Elvis Presley - Steamroller Blues (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973)
• Elvis Presley - Steamr...
Chorus:
Well, I'm going away, baby
And I won't be back to fall
Well, I'm going away baby
And I won't be back to fall
And if I find me a good girl
I won't, I won't be back at all
Lyrics
I'm a steamroller baby
I'm 'bout to roll all over you
I'm a steamroller baby
I'm 'bout to roll all over you
I'm gonna inject your soul
With some sweet rock 'n' roll
I'm a cement mixer
A churning urn of burning funk
I'm a cement mixer
A churning urn of burning funk
I'm a demolition derby
A hefty hunk, steaming junk
I'm a steamroller baby
I'm 'bout to roll all over you
I'm a steamroller baby
I'm 'bout to roll all over you
I'm gonna inject your soul
With some sweet rock 'n' roll
And shoot you full of rhythm and blues
I'm a napalm bomb
Guaranteed to blow your mind
I'm a napalm bomb
Guaranteed to blow your mind
If I can't have your love now baby
There won't be nothing left behind

Elvis always auditioned and picked his band, back-up singers and orchestra leaders. He had total control of the whole production of his performances. He was always in touch with everything going on. It was his stage and he conducted it brilliantly. He always produced his recordings, too and gave Sam Phillips and Sun Records credit for teaching him production. Elvis was a perfectionist about his music. Awesome man!!💖💖💖 Thanks for doing more Elvis. Never enough for his fans.🥰

Elvis always picked his own band and singers. He was even doing this when he first exploded at the age of 20 in 1955. And for the most part he did all of the arranging as well, and while he didn't write stuff, he was a brilliant brilliant arranger, which I don't think gets mentioned enough.

When Elvis did the '68 Special he worked with an orchestra for the first time. He loved the result so much he added one for his 70s shows along with a very tight rock band anchored by Rock n Roll Hall of Fame guitarist James Burton. Presley added a soul group, the Sweet Inspirations, to his male singers for a sound that was different from what he'd had ever before. The Colonel thought he was spending too much money on personnel but Elvis knew what type of sound he wanted to create.

Elvis chose his musicians and his backing singers himself and they stayed with him They always said they had to watch him like a hawk to react to his directions, he was known for ad libbing and being spontaneous without notice. He’d flex his hands and arms to conduct the music and always finish the songs with big flourishes. During his concerts he would introduce his band and singers and often have them play or sing solo whilst he just listened and watched in appreciation of their own skills. So glad to see Elvis still making people stop and stare. Thanks for bringing him back for the new generations to see what all the fuss was about. 🙏👌💕🕺

Every masterful musician that you see on stage was picked by Elvis. Started with James Burton, onto Jerry Scheff, Ronnie Tutt, Glenn Hardin, John Wilkinson etc. The backup singers area whole other chapter. I'll tell you if you want. Thnx for a great reaction.

Elvis never disappoints. The Colonel ran the business and Elvis ran the music including what he recorded and who made up his road band. He started with James Burton on lead guitar who was from Ricky Nelson’s band when he was a teen heartthrob. Ronnie Tutt on drums. Jerry Scheff on Fender Bass. Back up singers The Sweet Inspirations, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, and Kathy Westmoreland. Collectively they were known as the TCB band for Taking Care of Business. There were other musicians and a full orchestra that were part of the traveling road show.

Yes, Elvis did audition his band He said in his 1972 45 min Interview -- He went through hundreds for the band.. but Not James Burton -- Elvis asked Who was the best guitarist Everyone said Glenn Campbell and Elvis said Well, He's Out LOLLL Then James auditioned right away!!! And He said He was lucky because most all of them knew his Music.... Then He talked about how the shows were set up everyone had their part -- Costumes - Makeup - Stage Sound - Lighting etc VERY Wonderful Interview -- He talked about making Movies and How He could not be paid all the money in the world to ever do it again --- He said He was so Stressed He had Fever / Stomach Aches / Could not sleep - He said He could read a script 4 pages in and know it was the same Movie Different Name and 12 Mediocre Songs.... Not even close to his standards but He said I did it ... "It was a Job." Talks about so much and He gets Fired UP about making the movies the rest of the time He is so chill

A fun little story... Rhythm guitar player John Wilkerson from Springfield. The first time he met Elvis was in 1956 when Elvis came through Springfield Missouri at The Shrine Mosque. John was only around 12 to 14 years at the time and he rode his bike to the Shrine to see if he could meet Elvis before the show, because his parents didn't allow him to go to the concert. He snuck in the backstage area and he came across Elvis sitting in a room all by himself. They had some small talk and then Elvis asked him if he wanted to ask him any questions or tell him anything... And John told him well the only thing I can tell you is you can't play the guitar worth a damn! Elvis cracked up it asked him if he could play better and John asked him for his guitar and he played him a song or two. John Wilkerson was part of a family bluegrass band and was very good. After he was done, Elvis told him that he plays very good and maybe one day he could play for him. Years go by and as Elvis is putting together the TCB band in 1968 he called John Wilkerson. And John worsen actually hung up on him when he called because he did not believe it was Elvis. Elvis called back and told him not to hang up on him again and he gave him the job!
