You would be surprised. They feel what he sang. Mankind has still not risen to Elvis’ level of concern, but he did and continues to make a difference.

To me this never gets old. Not to be pedantic, but there's something "universal" about this song--we all have our ghettos

Chicago 50 plus years later, the same. Love this song, just so profound and Elvis's voice and demeanor is so perfect.

CHicago is even worse today after 50+ years...wonder why? same team is in charge...seems like most of the cities they control have continuously declining living standards while the Kleptocrats/Leftists/RINOs that are in control grow continuously wealthy...

Never stop learning! I am thankful that the Lord directed you to my KZbin channel. Check out some of my Elvis documentaries. You will learn a lot more. I promise. Oh, Mac Davis wrote “In The Gehtto,” but he said that Elvis added “…and his mama cried,” which made the whole song.

His manager didn’t want him singing this because it was a “message song” and getting into politics. This song became a top 10 hit in the states and Europe/Australia etc 😊

The words in this song touches my heart. Sad that so many are born in the ghetto. I wish we lived in a world whre the babies didn't grow up and haft to steal to eat. They live in a place where they haft to learn to fight to survive and many are forced to join gangs thus putting a gun in their hands. It's so sad cause many do die, and the Mther's cry.
@JudyHickscount Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. It was always heavy on Elvis’ heart, having grown up in poverty. The Colonel didn’t want him to sing controversial songs, but he was determined because he wanted everyone to have a chance to get out. If I Could Dream was his same cry. What it boils down to is that God makes us equal, but man’s sin nature determines where grow up based on everyone’s choices in life. Our sin nature is at fault.

Elvis’s “The Ghetto” is a most moving, poignant repeated life, or is it tragedy story, that 50 years later remains an ever constant for youth everywhere living in “The Ghetto”. So what needs to change - fill in the blank.

This song is so profound. Elvis died when I was very young, however I was always drawn to this song before I knew what it was about. It held true then, it holds true now. I don't know if "ghetto" is proper terminology is this day and age. However poverty in the inner city is still here in 2021. Sad. Chicago is a mess.
@JudyHickscount3 жыл бұрын
So true. Elvis came from poverty and against the advice of his manager spoke out and recorded songs expressing the wrong of man to man (racism and poverty). Watch my video documentaries Elvis Pressley--Who Said What?, Why Elvis?, and the ten part series "Elvis Presley--A Man Who Made A Difference"

What makes it even more special is Mac Davis’s is comment regarding the song that he wrote. I saw this on a video and Mac was telling about writing In The Ghetto, but that Elvis added added ‘and his mama cried,’ which made the song. I cannot find it now, but maybe you can.

Elvis knew what was going on in the world and could see all of the injustices that was happening to those who were being discriminated against, mainly blacks and working class people in general. Sadly, you become a product of the environment that you’re born in.

Marcia Brasileiro Marcia, he sang his heart out for his Lord and his fans. Because his multiple health issues resulted in chronic pain, death was merciful, but he left us so much of himself. It is like the pastor of the black church he attended said, “He was a bundle of energy set to music and that echo will never die.” He made more of an impact in his few short years than a multitude of people do in a lifetime.
