Elvis really excelled at singing the blues...really would have loved a 1970's blues album.

Sounds better then the FTD you uploaded 10+ years ago 😮
@BruceEllis1964 Жыл бұрын
The FTD of this song I did about 10 years ago was from 1972 if I'm not mistaken. Thank you for your comment it's much appreciated.

You're corrected the one from 10 years ago is from the same date as this one, only it's from the midnight show.

his voice sounds speeded up, but it isn't...listen to his 1956 original of this song and he sings it in the same high voice octave....i was a bit surprised when i heard him sing it in 1974 that he could still hit the high notes at almost 40 that he was hitting at 20

James Burton's boring guitar noodling here is about 10% as good as Scotty Moore's subtle and brilliant solo on the original 1956 recording...EP sounds close to the original in his vocal range, but he paces the song by rushing through it Vegas-style, with none of the nuance he put into the 1956 recording...sadly, this is a throw-away live performance..... find the youtube "1956 Elvis My Baby Left Me" original....it was recorded at EP's very first RCA Victor recording session,,,,EP wished to see if he could duplicate his "Sun Records" style in the RCA studios....he succeeded

Burton's guitar is outstanding on this recording.

@@Marakesh7 listen to Scotty's sometime...if Scotty had not declined EP's request to lead the Vegas band in 1969, HE would have been playing lead here...but none of EP's 1954 to 1968 band wanted to be in Vegas for a month and go back "on the road"...Scotty and DJ and the Jordanaires all said to E.P. "thanks, but no thanks."....EP said to Scotty "Who will be my band? You have always been the leader. What will i do?" Scotty said "Remember Ricky Nelson's old guitarist? James Burton. I'll give him a call and see if he can put together a band for you.",,,,the rest is history

@@essessessesq I've always loved the TCB band. To me they were a better fit for Elvis in the 70's as Scotty, DJ and Bill were in the 50's We all have our favs and that's what makes the world go around.
@essessessesq Жыл бұрын
@@BruceEllis1964 the TCB band might have been new to you, but they went back to the same era as EP's original band...James Burton, for example, was the guitar player on the 1957 hit "Suzie Q" and in the 1950s and 60s he was guitarist for Ricky Nelson and appeared on The Nelson's TV show every week in Rick's band..as for J. D. Sumner, EP as a kid idolized his singing and Sumner was good pals with EP's longtime vocal group the Jordanaires....finally, Scotty and DJ Fontana and the Jordanaires were NOT just "in the 1950s"...they played at every EP recording session up until 1968...they were with EP 14 years, much longer than the TCB band was with EP...and EP pleaded with Scotty and DJ and the Jords to go to Vegas with him in 1969..he told Scotty "You have always been with me, man. What will I do without al of you?"they all said "thanks, but no thanks." they did not care to go back "on the road" and they all had more "session work making records in Nashville than they could handle...So Scotty told EP "I'll give James Burton a call. He can put a band together for you." And the rest is history
