Am I the only one that noticed you began typing "Padre" then stopped for a few seconds at "Pa"? I don't know why but that made me giggle 😄 I mean *technically* the two words mean the same thing... that being Father. Okay so my own humble interpretation on this one verse by verse (I've had two Andes mint chocolate chip chocolate cookies- if that makes sense lol- so maybe it's the sugar effect...) Verse 1: The day that we wed You blessed us and said May heaven bestow you grace There in that holy place We shared our first embrace My interpretation: He is singing to the Padre so he is saying that after the Padre wed him & his bride he told the Padre "May heaven bestow your grace" and in the church he hugged the Padre (overcome with happiness and gratitude, probably). Verse 2: Our cottage was small but richer than all The palaces of the king All day the birds would sing Our hearts were filled with spring My interpretation: This is pretty straight forward. After being wed, though he and his new wife didn't have riches they were still bountiful, being filled with love for each other and happy together. They felt rich as royalty and their new life together full of promise as Spring after a hard winter. 1st Chorus: Padre, padre What happened to our love's so cruel Padre, oh padre In my grief I turn to you My interpretation: Used as a hint/ clue as to what the next verse is going to be about but still has the listener leaned in because now they are hooked into the story of the song. Verse 3: Then he came along And sang her his song And won her with honey lies He of the fiery eyes Now it's not her that cries My interpretation: "He of the fiery eyes" is to me an allusion to the Devil. We are talking about a man sleeping with another man's wife in this verse. We presented with an allusion to the Devil- fiery eyed and silver- tongued, tempting a wife away from her husband, leading her to sin through temptation of the flesh outside of her marriage bed (HUGE no- no by the way especially if you are religious). The line: "Now it's not her that cries," is followed by the 4th verse which I think is important for fuller context/ meaning. Verse 4: So I will pray The hours away And weary my heart has grown Wondering where love has flown Counting my beads alone My interpretation: The husband in the situation is willing to forgive and hold true to his marriage vows. He prays for more than just his marriage but for his heart to heal, for his wife to love him as she once did, counting his rosary beads alone in his hours of prayer and solitude. 2nd & final chorus: Padre, oh padre Please tell me how such things can be Padre, oh padre Pray for my love and me My interpretation: Again, pretty straight forward. The husband is asking Padre how could such things come to pass when two people love each other? How could this even be? Then the closing line: "Padre, pray for my love and me." The husband is asking the Padre not just to pray for their love and marriage to survive this but for both of their eternal souls. Which shows that the husband is truly selfless in his love for his wife. Overall this song feels like a man confessing to me to his priest, baring to him the hurt he is carrying, the concerns and fears he has, and too expressing he is searching in his prayers for Divine guidance. Again I *must* stress this is my own very humble interpretation. Also, fun fact: At his 1958 Army Brooklyn Terminal interview, Elvis named "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Padre" (the Toni Arden single) amongst some of his personal favorite songs. I think they remained so seeing as how Elvis recorded his own version of both and even performed one of them live in 1974 (a performance that which recently made the Top 25 Greatest Live Performances- or something like that.) I LOVE THIS REACTION 😍💖🔥😍💖🔥😍💖🔥😍💖🔥 YOUR APPRECIATION FOR ELVIS'S VOCAL GYMNASTICS ON THIS ONE IS CHEF'S 💋👌 TRIPLE BANGER REACTION TOTALLY SEPH 🔥💣💥🔥💣💥🔥💣💥🔥💣💥 THANKS FOR SHARING 💐 Also: Extra info on this song & recording session will be in a separate comment 😀👍 TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

The word 'padre' means a priest of the Roman Catholic Church. This i one of his finest songs. There is a video of the song : Elvis 'Padre' Long Version. It's 4:39 long. It features Flamingo dancers and it's wonderful. The actual song is not that long, but the effect of the dancers adds to the impact of the song.

I've noticed you listened to my frustration, now we are back in Banger Central Station haha. This one is a hidden gem and an all-time favorite of mine. Music, lyrics, song come together in perfect harmony. I love Elvis voice in this, it really gets a chance to shine in all it's power and glory. Padre means Priest in Spanish. Also the lyrics says "counting my beads alone". Great reaction with goosebumps. S rank is the lowest I can go. The ending reminds me of another of my all-time favorites Surrender, gives me the chills every time.

3rd comment: "Padre Don José" is a French-language song written by Jacques Larue and Alain Romans, originally released in 1956 by Gloria Lasso. In 1957, Paul Francis Webster wrote English lyrics for the song, titled "Padre". The following year, it was released as a single by Toni Arden. Her version peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sold over million copies in the United States. Marty Robbins reached number 5 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart with his version of "Padre" in 1970. At his Brooklyn Army Terminal press conference in 1958, Elvis Presley named two songs as favorites at the time, "You'll Never Walk Alone" and recent hit single "Padre" by Toni Arden. He later recorded a cover of Arden's hit which was included on his 1973 album Elvis. Alain Romans info: Alain Romans (1905, Poland - 1988) was a French jazz composer. He studied in Leipzig, Berlin, and Paris. His teachers included Vincent d'Indy. He later worked with Josephine Baker and Django Reinhardt. Romans wrote music for 12 films. The most famous of them are the films of comedian Jacques Tati, including Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (1953), with the theme song "Quel temps fait-il a Paris?", and Mon Oncle (1959). Gloria Lasso info: Rosa Vicenta Montserrat Coscolín Figueras (28 October 1922 - 4 December 2005) known professionally as Gloria Lasso was a Spanish-born canción melódica singer, long based in France. In the 1950s, she was one of the major competitors to Dalida. Born in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona) in Catalonia, Spain, she achieved a degree of fame and success in the 1950s and 1960s, with songs such as Amour, castagnettes et tango (1955), Etranger au paradis (1956, a French version of Stranger in paradise by Tony Bennett), Buenas noches mi amor (1957) and Bon voyage (1958). Eventually superseded by Dalida, she moved to Mexico, but attempted a comeback to France in 1985 performing at the Paris Olympia. She was reportedly married six times.[1] She died from a myocardial infarction, aged 83, at her Cuernavaca, Mexico home. And this is it for this one Seph & everyone! *Fingers crossed this goes through*

He says "counting my beads alone" -- i.e. shorthand for praying with Rosary beads -- not "counting my beats". He is addressing a Catholic priest, i.e. the "padre", in this song. It helps to have some Catholic references / lingo to get the lyrics of this song on the first try 😄. (P.S. Elvis of course was not Catholic, but he sang a couple of Catholic-themed songs; his "Miracle of the Rosary" is the most famous.). --Marie

Padre means Father. In this song, with "Padre" he is addressing a priest. "I`m counting my beads alone" means he is praying alone because the woman he loves left him for another. As I understand it, he means the beads of his rosemary. This is not a gospel song.

Yes. Seph did mention an accident and that is why he had been out of commission so to speak for I think 2 or 3 days. Good catch! It never occurred to me. Wow your observant. I do hope Seph has a speedy recovery. As for the tousling of hair at 0:05 YES! I'm telling you I think the messy- tousled hair look is the way to go for Seph. He looks so good with his hair mussed. Even though I'm a woman I'm just a tad jealous he can pull that off. I STRUGGLE EVERY DAMN DAY WITH MY HAIR 😭😭😭 The messy bun look is very "in" right now. I can't get my hair to cooperate with me for sh*t. It's like... slippery? I have to use the heavy duty giant bobby pins to stick and pin it in place. Just to explain why and how I struggle to put my hair in stylish updos. (Without using hair spray. Really not a fan of that stuff.)

@@sammy_the_uncool2702 Well you can add one more item to the list of things your mother and I share. I too have very curly, unmanageable hair. But you'd never know it now! If my hair was Seph's current length, it would look like a total rat's nest. And like with your mother, add humidity to the mix and it turns into a matted hair shell. And on top of that, my beard is pretty rough and wiry and I have little hair on my chest and tummy. Unlike Seph, I lost the genetic lottery, big time. @@balovett A matter hair shell! Oh no! Genetics is something else. My Dad had like wavy hair that when it went grey, it was different shades of grey and silver (his beard was the same). And he had dark olive skin year round. He had a perpetual year long tan (haha). I remember one time a lady teacher of mine was waiting with me for my Dad to pick me up (Mom couldn't make it and called the school ahead of time to let them know). So my Dad you know was dressed like a total Dad that just done doing some housework project (he had a whole set up in the basement, table saw and everything, he liked to "putter" I guess you could say- he built me a toy chest- he made it look like a barn, really fun and creative- when I was a little and a bookshelf when I got older). So he was dressed in socks and hid favorite shoe- a slip on type of sandal for guys- and sweatpants and a plaid shirt over a faded Pittsburgh Steelers t- shirt and a NY Giants baseball cap on his head. Reeeaaallll Fabio right there, let me tell you. (I'm being sarcastic.) So my Dad comes walking up and I wave. The teacher meanwhile has her mouth open and asks me in this breathless voice, "THAT'S your Dad?" I simply give her a nonchalant, "Yeah. That's him." Meanwhile I'm thinking he could have at least wore a t- shirt that matched the blue and red baseball cap, the red plaid shirt, and the navy blue sweatpants. But nooo.... As usual Dad had to represent his two home team football teams (Dad was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa, but moved to the NY/ NJ area since then.) I never saw my Dad as good- looking. He was just Dad. But I had female teachers all just kind of at a momentary loss for words as soon as they laid eyes on him. Another time I went clothes shopping with my Dad to help him pick out a suit that he could wear at the funeral of one of the guys he used to work with. (My Dad WAS NOT a suit guy. He hated them.) So since Dad hated ties I suggested he try out turtlenecks. He ended up picking out this really nice dark grey suit with a really nice charcoal grey turtleneck. I thought he looked great. Dad's response looking at himself in the full length mirror: "I look like... a casino pit boss." To him that was not a good look. The way he said it was everything. I almost laughed out loud. But I managed not to.
