@@TraeSMR Not quite it. Hard to describe, but it's feeling empty, like there is a void or abyss. You're not happy, but you don't wanna die quite literally. Like you're just going through life without feeling much, kinda already dead inside, but your time is not there yet... so you just keep going. You keep going just because. Not because you have hope, you're just apathetic.

This song is so accurate. It is lively and vibe like what most depressed and anxious people are like on the outside, but when you really listen to the lyrics, it's actually quite sad like what these people really feel inside. Great song!

I've never had anything more relateable in my life than this song and I guess this feeling of just being...numb gets so like becomes a part of your life that you just don't think of it as depression or anxiety it just becomes your personality and the worst part can be that you're just numb on a daily basis and can't talk to your family bcz sometimes they think you're just an attention seeker and then you have no hope for yourself and just accept the fact that being NUMB is the best you can do for yourself bcz if not it would really hurt ( didn't mean to make this a long para but ... I guess that's how I feel)also I've never shared this much with anyone so 😅😅

Fantastic song! I’m bipolar 2 and I have about 10 years of experience with meds. That emotion sounds a lot like euthymia, which I experience pretty often. It’s not good, it’s not bad. It could be considered zen if not for the disconcerting fact that you are know you should not be in a zen state. For instance, I reached a huge career achievement, and lost two of my dogs to cancer in 2021; but I was completely numb for all three events. Every so often the emotions would burst through; but, they left just as quickly as they came. Antidepressants are quickly prescribed because they normally take 6 or more weeks to start seeing the effects; they also are not chemically addictive for the most part. The thing is, and I did this too, most people only talk to their doctor when they are in a very dark place. Getting them in your system as quickly as possible is the goal. The problem is it takes time to figure out what blend works; it took me 4 years. Therapy is great, and has been instrumental for my mental health. The problem once again is therapy takes time. Time to find a therapist, the time to find the right therapist, the time to become comfortable with a therapist, the time to work through traumas or anxieties, the time to learn effective and healthy coping strategies, and the time to implement those strategies. Unfortunately, mental health doesn’t have a quick fix. So please, don’t wait until you are at your lowest, seek help. Also, consider therapy, regardless of the severity of your mental health; you’d be surprised how good it feels to meet even once every other month; it’s a great way to debrief and reset.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts behind each of the pieces of lyrics. I think because people now a days either feel depressed or because we've been able to get help with our emotions instead of just "getting over them", then this song and it's lyrics hits close to home for a lot of people. My brother shared with me this song and I'm glad that he did! I might not relate to exactly the same emotional depth as him, but I can relate in my own way. I went into the rabbit hole of ahdh materials recently and eventually somehow started reading a book on postpartum depression. And they had this check list that you should go through to see if you need to talk to your psychiatrist. (Basically there are points for each answer from 0-4) There was this one question about suicidal thoughts and you had to choose one of the options. There was a range of answers but one that struck me as weird (cause this one was 1 point) and it went something like: "I though about dying or disappearing, pondered on different ways to die but I would never actually do anything" And I was very surprised cause I thought everyone would think about dying and like had a plan "just in case". Is that not the case?

As someone with persistent depressive disorder, AKA high functioning depression, this song describes EXACTLY how I feel like every single day. The line “Like you’re not really happy but you don’t want to die” captures the whole essence of it. I’m successful and content, but if you ask me if I’m happy, I’m really not. Em Beihold is a brilliant songwriter and everyone should check out her other songs. Groundhog Day, City of Angels, and Too Precious are also excellent songs.

It's the first song I've found that has put how I've felt for most of my life. I've had to stop putting happiness on a pedestal to achieve because wanting it is what pushes it away in my opinion. I can't consistently reproduce it so I can't make it a goal.
