F-35A Lightning II Demo Major Kristin "Beo" Wolfe performs Love or Hate the F-35 is Awesome

Watch as Major Kristin "Beo" Wolfe performs the Air Combat Command F-35A Lightning II demonstration. Wolfe is the first USAF female pilot and we had to travel to Avation Nation 22 to watch her perform!!
This is the Sunday performance at Nellis Air base where we had a great time and will defo return.

First time I've noticed how much larger the F-22 is than the F35. Always thought it was the other way around. Makes sense now when considering the insane maneuverability the Raptor is capable of. Great video, well done! 👏🏼

Not to take anything away from Major Wolfe, but she is NOT the first female USAF fighter pilot. That honor goes to Brig Gen Jeannie Leavitt, who became the Air Force's first female fighter pilot in 1993. Other than that, great video.

The P51 had a top speed of 441 MPH. Flying mid 300s for all those aircraft is no problem. Cruise speed in the Mustang is mid 250

The in-flight reliability of engines today is such that having 2 would increase maintenance cost (because for each plane you have to do engine maintenance 2x). The acquisition cost of the weapon system would also increase as engines are typically at least around 25% of the cost of the vehicle (F-35A ~ $80M, F135 engine ~ $20M). The main reason today for having 2 engines is performance (thrust). Until the 1990s, a single engine didn't provide more than 22000lb of wet (afterburner) thrust given sensible fan diameter sizes so now we have the technological convergence of being able to provide more power in a more reliable package that reduces total cost of acquisition & operation. The F135 is currently the most powerful afterburning fighter engine in the world, being able to provide over 43000lb of wet thrust. The GE F414 is used in single engine configuration by the JAS 39 Gripen, which has a similar weight to the F-16.

She's a great pilot for sure. She's not the first female USAF pilot, they have been around since the 90's in the fighters (Jeannie M. Leavitt) for the USAF. She is the first solo demo female pilot.
