How freaking great is that live performance (and the rehearsal of course). That bit when he shivers for that low note is brilliant. And like you say, Rory, when the song kicks into gear Elvis' voice just goes to another level. And I love that little bit of swagger at the end too. Fantastic reaction man. I think this man is/was the greatest vocalist of all time. Period. Any era. Any genre.

The low bass was JD Sumner. The amazing thing is that JD was a big time gospel star in the religious music world and toured the south. He was in many quartets. Elvis was 15 when he would go to all night singing offs of gospel groups. He would sit front row and watch JD. One time JD saw him in town and said" Hey son where have you been"? Elvis said I don't have the money to get in. JD said from now on you come to the back door and tell them JD lets you come. Years later Elvis would hire JD for his backup. Elvis loved JD like a brother. Thanks Rory

Who else but The King would sing Gospel in the middle of his show, to show reverence to The King of Kings? Only Elvis!!! Oh how I love this man! ♥️ Colleen

This is why he is the King. Singing rock, pop, ballads, country and gospel at his concerts. Unheard of then and now. He gives me goosebumps when he sings gospel. He first sang gospel on the Ed Sullivan show, Peace in the Valley. It's on KZbin. Awesome

The low note king was J.D. Sumner who was I believe once in the Guinness Book of Records for a time as the singer of the lowest note recorded, a great friend of Elvis and someone EP deeply admired.

It's always fun to watch your reactions to Elvis performances. Paraphrasing Sally Fields: "You get him, you really get him." The singing of gospel songs in concert was yet another way in which Elvis was different from other performers of his time (or now for that matter, aside from gospel singers.) Now, one could argue that Elvis could sing gospel songs during a rock/pop/country concert because he was Elvis so there was no risk to his popularity in his doing so. On the other hand, the fact is, Elvis Did sing gospel songs during his concerts and that in itself says a lot about how gospel music effected him. There are very few artists then or now who would perform a gospel number during one of their concerts...it's just not something that was done by others. Elvis was a religious man and he was more than fine with people knowing it.

this is elvis with jd & the stamps quartet his male backups & friends first video is them unwinding after rehearsal & second on stage together they were elvis' favorite gospel quartet & group elvis would go to their their shows as a teenager & had aspirations of being in a gospel quartet growing up then in late 1970 elvis needed a replacement quartet for his shows & asked jd to please come sing with him they were with elvis from 1971 till his death in 1977 elvis would often stop his shows and have them sing gospel to him on stage they would also spend the nights after shows in elvis' suite or homes singing gospel till the sun came up with him jd (the bass singer you were talking about) was elvis' idol & they had a very close bond it is believed that in 1977 before elvis died he was considering doing a purely gospel tour with jd & the stamps when elvis died it was discovered that in elvis' bedroom on his turntable was a jd & the stamps gospel album the last thing he was listening to thank you for doing this rory :)

Die with a smile, ele próprio faz o backing vocals Vision of lo e seu pai Lucinho na guitarra Tu és (You are) Obrigada pelo apoio e consideração.😇🥰😍❤️
