Hi , I appreciate the efforts you've done for improving acquisitions of English especially for the foreigners . Signs and symbols in phonetics are so important because the problem facing student is transcription and the function of syllables and stresses in a word .

Surprised to find so many Bangladeshis in the comment section. Me and my friend are A level students (Bangladeshis also!) who need to learn phonetics, so we're practising with this video since it has all the phonetic symbols written down, though I can say with some confidence our pronunciations are already good enough :) This video's helping us perfect them , as well as learning phonetic symbols as academic work so thanks to this channel for the video!

The good lady teacher teaching english pronounciation in this video lecture is Alex Bellem. Alex has an undergraduate degree in Arabic and Turkish. She followed this with an MA in (Theoretical) Linguistics at University College London (UCL) and a PhD in Linguistics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) where she focused on Arabic phonology and phonetics. She's also a CELTA-qualified English language teacher and spent a few years teaching English as a Foreign Language. At the time these videos were made in early 2008 Alex was lecturing part-time in the Linguistics Department at SOAS and was working as a Pronunciation Linguist in the BBC's Pronunciation Unit.

@ JavierMattos. , If you're non-English Speaker and "wanna " no! and "you want to" is the correct way to say it in British English. "Wanna" is slang and it 's related to Am English though it has also being adopted in the UK as colloquial jargon. The BBC phonenitcs guide you posted is the actual standard for the correct (posh) upper class, business English. Not all English speak so clearly. In academic terms its the norm and standard, but there are many dialects in the British isles and it won''t be so clear to the listener. Thanks for posting. I am a northern guy so I pronounce differently. Just like Spanish, there are tens of variants and not one is more correct than the other, they are just have different origins.

I've just started to watch this video. Less than 15 minutes. I was born in Argentina, I guess you know about my country. The only thing I want to say right now, is that to me, it's clear the difference between /e and /i. I could never confuse the sound of the e with that of the i. Also, you should know that in Spanish we pronounce the name of the letter i the way you pronounce the name of the letter e.
