I couldn’t agree more about the politeness level. You worded it perfectly 😭 I tried learning Masri (Egyptian Arabic) and that’s exactly what it is 💀 If I want to tell someone to leave me alone, I don’t want to literally be saying something like, “God, please guide this person away” 😗

💀 that’s so funny?? Omfg Arabic appears to be so deeply rooted in Islam though, I wonder if there are exceptions to that.

@@elyssedavega Now Arabic is the language the Quran’s written in so I get where you’re coming from, but there’s a good number of Christian Arabs out there. It also really depends on the people and dialects, kind of like how you say “For God’s sake” in English, there’s the same exact expression in Arabic, it just depends on the way you prefer talking and your personality too🙌
@amirrichaun
@amirrichaun 2 жыл бұрын
@@your.favorite.detective25 That’s actually a really good point. Also, I began learning Arabic again 🙈 I found out that my family in New Jersey speaks Arabic and I want to connect with them. I can probably get past the politeness.

My second language was Esperanto. Thanks to this language, the world opened up to me: I started to correspond with foreigners, in the time when there was no internet, I traveled around Brazil and Europe without paying for accommodation and it gave me the pleasure of learning other languages.

I follow you because of your personality. I only speak 3 languages and the reasons I learnt them were and still are outside of my control. I had to leave my country and begin high school in Germany. I like following your content no specially because of the language thematic but because you seem like a genuinely interesting person with a sensible personality and a calm yet decisive way of thinking. You feel like a real human being and not a merely projection. I want to witness your journey, you inspire me. Thank you for taking us along the way.

Those politeness levels were the very reason why I couldn’t bring myself to learn Japanese for ages. Anyways, I eventually wanted to go and visit Japan and started learning the basics, and I liked the language so much I’m still learning it seven years on. Actually I still do find the politeness levels a bit irksome, doesn’t go well with my worldview, though the pragmatics are not really all that different to tu/vous in French or vos/usted in Spanish
