Elvis is one of the best singers that has ever lived. He was also a fabulous entertainer. There is a reason he is called "The King". He had a great voice & could sing anything whether it was ballads, gospel or rock. This song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to Martin Luther King after his assassination.

Elvis cried immediately after the end of that performance. He normally wasn't a fan of messages BUT - after the assassination of MLK and RFK, the Vietnam War, and riots on the streets - this was the one time he felt called to sing about his feelings about those turbulent times.

After Elvis sang this song it is believed he went back stage and cried. The facts are, after sang this song, Elvis himself said that he would never sing another song or act in another movie he didn't believe in. Guess what? This song meant nothing to Elvis, it was all for show. BECAUSE HE NEVER SANG THIS SONG AGAIN!!!!!
