifestyle, resulting in a lack of vitamin D, the effects of which contributed to respiratory infections, reduced immune function, and inflammation. Of the 11 bodily systems that operate to keep us alive and hopefully healthy. Critically, Elvis suffered disease or disorder in nine of them! And five were present from birth and pre his fame. His heart (circulatory system), his lungs (respiratory system), and his bowels (digestive/excretory systems) required medication. Insomnia affected his nervous system……His immune system was compromised. His urinary system was not functioning properly. At one point there was even talk of dialysis. Often he is dismissed as just another rock ‘n’ roll drug addict. He wasn't taking street drugs. He was taking perscriptions not to "ESCAPE" h was taking them to try to maintain some sense of normalcy as himself in a time where the medical field was limited. No DNA, Genetics, No MRI's, little known about the addiction, his dystrophy & No understanding of Vitamin D even. Looking at the illnesses and disorders, that mounted upon each other over the decades, it’s no coincidence that Elvis’ prescription drug use increased as his health declined. From ear infections to chronic tonsilitis to recurrent flus to eye infections and glaucoma…..these arguably insignificant ailments independently, grew into something more. As his body broke down, alongside multiple immune system disorders and genetic complications, prescription medication and his handy PDR tried to fill the gaps. When that no longer worked, hospital stays became the norm and his list of ailments grew. The sicker he got, the more prescriptions he was prescribed. He was seeing a cardiologist before he bought Graceland. He was 20yrs old. They have gone through Elvis's entire life of medical records & now have an entire different story now. This is all the facts Geraldo & 20/20 never stated. HE became addicted yes, but he wasn't taking perscriptions to escape. He had MAJOR health problems from Birth and suffered 3 Traumatic Brain Injuries in his life. Those affected him JUST LIKE BOXERS, NFL PLAYERS, NASCAR DRIVERS. It caused his brain to turn on his body and become an Auto-immune disease. It cause fluid to build on his brain, it caused him to suffer massive migraines, develop Glaucoma, fluid on his retina, liver and kidney damage, fluid on his heart, pressure in his lower spine, Neuropathy in his legs and hands, erratic spending, mood changes, memory loss & can't remember lyrics & movie lines, insomnia, weight Flux, dialysis, fluid in his abdomen, face and hands.I could keep going but his Doctors give an entire overview month to month based on his medical files in BOTH these sites: www.practicalpainmanagement.com/pain/other/brain-injury/elvis-presley-head-trauma-autoimmunity-pain-early-death www.tapatalk.com/groups/elvismomentsintime/elvis-how-sick-he-really-was-t9896.html

nice comment Elvis was a great and underrated actor who got good roles in the early part of his career in the roles that he should have got that he did not get he put it in the song this is a beautiful ballad I need someone to lean on by Elvis his versatility as an actor is just as good as his versatility as a singer he's able to switch to characters and sing different type of song with ease and flexibility early 60s Elvis was always at his best physically and vocally I need someone to lean on is a classic ballad it should have got a gold record Elvis has so many different kinds of talents to bad he was mismanaged

This is a really beautiful ballad with plenty of mood and atmosphere, and Elvis sang it perfectly. I still don't understand why I hear so many critics and people in general put down many of Elvis's soundtrack songs These songs were well written by professional songwriters who often didn't get the recognition they should have. Most of the soundtrack songs were classics. They can't write music like that anymore. The songwriters to the king should be recognized for their contributions to music.

He was rightfully so picked ( if memory serves ) by Rolling Stone mags, or some sort of music industry org, something like that, as '' The #`1 Entertainer of the last century ''. How sad, he couldn't see, beyond himself- people used him, and he was more than happy, to give- he was generous, to a fault; but also demanding. There was no middle ground, with Elvis- unless he was crazy touched, by your happiness or plight, he was immensely bored. He thrived, on highs and lows
