It has become a Top 40 popular success three times: for Timi Yuro (1963), Eddy Arnold (1965), and the brother-sister duo Donny and Marie Osmond (1975). The original version of the song was recorded by Ray Price in 1963. and popularized again by Mickey Gilley in (1999) has remained a country-crooner standard ever since. In 1999, the 1965 Eddy Arnold version of the song on RCA Records was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Hank Cochran wrote the song while he was on a date at a movie theater in 1960 when the film inspired him. He left the theater quickly, and by the time he got home fifteen minutes later had composed "Make the World Go Away". Ray Price recorded the song, and it scored No.2 on the Billboard country charts in 1963. The next year Eddy Arnold would make the song his signature hit, scoring No. 1 on the country music charts and then in 1965 No. 6 on the overall Billboard Hot 100 chart (his highest rated song ever). Cochran was already a successful songwriter, having written two successes for Patsy Cline: "I Fall to Pieces" (with Harlan Howard) and "She's Got You". "Make the World Go Away" was recorded first by Ray Price and was one of Price's first songs to feature an orchestra and female chorus, a trend that continued with other songs like "Burning Memories" and "For the Good Times". Price's album peaked at No. 2 on the country chart and No. 100 on the album chart. For more info link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Make_the_World_Go_Away Songwriter info will be in a separate comment 😃👍 LOVED 💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜💖💜🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶💛🎶 YOUR REACTION TO THIS!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! DO KNOW YOU ARE MOST APPRECIATED SEPH 🌹💛🌹 TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕 P.S. In a commercial here in The States they used a bit of Eddy Arnold's recorded version of "Make The World Go Away". It sounds NOTHING like Elvis's version. Elvis put a bluesy twist on the song I think. The two versions are not even comparable in my opinion because Elvis's version sounds like a COMPLETELY different song altogether. P.P.S. I forgot to add: The way Elvis sings "Makes The World Go Away" I interpret it as a post- quarrel- apology song. Not a break up song, no. But more like an apology song after a particularly hurtful quarrel. Additional Note: James Burton's Telecaster guitar you see there is a pink paisley design.

@@jjbud3124 Agreed. Elvis just turned this song completely around and made it his own totally. To me Elvis owns this one. It's his song. I might be biased though because I say that about a few classics if different genres that Elvis covered. "My Way" being a prime example of how Elvis completely changed my mind. I always thought of it as Frank's song. After I listened to Elvis's version there's really no comparison. Elvis- by the end of the song- had comvinced me it was no longer Frank's. Ronnie actually missed the first time Elvis did his signature jittery pull-back, hence the little signal he gave him to rap his drum rims on the next verse. So he did. Elvis smiled. 🤩

He was easy to read, he was complex, but not always. In his later years he became almost a recluse. As we all know it's lonely at the top. And the interesting part is he always confided in women, even the guys around him didn't hear a lot of personal information. Loved it Seph.

Hi Seph! It’s Wednesday, my day off work and I’m getting nothing done because I’m too busy playing catchup but I’ll forgo progress for you and Elvis. So much to say here. The high collars were always a thing for Elvis. I have read that he was teased about his long neck as a child. They called him “chicken neck”, haha but whenever he shows us his neck all I see is a long, graceful neck that attaches his beautiful head to his beautiful shoulders (I got it bad:)! His designer, Bill Belew, commented on his use of high collars for Elvis because he had a face worth framing. Also, Mr. Belew was quoted after putting Elvis in the 68 Special, black leather that he was dumbfounded that the biggest star on the planet simply accepted every outfit without interjecting his own desires. Moving on, his upper torso rolls toward the band are an involuntary reaction to the music. Frequently, he smiles to himself for having found himself in that position which makes him so polarizing to watch such as when he actually shivers when James begins his solo. Last, the big beginning belt says you’re not going anywhere. To my knowledge the only other time he does this is…(spoiler alert Seph)…I Can’t Stop Loving You…shivers myself, every time! Sending prayers and wishes to you, Sammy, for the speediest of recoveries🌹

I love this song. Best version. Elvis was really straining and struggling on this night. He turned in one of his best ever performances the night before and he was a bit shot on this night. You can hear his voice is strained during some of the chorus. It’s discussed on Leon’s ultimate Elvis channel. I admire that he gave it his best and really belted it out. The Colonel beat him down and these are the first glimpses of Elvis getting worn down. Still the greatest of all time. Top 150 song.

@@Barbara-lb5yt It can't be seen. It can be heard. All of the orchestration and backup singers cover it pretty well. I think it's the first noticeable glimpses of fatigue. He could only take so much vocal strain with that ridiculous schedule and, of course, drug abuse took its toll.

@@Barbara-lb5yt You can see fatigue on "the Sit down outtake" where he asked for his little stool & sat down to do 4 songs. His hair was wet & he was wiped out but his voice was wonderful. It was the performance where he went into the audience a 2nd time & some of the chains & tabs of his Chain jumpsuit were ripped -- it's at kzbin.info/www/bejne/b53QZqBmfZV_h80. A woman yelled something up to him & he said "Honey, I wouldn't go back down there again for love nor money." There's a few second piece of footage (I don't recall which video it was on) of him being hoisted up in the air by some audience members. There are also a few photos from some '70's concerts in other cities of how he looked after performing -- wiped out. And one from the mid- '50's in Minneapolis & St. Paul --- totally exhausted.

No one expects this beginning. It is the only time, I believe, that he has ever begun a song on high power & loud. Yes, it's all those little lyric changes that you don't expect which made him, once again, so unique. Another singer would just sing it "flat out" -- but not Elvis.

2nd comment: Songwriter Info Below: Garland Perry "Hank" Cochran (August 2, 1935 - July 15, 2010) was an American country music singer and songwriter. Starting during the 1960s, Cochran was a prolific songwriter in the genre, including major hits by Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold, and others. Cochran was also a recording artist between 1962 and 1980, scoring seven times on the Billboard country music charts, with his greatest solo success being the No. 20 "Sally Was a Good Old Girl." In 2014, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Hank Cochran was born August 2, 1935, in Isola, Mississippi, during the Great Depression. By the time he turned three, Cochran already had pneumonia, whooping cough, measles, and mumps. The doctor feared he wouldn't survive to adulthood. His parents divorced when he was nine years old. He then moved with his father to Memphis, Tennessee, and was placed in an orphanage. After running away twice, he then was sent to live with his grandparents, in Greenville, Mississippi. His uncle Otis Cochran taught him to play the guitar as the pair hitchhiked from Mississippi to southeastern New Mexico to work in the oilfields.[5] After returning to Mississippi as a teenager, Cochran went to California and picked olives. While there, he formed The Cochran Brothers, a duo with Eddie Cochran.[5] In 1960 at the age of 24, he hitchhiked for Hollywood, but ended up going to Nashville, and teamed with Harlan Howard to write the song "I Fall to Pieces".[2] [4]It became a major success for Patsy Cline (recorded November 16, 1960), reaching No. 1 on the Billboard country music charts and No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 (chart for all music categories). Cline also recorded Cochran's "She's Got You" (recorded December 17, 1961, it was another major hit, No. 1 on the country charts and No. 14 on the Hot 100), and "Why Can't He Be You" (recorded September 5, 1962). In 1960, during a date at a movie theater, the film inspired him to compose a new song. He left the theater quickly, and by the time he got home fifteen minutes later, composed "Make the World Go Away." Ray Price recorded the song, and it scored No. 2 on the Billboard country charts in 1963. The next year Eddy Arnold, who recorded it in as a pop-oriented Nashville Sound arrangement, made the song his signature hit and one of the biggest sellers in country music history, scoring No. 1 on the country music charts, then in 1965 No. 6 on the overall Billboard Hot 100 charts (his highest rated song ever). Arnold also recorded the song "I Want to Go with You". Cochran wrote several successful songs sung by Burl Ives ("A Little Bitty Tear", "Funny Way of Laughin'", "The Same Old Hurt"). He also wrote songs for George Strait ("The Chair" with Dean Dillon and "Ocean Front Property" with Dillon and Royce Porter), Keith Whitley ("Miami, My Amy" also with Dillon and Porter), Merle Haggard ("It's Not Love (But It's Not Bad)"), "Don't You Ever Get Tired (of Hurting Me)", a No. 1 scoring record for Ronnie Milsap, and Mickey Gilley ("That's All That Matters"). While working at publishing company Pamper Music, some evenings, he performed in a Nashville tavern named Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. While there, he noticed an amazing new talent. He encouraged management to contract the young songwriter, Willie Nelson, giving Nelson a raise owed to him at the time. Two of his fondest memories were working with Natalie Cole (among other artists) on a 2003 tribute album to Patsy Cline (Remembering Patsy Cline), because of his love for her father Nat King Cole, and his collaboration with Vern Gosdin for the 1988 album Chiseled in Stone (Gosdin's highest rated album at No. 7). In 2008, singer Lea Anne Creswell came to Cochran's home to choose songs for a new album, subsequently called Lea Anne Sings Hank Cochran and .... Cochran was married five times. His fourth wife was country music vocalist Jeannie Seely. They were married twelve years and divorced in 1981. In 1982, he married his fifth wife Suzi and they were married until his death in 2010. Cochran had surgery for pancreatic cancer in July 2008. In April 2010, he had a second surgery to remove and repair a grapefruit sized aortic aneurysm. Cochran's health did not improve, and he died on July 15, 2010, at age 74. For more bio info see link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Cochran *fingers crossed this goes through*

3rd comment: Article on Hank Cochran I found for anyone interested: Although he's a respected singer in his own right, songwriter Hank Cochran's role in the Patsy Cline story might've been enough to warrant his 2014 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In the grand scheme of things, hits like "I Fall to Pieces" merely previewed the talents of one of the most consistent songwriters of the past 60 years. In 1960, the same year he hitchhiked to Nashville from California at age 24, Isola, Mississippi native Garland Perry Cochran (Aug. 2, 1935- July 15, 2010) co-wrote "I Fall to Pieces" with the great Harlan Howard. He also wrote Cline's jazz-pop hit "She's Got You" and the less obvious "Why Can't He Be You." If that's not an amazing enough start, 1960 is the same year that a trip to the movie theater inspired Cochran to write "Make the World Go Away," a future Ray Price hit and the career-defining song of Eddy Arnold. Before his mid-20s, the newest Hank in Music City (following Williams, Locklin, Thompson and Snow) had written signature tunes for two of the greatest vocalists in the genre's history. While working at the Pamper Music Publishing company, Cochran moonlighted as a singer at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. He was no stranger to performing, having been a member of the Cochran Brothers alongside rockabilly legend Eddie Cochran. Despite their group name, the two legends weren't related. During his stint at Tootsie's, Cochran became one of the first taste-makers to notice the talents of a down-on-his-luck singer and songwriter named Willie Nelson. A few singles by Cochran for RCA Victor, Capitol, Monument and Elektra cracked the top 100 over the years, including "Sally Was a Good Old Girl" (1962), the aptly-titled "A Good Country Song" (1963) and a pair of duets with Nelson, "Ain't Life Hell" (1978) and "A Little Bitty Tear" (1980). In the '80s and beyond, country traditionalists found success with Cochran's songs. George Strait's "The Chair" and "Ocean Front Property" were Cochran co-writes with Dean Dillon, as was Keith Whitley's "Miami, My Amy." The like-minded Jamey Johnson also flocked to Cochran's music, honoring him with 2012 tribute album Living For a Song. Other songs from the mind of Cochran include Waylon Jennings' "The Eagle," Vern Gosdin's "This Ain't My First Rodeo." his one-time wife Jeannie Seely's "Don't Touch Me" and the often-covered "Don't You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me?"-a number one hit in 1989 for Ronnie Milsap. A list of additional artists who've covered Cochran's material reads like a pop culture who's-who: Burl Ives, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Costello, Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard. A 1974 shoo-in to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Cochran's plaque was hung in the Country Music Hall of Fame's rotunda the same year as Milsap and Mac Wiseman. Not bad for a songwriter who'd lived by a simple yet potent creed: "Make it short. Make it sweet. Make it rhyme." - End of article *fingers crossed this goes through*
