Marty Lacker, a member of Elvis' famed Memphis Mafia and one of the best men at Elvis' 1967 wedding, died Monday after suffering from kidney failure. He was 80. He's the second member of the Memphis Mafia to die in recent months, following the November 2016 death of Joe Esposito, the other best man at Elvis' wedding.
'He went to school with (Elvis), that’s how they met. My dad was from New York, the Bronx, and he dressed just like Elvis did. They just formed a bond of friendship through that. They always took up for each other. Both of them went into the army and afterwards, a good friend of his re-introduced them and he went to work for him', said Mr. Lacker's son, Mark. 'They were like brothers. They respected each other'.

You know that is what everyone has been saying in the last few years, but it is a new thing. NONE of the early books said that Elvis did not want to marry Priscilla or that he cried before the wedding, etc. It seems strange to me that it just popped up suddenly a few years ago. Before that it was that Elvis cried after she left him.

@@richardcray2919 Actually, everyone knew and Priscilla stated that she was a virgin on their wedding night. Elvis adamantly refused to have sex with her before marriage. He had ideas about purity in a wife that were part religious and part social. It was so prevalent that, in the old days, some men didn't want to sleep with their wife again if she was r@ped during the marriage. They referred to it as being "ruined". On a positive note, a woman psychologist, in the early 1900's, began to discreetly survey married women about their sex lives around 1920. I'd have to research to find out her name because I don't remember... All were virgins at the time of their weddings which all occurred around the late 1800's to 1900. Of these women, around 80% didn't have sex on their wedding nights. Their husbands waited; some waited weeks. I found that to be very sweet of these young grooms. Imagine leaving your father's house to marry while having no amorous experience. Girls were sheltered in those days.... Because these men wanted their wives to feel secure and marriages to be happy, they didn't pressure their brides.

@@Elvistathere are a lot of Elvis fans I see on social media who often state things that are contrary to what Marty is talking about here. Everything here is from Marty's perspective of course however, his recollection of thoughts flow and you hear a genuine love for Elvis in the way he speaks. It's a deep dive into his thoughts on Joe & Jerry and gives fans a clearer insight into why certain people work in and around EPE and while others don't. It should be patently obvious that Elvis was pressured into marrying Priscilla, not just from what Marty states here but also from female relationships he had almost immediately before and carried on not too long after getting married.

@@zucan100 nothing wrong with what Marty relates in the interviews....he was one of the very few who was honest, fearlessly loyal, and actually cared about EP. Wow. Elvis changed his mind about marrying Priscilla. Well that wasn’t in Baz Lurmann’s, errrr I mean Priscilla’s movie. It’s very clear that Director Baz Lurmann had no choice but to make his Elvis movie according to Priscilla’s narrative. And if not, no movie. She’s always controlled the ‘Elvis narrative, since the day he died in 1977. It’s easy to control the narrative of dead people. And she knows it. The fact that she managed Presley Enterprises after his death. Without challenges for so many decades and on a really high income, says it all. Becos sad fact is, Elvis’s father died 2 years later in 1979. So even Vernon couldn’t control her power tripping. Cause he was dead too. Glad tho, Riley Keough was given control of Presley Enterprises after Lisa Marie’s death. Finally gettin the power and money of Priscilla. But as we know, not without a fight.

This anti Priscilla narrative is tiresome. Elvis married one woman and had one child. Sonny West said he thought Elvis only loved two women, one of whom was Priscilla complicated as the relationship was. Charlie Hodge said the happiest times that they all had that he misses were the times right after Elvis got married and they would all have dinner together with Elvis and Priscilla. Elvis didn't want to get married yet was also shattered during the divorce? Would go on and on about his wife being stolen and/or his family breaking apart? Elvis himself said 1972 or 73 was "the worst year of his life" if I remember And btw Riley and Priscilla have a good relationship as both have said.

@@NickyMetropolis1313 Well my friend there have been two different camps since Elvis's death. The Pro-Cilla camp and the Anti Cilla camp. Those in the Pro camp and there were not many, were Charlie Hodge, George Klein, Joe Esposito, one of Elvis's cooks. and the big one in the Pro camp of course,... Jerry Shilling. All of these people have benefited from siding with Cilla after Elvis's death. They knew full well it was going to be Priscilla controlling the Elvis narrative, after she so connivingly and wickedly in fact gained trusteeship of the Elvis estate, GRACELAND. Elvis left Cilla nothing in his will. She got enough money during their divorce settlement and well after it , bleeding Elvis for more and more and more money right up till his death. The vast majority of people around Elvis and Priscilla, including a number of Elvis family members and employees in the house have stated Elvis did not want her as his wife and she in fact was cold calculating entitled and greedy as hell. One of the other cooks in the house, because Elvis had several cooks said quite the opposite to what Mary Jenkins said. Mary was kept on by Priscilla as cook in Graceland for every time she wanted to visit there, and what's more some of Elvis's family members were still living there after Elvis's death, Mary was being paid from the Graceland estate funds that priscilla was controlling. Anyway, the point is as the years have rolled on many of the fans have switched sides. The Anti Cilla camp has gotten bigger and bigger as the truth emerges about Priscilla Beaulieu.

Really enjoyed this vid. Marty L. always comes across as being quite honest and candid. Marty L. misspoke when he said that Prissy was 16 years old when she came to live with EP. She was actually 17 years old in 3/63 and Prissy would turn 18 in two-months, an adult (DOB: 5/24/45). Another thing that perplexes me is: • Why would her father drop her off in 3/63? Why not wait until the end of the school year? She only had two months left and she could have graduated in Germany. Also, she would have been 18 years old. It just appears to be rushed. Why? EP was NOT at Graceland. He was still in CA filming. • Why did her father bring her this time when the prior two visits she was unescorted. Just to finalize things with EP? Appearances? Hmmm?? • Also, my understanding is that her father was being transferred to Travis AFB, CA in 6/63. Why not just wait and finish high school in Germany and then fly back state-side, along with her family. She would have been 18. She could have then easily connected with EP in CA. Her father could have finalized things with EP at that time. Hmmm? • Paul B. dropped her off in Memphis at Vernon's house; however, shortly afterwards Prissy took it upon herself to move to Graceland. Again, EP was still in CA. I'll always view Prissy and her parents as being "schemers" and "opportunists" from the very beginning, who wanted to keep their "hooks" in EP. It just seems to me, that there’s a whole lot more going on here than meets the eye.

Absolutely.... Priscilla was seeing Elvis in tabloids, writing letters asking Elvis to ask her parents for her. What parent drops off their 16yo daughter to a 26 yo Elvis, parents who want their daughter to be rich, parents who've rec'd a promise from Elvis that he'll eventually marry her. They wanted this bad enough that they would take her out of school in her final year to start fresh somewhere else without their oversight. Elvis is to blame too though, what he wanted, he always got. Pity he didn't realise until later, it wasn't what he actually wanted.

If you watch Priscilla’s old 80’s interview with Barbara Walters she herself admits Elvis didn’t want to marry her. The problem with Priscilla is she forgets everything she ever said about Elvis is documented either on film or print, yet she constantly contradicts herself to suit her narrative which gives her away. We know she’s full of crap and so are Jerry and Joe to go along with her narrative, especially the “Elvis was so sad and wanted her back narrative.” He probably was sad that she sued him and he had to give her so much money and 5% of his publishing. I’d be sad too. If you read her Wikipedia page it tells you exactly what she took him for in the divorce, also there’s links there (I believe it’s under other) where there’s articles saying she changed her name back to Beaulieu after the divorce. After he died she went back to Presley to get her foot in the door to Hollywood.

@@saphireblue3563 Have you ever figured any reasonable way in which Tom Parker and Priscilla's father would have ruined Elvis' career had he refused to marry Priscilla in a way that it would have worked out for either of them? Wouldn't everyone have ended up broke with Parker having destroyed the career of his only client and Priscilla's father assuring that he'd break his daughter's heart if he ruined Elvis and Elvis refused to see her again? The whole premise of Elvis being blackmailed into marrying never made any sense to me and the idea that Elvis would confide in the hired help, no matter how much they meant to him, that he didn't want to go through with the wedding knowing Priscilla would come to Graceland as the new Mrs. Presley and might overhear them discussing what Elvis told them never made sense either. None of the "Elvis was trapped into marriage" reasons add up at all and Elvis had plenty of years to ditch Priscilla if he really wanted to do so.
@saphireblue3563
@saphireblue3563 3 ай бұрын
@@debra2700 It doesn't make any sense to me either. There was NOTHING in any of the early books saying that Elvis was blackmailed or forced to marry Priscilla. That is a new idea that just started about five years ago. I think if there was anything that "forced" him it would have been that she was pregnant. If that was true he would never have told anyone, he would have just kept it between him and Priscilla. But in her first book, Dee Presley said that six months before they married Elvis and Priscilla called her in the room and announced that they were engaged to be married in six months. So really, if Elvis ever said, "I have to" he must just have meant that he had promised and had to keep his promise. The employees who now say they saw Elvis crying before the marriage used to say they found him crying after the divorce. Its unreal how stories grow.

Also if you read many of the books their relationship fell apart from the beginning. Early on when Elvis and Elvis' friends would ride off on their motor bikes /Harleys, she would follow on her pink Suzuki. They would ride way ahead of her and just ignore her. Even though they were married when she tried to spend the night with Elvis in Vegas when he was performing he wouldn't allow her to stay in the same hotel room. There's a good account of this in Letters from Elvis By Gary Lindberg. Elvis set up dates with other women and have her clothing removed from the closet. When she would visit he'd arrange for her clothes to be put back.

Your right about Esposito. He was a real snitch. He would report back to Elvis's manager that degenerate Tom Parker on everything that was being said and done at Graceland. He was also as pissed as hell when Elvis chose Marty Lacker to be his best man. Joe had to be number one. He complained to Elvis, and Elvis felt pressured into incorporating him as co-best man after that. He also sucked up to Priscilla big time after she and Elvis were divorced, but especially after Elvis died. Hec which side did his loyalties lie? Almost all of the Memphis Mafia never had anything good to say about Priscilla and the things she did and her cold and calculating character, but Esposito was singing her praises as was Jerry Shilling. Both profited enormously after Elvis died covering up the sham of a marriage that Elvis had with Priscilla. They were great liars just like her and she loved them for it. Priscilla dated Shilling after Elvis died as well. So, she hit on Sonny West as well as Jerry Shilling. Sonny though rejected her.

He actually didn't and neither did Gladys have any Jewish blood. There is a different meaning regarding a six pointed star in Christian tradition. Also, Jewish people have intentionally created confusion about Elvis lineage due to Abner Tackett marrying a Jewish woman, Nancy J. Burdine, in the summer of 1873. However, Abner was married to Celia Butler Tackett - another Christian - in 1827 and she lived until February 1873. _She_ was the mother of Martha Tackett, and they are Elvis' maternal ancestors. Elvis believed in symbolism and the six pointed star is the Star of Creation in Christian tradition. Elvis people were a mix of Methodist, Pentecostal and Baptist.

I can’t imagine anybody hitting their head on purpose for any reason😳come on Marty, that’s just ridiculous to inflict a serious injury on yourself to avoid doing something you don’t want to do. I don’t think Elvis was that crazy. Great interview from Marty, very forthright. Elvis may have felt cornered to marry Priscilla, but I do believe he loved her very much, despite what some people say, he wouldn’t of kept her around all those years if he didn’t want her. I thinks some of Elvis’s boys were jealous of the hold Priscilla had on Elvis and she also resented some of them, who can blame her, no wife wants a bunch of guys hanging around her house constantly, for years on end. Just goes to show Elvis’s level of immaturity to always insist on having all these guys around, and he had been, somewhat babied by his precious mother, growing up. His fame came so early, he never really grew up. He became much more reclusive in the mid 70’s and didn’t want too many guys around anymore, due to his increasing drug dependency, other health problems and general disenchantment with a lot of the guys, the demands of Elvis’s lifestyle had taken a toll on everyone by this stage. RIP ELVIS, always loved him and RIP Memphis Mafia, there are so few members left of Elvis’ s entourage sadly.

No way anyone knows how Elvis felt about these women. She was the mother of his child. That's a bond for Elvis. He was cheating and Priz was cheating. She moved in with her lover for 4 years..dragging Lisa along.

After all these years the truth comes out . Always knew there was a reason he married Pricilla. ( Nothing wrong with her but knew he wasn't ready ...)

So many people, so many opinions, so many versions of things that happened. I think that a lot of the people around Elvis have passed away. I've been a fan for so long that all the versions don't bother me, except to be sad for Elvis, that his life was so complicated.

Marty is right. He should have told Pricilla's father exactly what Marty said. And her father was a military father? What's that all about.. Elvis should never have married her. And thank you Marty for calling out that schmuck col.parker. That piece of **** .. Elvis was to loyal to that Parker. Once Elvis and Parker became wealthy and that was in the late 50's, Elvis should have given him no more than 15%..And Esposito was another piece of ****..Have to call them out. I've heard from the Memphis guys and the musicians like John Wilkinson and James Burton. If it walks like a duck etc.. Thank you Marty!! RIP Marty Lacker ( alav ha-shalom)

I don't trust nobody with any word that comes out of their mouth. It's easy to talk about somebody who is no longer around. It's easier to make up stories. At the end, the term "mafia" suits them perfectly. They were a bunch of nobodies who lived off of Elvis. Everytime I hear one of his "friends" talk, I get sick and frustrated and feel really bad for Elvis. What did he do to deserve those people!?

Boy, do I agree, some of the stuff said doesn't sound right. They seem to bring up stuff that isn't very nice and talk bad about Elvis who is not here to defend himself. I think I am going to block these interviews, after listening to the first one something was off and it smelled rotten.

They were Elvis friends Elvis wasn't stupid he needed these guys around him to do things for him. Elvis could not just go out and buy a ham sandwich without being mobed so he would send one of the guys. These guys would have taken a bullet for Elvis.

Was this interview published before? I am glad to hear that M. Jenkins' statement that Elvis cried because he didn't want to get married has now been confirmed for the 3rd time. And i believe that Marty Lacker said the truth. To me he sounds like one of the very few true Elvis friends. I always had the feeling that Priscilla loved to tell lies just as Joe Esposito and some of the other guys.

Elvis even designed a special headstone for his mother with the Jewish star of David when she passed. Vernon put it in the attic. It wasn't put in the meditation garden until 2 years ago. I know that. Probably really hurt Elvis and might've been part of the strain between Elvis and Vernon.

That would have not hurt Elvis's career. I don't think he knew how great he was. He really didn't need the circus side show of a manager either.

"And that wedding thing, that wedding thing ...I had nothing to do with that. That was railroaded through. | didn't even know who was there, we were in side that little room about the size of a bathroom with a supreme court justice. It was in there and over and done with so quick I didn't even realize that I was married." Elvis taped by Red West, 1976

That sounds childish for the 25 people to not be able to be at the wedding. I don't like Joe Esposito's antics.
