Saw this as a kid - said to myself "Holy crap - did he just skate to TECHNO music?!? This guy is AWESOME!" Ever since then, I paid much more attention to figure skating.

He leaned so far forward sometimes in his jumps when he landed. I wonder if they would have nailed him for that in COP but I think he still would have done very well.

This was risqué in terms of music choice back then in ‘94, even for a Short Program. However the minor change from a triple axle-triple toe, to the same as Urmanov’s triple-double toe is a non issue for the required elements vs Urmanov. Elvis has the better SP skate here than anyone, including Urmanovs. Stojko raises the roof off by exciting/energizing the crowd far better than Urmanov, has the better speed, transition flow of required elements, the better footwork, the much better spins, even better presentation-artistry overall than Alexei. Their jumps are equally solid so thats a mute point. Elvis had the better SP performance here easily. Unfortunately I think the regular classical music choice by Alexei was apparently approved of far more than the great energizing techno music that Elvis absolutely nailed. Just ask yourself one question... Could Urmanov done Stojko’s techno SP with comparative skill/speed/footwork/flow/spins etc? Cause Elvis could have done Urmanovs SP basically the same, comparatively speaking, with better speed/spins/flow etc... Elvis should have comfortably been in First place after this program, instead of second. Rewatching both of their SP programs only solidifys my position too. Biased judging in skating, and also towards Elvis’ past presentation mark history etc. Look who had the overall better career in skating and as a professional, I think Elvis got the last laugh.

Elvis's artistic scores were actually higher than normal here. I did love the program though so would have had it higher. I usually hate Elvis's skating and programs, his 94 programs were two of the only ones I ever liked and strangely the judges not so much, particularly the long. While future years I hated his programs and found him overscored often, particularly on presentation, but 94 underscored.

@mlc2005 ITA. I'll always respect his work as an athlete but that's about it.

Any respect I once had for Elvis is gone after the 2010 Olympics with he injected his (unsolicited) opinion regarding quads in the men's competition. That was just plain rude for a former skater to rain on someone else's glory. Plus, he was so terrified of every coming across as feminine that all his programs were to war or martial arts music, which to me was just ridiculous.

Grow up. Your a opinionated judgemental prick. How dare you attack my role model, a man that has had to put up with b.s. from people like you. Well you know what I've had enough. I'm standing up I won't be silent anymore. If you don't like him, get the hell off this channel. Bullies Like you aren't welcomed or appreciated here.

Oh you know what, stop complaining, there are greater things that you can whine like a baby about. Elvis is one of the most humble disciplined, gracious hardworking athlete. He's a man who god has used to transform my life. Back off and leave him alone
