And he was so generous, gave houses, money, cars (over 200), juwelry away, paid hospital bills and even gave the first electric wheelchair in Memphis away to a poor black lady. He gave to family, freinds, strangers, fans and charity, he was so kind you can't believe it !

Lovely to see young people react to Elvis. This song was based on the Martin Luther King ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. MLK had been assassinated in Memphis which seemingly had affected Elvis greatly, hence the passion with which he sang this song written especially for the Comeback Special. ‘In The Ghetto’ is another message song. If you would like to hear the range of his voice listen to songs like ‘Surrender’ - ‘Suspicion’ - ‘Such A Night’ - ‘It’s Now Or Never’ - There’s Always Me’. The list goes on and on and you will no doubt be requested to react to lots (he recorded hundreds) of songs from his loyal fans 42 years after his death.

Elvis was the best friend i ever had in my entire life. we met when i was 17 yrs old. I won a radio show contest and the prize was a day with Elvis but our friendship lasted past that one day in time. All the memories of my friend are tucked safe in my heart forever. i saw him numerous times he was amazing he was not only my friend but a big brother as well. I never will get over his death it haunts me everyday seeing him in video's dancing and singing breaks my heart because i know he is not here anymore my mind understands but my heart never will, i saw him a few weeks before he passed he said kiddo everything will be okay i said E. nothing will ever be okay again, i was crying so hard he gave me a little kiss on the cheek and said i love ya kiddo always remember that okay i said love ya too E. that was the last time i saw my friend alive again. I walk past Graceland everyday without fail. Anyway i loved your reaction i hope you will watch more of his music videos love from Memphis Tn.

THIS IS WHAT I SEE ............... YOU KNOW I LOVE MUSIC {50'S 60'S 70'S SOME 80'S BUT NOTHING AFTER THAT REALLY}........... HOW-EVER YOU KNOW ALMOST ANY ONE CAN SAY THE WORDS, BUT ELVIS CAN LAY DOWN A TRACK LIKE NO-BODY,THINK ABOUT IT, HE STARTS CALM AND SLOW AND THEN RISES HIS VOCALS AND CAN MANIPULATE THE WORDS LIKE LIQUID GOLD, AS THE SONG GO'S ON .......... AND IF YOU THINK IT'S EASY TRY IT, YES I KNOW THAT'S HOW IT WORKS BUT NO-BODY MADE IT SEAM SO EASY AND SOUND SO FANTASTIC LIKE THE MAN HIMSELF SO LISTEN AND YOU TO THEN WILL SEE HOW HE CHANGES TONE ,OCTAVE, STYLE AND VOLUME WITH OUT A WHISPER OF TROUBLE, WOW, HE SANG AT LEAST 700 SONG'S LIKE THAT ..... I KNOW I'VE HEARD THEM ALL. ............ FOR ME DAM IT I CAN'T EVEN HUM ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT YOU SHOULD HEAR ME SING ALONG WITH ELVIS { THEN AND ONLY THEN ] DO I SOUND FANTASTIC ...................... THANK GOD FOR ELVIS ................ Elvis ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/apKWgIiDhpqheKM........................ whole Lotta Livin To Do ................From the movie, Loving You (1957). As you can see the king charms the crowd in to summation on the movie as well as it was in real life, You will see at the beginning the older lady's did not want to "get in to it" but as the king did his thing the lady's joined in . Also the women in blue in the Isle when Elvis turns to his left is his mom and his dad next to her as they clap for their son's staler performance Don't believe me OK then just watch and you to will become a fan too. ..........This next one.......... This song deserves some historical context. It was performed here shortly after Martin Luther King's assassination, a death Elvis felt strongly AND Kennedy's assassination. The song was written as a tribute to MLuther King and President Kennedy. This was the finale performance of Elvis' 1968 Comeback Special.

This song If I Can Dream is so vastly different from what Elvis’ style was. I have wondered why our Heavenly Father chose Elvis to deliver such an important message and performance right after the MLK+ assassinations - and then I realized that God was probably using reverse psychology in a way. Because of all of Elvis’ accumulated charisma, popularity, hip moving, sex appeal, etc. many people were keeping their eyes on him and paying attention . . . so when the really important message of this song / hymn was delivered, LOTS of people were listening and affected. Amazing performance done with purity and intensity of heart. Well done, Elvis!

HERE ARE THE REAL FACTS OF THE SONG "IF I CAN DREAM" Elvis Presley The King Elvis Presley Home Elvis Home › Graceland › Elvis News › Elvis Biography › Elvis Interviews › Sitemap › The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, as well as that of U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, affected Elvis Presley deeply. These feelings led Elvis to give one of the most passionate performances of his career. America was in the midst of an upheaval in 1968. The Civil Rights movement was in full swing and our world and culture were changing. Within a short span of time, two leaders were assassinated. Dr. King was assassinated April 4, 1968, in Memphis - Elvis's hometown. Robert Kennedy, Assassinated in Los Angeles, June 6,1968, a US Senator who strongly supported human rights and social justice, was killed two months later, on June 6. It was Elvis's reaction to the news of both King and Kennedy's assassination that lead to the creation of the song 'If I Can Dream', a tribute song to King, featuring direct quotes from the Civil Rights leader. In the spring of '68, Elvis was working on his upcoming TV special, 'Elvis'. After seeing the news about Kennedy's death on TV, Elvis spent an entire night with the show's director, Steve Binder, and his friends, talking about the assassinations and Elvis's wishes for the world. The conversation was heartfelt and honest, and Binder believed Elvis had an important message for the country. Binder then went to the show's Musical Director Billy Goldenberg and songwriter Earl Brown and told them about the discussion. He wanted a powerful, meaningful song that would close out the TV special. Because the special was slated to air in December, the producers and Elvis's manager, Col. Tom Parker, had planned to end the show with a Christmas song, but Binder had other ideas. It wasn't long before 'If I Can Dream was born. Once the song was finished, Binder took the song to Elvis and played it for him. 'Let me hear it again', said Elvis, and the song was played again and again. 'Okay', Elvis said, 'I'll do it'. On June 23, 1968, Elvis recorded 'If I Can Dream in several impassioned takes, even though it is said that the first take Elvis gave was perfect. The king gave such a powerful performance that some band members were taken aback, so blown away by Elvis's performance that they had to do several retakes. It was after the band and backup singers were sent home that Elvis gave an even more astonishing performance as he re-recorded the vocals. Elvis had the lights turned off and gave himself over to the music. Over the next few takes, he fell to his knees on the concrete floor, giving himself completely to the song. After those takes, Elvis went to the control room and had his chosen take played repeatedly before he gave it his blessing. Elvis was so moved by the song and his experience with it that he told Binder, I'll never sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in'. 'If I Can Dream was featured at the end of Elvis's Singer Special (later known as the '68 Special) on December 3, 1968. This was the first time the public heard the song, and it was later released as a single with 'Edge of Reality (recorded for the film 'Live a Little, Love a Little') as its flip-side in November 1968. The single spent 13 weeks on the U.S. pop chart peaking at #12. In the U.K., it was on the chart for 10 weeks, peaking at #11. It is now a Gold Record single. Elvis Presley Lyrics Words & Music by W. Earl Brown Elvis Presley Lyrics There must be lights burning brighter somewhere Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true There must be peace and understanding sometime Strong winds of promise that will blow away All the doubt and fear If I can dream of a warmer sun Where hope keeps shining on everyone Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear We're lost in a cloud With too much rain We're trapped in a world That's troubled with pain But as long as a man Has the strength to dream He can redeem his soul and fly Deep in my heart there's a trembling question Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle And while I can think, while I can talk While I can stand, while I can walk While I can dream, please let my dream Come true, right now Let it come true right now Oh yeah Recorded: 1968/06/23, first released on single

Here's a little bit of info for you....first, try to think about ALL the greatest musical ' entertainers ' of the LAST century, the 20th century ( from 1900-2000 ) that is...Keep in mind, we're talking about all the great entertainers during that time period...Do you know Elvis beat them ALL.. Elvis was voted the ' #1 Entertainer of the last century '...coming in at #2 was Frank Sinatra...and everyone else falls in line on the list of 100....Elvis, was and forever will be #1...I my opinion, he would've and could've taken a #1 spot at ANY centuries..Also, Elvis was one of the greatest 'rags to riches' story too... I'm so glad I was around when Elvis was still in this world... Great reactions ..Cheers...

I'm so glad I found your channel. I was like you and knew who Elvis was but had never really listened to him until 3 years ago. I've been obsessed since. He is about all I listen to. After reading so many books about him and discovering what kind of person he was just made me love him even more. He was a beautiful human being inside and out and he gave so many things to everyone around him. He even gave cars, homes and a variety of other things to strabgers. A lot of times he didn't want anyone knowing what he did. He donated tons of money to numerous charities. Anyway, he was truly a humanitarian and he loved everyone. Every color, everyone. Thanks so much guys for reacting to Elvis.

But didn't want anything to sing Xmas songs. Thanks to Elvis and the show producer worked on his powerful 1968 tv special showcase Elvis talents in being number 1 again! More than 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial to protest against segregation and bigotry, and Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. In the months that followed, younger, more militant members of the civil rights movement grew increasingly frustrated with King’s caution and his commitment to non-violent resistance, but King pushed on. And in the aftermath of his assassination, millions of people paid tribute to his courage, his eloquence and his determination. Elvis Presley was one of them. He recorded the song “If I Can Dream” just two months after the murder, and the emotional intensity with which he delivers it still brings back the shock and grief that gripped America in the wake of King’s murder. Presley was just six years younger than King, and both were born and raised in the Deep South (King in Georgia and Elvis in Mississippi), where they were surrounded by institutionalized racism. King was not a great admirer of rock ‘n’ roll, but Presley greatly admired King, who was killed less than nine miles from Presley’s home at Graceland. Presley was unable to attend the funeral in person as he was filming “Live a Little, Love a Little,” one of his many movies. But according to his co-star Celeste Yarnall, she and Elvis “watched the funeral of Martin Luther King, Jr. together over lunch in his trailer. He cried. He really cared deeply.” A few weeks later, Elvis began to work on the one-hour TV show now widely known as his “’68 Comeback Special.” Filmed in June and airing in December, the show was originally scheduled to close with Elvis singing “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” a plan enthusiastically endorsed by his Machiavellian manager, Colonel Tom Parker. But in light of King’s assassination (and, as production of the show got under way, the murder of Sen. Robert Kennedy on June 6, 1968), Elvis balked. He wanted to conclude with a song that reflected his deep sadness at the racial and political strife dividing the country. Steve Binder, the director of the “Comeback Special,” agreed. “I wanted to let the world know that here was a guy who was not prejudiced,” Binder declared, “who was raised in the heart of prejudice, but was really above all that.” Binder and Elvis were able to outmanoeuvre Parker, and for once Elvis got to sing what he wanted to sing. The Comeback Special closes - unforgettably - with “If I Can Dream,” written by the vocal arranger Earl Brown, and performed by Elvis in a white suit standing alone in front of large red letters that spelled out Elvis. ‘Why can’t my dream come true?’ King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is clearly Brown’s inspiration for the lyrics of “If I Can Dream.” Freedom, promise, redemption and darkness are at the crux of both, as the speech is variously echoed, adapted and rewritten in the lyrics. King’s image of “a great beacon light” reappears in Brown’s reference to “a beckoning candle.” King’s “solid rock of brotherhood” corresponds to Brown’s vision of “brothers” walking “hand in hand.” King’s “sunlit path of racial justice” prompts Brown’s invocation of “a warmer sun / Where hope keeps shining on everyone.” Above all, of course, both King and Brown “dream” of a better, more equitable society and future, though King’s optimism (“I Have a Dream”) contrasts sharply with Brown’s tentativeness (“If I Can Dream”). Faced in 1963 with bigotry, gun violence and police brutality, King remains convinced that “somehow this situation can and will be changed,” and that “my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.” Brown struggles to be as confident. Confronted in 1968 by the assassinations of King and Kennedy, his lyrics - unlike King’s speech - are suffused with “doubt and fear,” though he maintains that he is “sure that the answers gonna come somehow.” King did not deny “the difficulties of today and tomorrow,” but he had the courage to imagine a better world in spite of them, and had already spelled out the cultural, legal and moral changes that needed to take place in order for us to create that world. In response, Brown asks the most pressing question of all. If the example of King enables us to “dream of a better land,” and if we and millions of other people believe in that same dream, “why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true?” Still, we dream Brown’s lyrics are an impassioned reaction to the devastating news of King’s death, but it is what Elvis does with those lyrics that transforms “If I Can Dream” into what is, I believe, one of the most moving tributes ever paid to the bravery and vision of King. For the first time in almost a decade, and for one of the last times in his career, Elvis is singing - and knows himself to be singing - a song that matters. His voice is full of raw emotion that seems at times almost to overwhelm him, and that drives him in the bridge (“the strength to dream”) and at the climax (“right now”) to an intensity that approaches a scream. Before us once again is the angry, urgent, anti-establishment Elvis who exploded onto the American music scene 12 years earlier, and who now, at 33 years old, closes his “Comeback Special” by honouring the country’s greatest Black leader. Less than a decade later, Elvis himself was dead, and while “If I Can Dream” has been recorded by several other artists, and included on a number of different Elvis compilations, no re-mastering or re-release can replace the power of the song in its original context.

You all should have some context to this song. Think about the title... it was done only 2 months after Rev. Martin Luther King (who was famous for a sermon about "I have a dream...") had been assassinated in Elvis' city, just 9 miles from his home. He was very very upset about it as he greatly admired King. So when he was doing this big TV special a couple months later, they had planned to end it with a Christmas number but Elvis insisted he wanted to sing this song instead, something actually meaningful and something he really felt. He had to fight his manger to do it but he won and thus this song was the famous ending to that special....

The assassinations of MLK (April '68) and Bobby Kennedy (June that year) affected Elvis a lot. This song is sung with them two in mind. It also contains quotes by MLK. Love your reactions and your Liverpoodlian accent.
