Elvis Presley - You Gave Me A Mountain (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973)
• Elvis Presley - You Ga...
Elvis Presley made television and entertainment history with his Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii concert, performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena on January 14, 1973. It was beamed live via Globecam Satellite to various countries, on a delayed basis to approximately thirty European countries and it first aired in America that April 4th on NBC in edited form. The American broadcast version included four "insert" songs that were shot just after the concert. In all, the concert was seen in over forty countries by close to 1.5 billion people, a global ratings smash. Never before had one performer held the world's attention in such a way. Aloha from Hawaii presents Elvis Presley at the pinnacle of his superstardom, giving one of the most outstanding concert performances of his career.
Lyrics:
Born in the heat of the desert
My mother died givin' me life
Deprived of the love of a father
Blamed for the loss of his wife
You know Lord I've been in a prison
For something that I've never done
It's been one hill after another
And I've climbed them all one by one
Oh but this time Lord you gave me a mountain,
A mountain you know I may never climb
It isn't just a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time
My woman got tired of the heartaches
Tired of the grief and the strife,
So tired of working for nothing
Just tired of being my wife
She took my one ray of sunshine
She took my pride and my joy
She took my reason for living
She took my small baby boy
Yeah but this time Lord you gave me a mountain,
A mountain I may never climb
It isn't a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time
Yeah Lord, You gave me a mountain
Don't you know
You gave me a mountain this time

The Beatles had the same wish as the two of you when they came to America. A bunch of celebrities the likes of Sinatra wanted to meet them but there was only one person in this country they wanted to meet: Elvis. When they finally did, they were so star struck that they simply looked at him without saying a word and eventually Elvis said, "Well, if you guys don't wanna talk, I might as well go back to bed." This broke the ice plus the fact that Elvis started playing around with his bass guitar leading to a jam session. Oh, can you just imagine?! Also, if you didn't know, Elvis was John Lennon's hero.

When I first became an Elvis fan back in 1971 I saw the documentary film 'Elvis That's the Way It Is' and I could tell right away that this man had music flowing through his veins from his head to his toes. He said right from the beginning, when he was getting backlash from gyrating on TV, that if he couldn't move he couldn't sing. He just feels the lyrics and is THE BEST interpreter of songs you'll ever hear/see ❤

I love how Elvis directs his orchestra and singers. So much truth in this song for Elvis. His twin brother died at birth, his father was in prison, his wife did leave him and took his daughter. He truly could make his audience feel his pain! God bless Elvis forever!❤

@@lisacook9482 Yes she was! With his karate instructor, Mike Stone. People piss me off when they try to find any little thing to tarnish EP’s image and memory. Priscilla was 14 when they met in Germany in 1959. She moved to Graceland in 1963 while still a teenager, they married in 1967, had Lisa Marie in 1968, and divorced in 1973. That’s a LOT for a very young girl to go through in a relatively short period of time. EP was gone a lot and because of his stardom she lived a very reclusive life. There were MANY reasons why the divorced … it wasn’t simply because EP was a “serial cheater.”

Definitely the G. O.A.T. and sadly “gone too soon” or “way before their time” unfortunately, just like many others but, he owned the stage and the audience, especially, the ladies. It must have been difficult staying loyal to your beliefs and values in a dog eat dog environment, of the music industry’s where most are “chasing the bag”. The movie is definitely worth seeing if you haven’t already. Enjoy your day and take care

If you look into it a little you will find that Elvis had met with a little girl and her Mother, the little girl loved Elvis, and wanted to meet him before she died of cancer. She and her Mother did meet with Elvis, and He promised he would sing a song for her once the the concert got started. This was the song He performed, and there is a video of this meeting here on KZbin, but I no longer remember the title.

I have to say that I love watching you both doing reactions to this Iconic Superhuman Man. I remember when this was aired on TV. I was just a little girl but I remember my parents letting me watch it from start to finish. It was aired all around the world live, if I remember correctly. I would have loved to have had the blessing to see him live. I have to be honest that whenever he sings some of these super strong powerful ballads I cry. To see his emotion and hear it is overwhelming to me. Very sad to see what fame did to him though. I cannot imagine not being able to walk out your door of your home without being watched. I dont believe in the stories that he faked his own death, but I definitely could never blame him if he did. So now he is happy and not in pain mentally or physically and he has his precious daughter with him once again but both taken far too young.🥺💔💔🙏🙏

Hi T & S, now that you've fallen in love with his voice, I'm hoping we can get you to react to some of his movies?? Maybe Matt can back me up on this, I'm sure he's seen them all also - the storylines were light it and it was a great showplace for his music. There are so many to choose from, so I'll start with a personal fav, G.I. Blues. Of course there is a beautiful leading lady and in this one it's Juilette Prowse. But if you're going for beautiful scenery it has to be Blue Hawaii. Hope you'll consider this! Enjoy!!

The Ramp that almost wasn't built: Producer/director Marty Pasetta told Parker he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no; Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to (Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis); Parker said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Paseta told Elvis he wanted him to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Imagine how different that concert would have been if Elvis didn't have the option to get in close contact w-his audience. HE would have been just as spectacular, but without the ramp the concert would have had a very different feel.
